HUMAN EVENTS EDITORIAL, Aug 11, 2006

EXCERPT Rudy Giuliani was never a conservative of any kind. As Kate O’Beirne pointed out in a recent National Review analysis, Giuliani was endorsed for mayor in 1989 by the Liberal Party, which said of him: “He agreed with the Liberal Party’s views on affirmative action, gay rights, gun control, school prayer, and tuition tax credits.”

In 1992, O’Beirne reports, Giuliani said Nelson Rockefeller represented “a tradition in the Republican Party I’ve worked to rekindle—the Rockefeller, Javits, Lefkowitz tradition.”

The Republican Party is in trouble today not because it has drifted away from Rockefeller Republicanism, but because it is drifting back toward it.

The conservative vision is comprehensive. It believes in limited government, traditional values, and a foreign policy that looks at our national interests with cold, clear eyes and works aggressively to defend them. Since the Republican Party unambiguously embraced this vision with the election of Ronald Reagan as President in 1980 it has lost only one presidential election, and has become the majority party in Congress.

The one presidential election that was lost—by the senior President Bush—came after Bush had turned his back on core conservative values. In recent years, many Republicans have begun again to betray these values. That is why the GOP congressional majority is vulnerable in this November’s election.

The job of conservatives between now and then, and through the next election cycle, will be to take our party back----not to hand it over to Rudy Giuliani (or to Joe Lieberman).

On your part maybe.

Stirring up crap for no good reason.

You won, he lost. People like me that did initially support him have accepted defeat and have been humble in doing so.

The guy gave one of the best speeches at the convention, he helped rally the troops and you want to stick in a knife. Absurd.

On my part? You obviously misread my post. I think this is idiotic in the extreme to post this now.

When Guiliani laughed at Paul for saying government should respect limits on governmental power - that was the moment I wanted Rudy defeated so soundly he would never run again.

Now, to the extent Rudy is helpful in preventing Obama from winning, that’s great.

We handed it over to a liberal coddling, rinoistic, back stabbing, "maverick" whose past actions shun converatives and conservative values! Now, with Palin on board we have at least a chance to effect change in the Presidential canidate.

There is no doubt conservatives have to wrest control from the GOP/RNC moderates. Half a conservatvie is no conservative! McCain hit a grand slam with Palin, but it's only going to work for him if he governs like her!

Liz, I have to agree, reposting this thread does nothing to help us defeat Obama-Biden, if anything it gives the 'Rats campaign fodder for use in the general election.

I think you should tell the mods to take the thread down.

Let’s here from Liz... before y’all go off the deep end with criticism. One point she might be making is that we don’t want Rudy for Attorney General no matter how well he spoke at the convention.

“This is the start of a series of threads that will be used to expose the truth about Rudy Giuliani in his own words and deeds.”

I’m confused. I didn’t know he’s running for office against Obama. Please explain.

Now if your thread read like this, it might be worth our energy:

“This is the start of a series of threads that will be used to expose the truth about Barack Hussein Obama in his own words and deeds.”

Dig this up so he won’t hold a cabinet position when McCain/Palin win? He sure helped the other night at the convention - he is far from perfect but aren’t we all?
