A Final Weekend Push for Primary Candidates (NY)

Candidates for Congress and the Legislature made a final push for votes on Sunday before Tuesday’s primary elections throughout the city and the state.

In New York City, the most prominent of the hotly contested primaries are for Congress in a district in central Brooklyn and in another that includes all of Staten Island and part of Brooklyn. There are also competitive primaries throughout the state, notably in the Buffalo area.

In the Staten Island Congressional district, the 13th, there are spirited races in both the Republican and Democratic primaries. The winners will compete in November for the Congressional seat now held by Representative Vito J. Fossella, a Republican who is not seeking re-election.

In May, Mr. Fossella was charged with drunken driving in a suburb of Washington. Soon afterward, he acknowledged that he had fathered a daughter in an extramarital affair and announced later that month that he would not seek re-election this year, after serving five full terms and part of a sixth.

In the district’s Republican primary, former Assemblyman Robert A. Straniere is competing for the nomination against Dr. Jamshad I. Wyne, the finance chairman for the Staten Island Republican Party. The race between the two Republicans has become rancorous, with Dr. Wyne, a cardiologist born in Pakistan, accusing Mr. Straniere of anti-immigrant bias and the former assemblyman accusing his rival of ethical lapses.

On the Democratic side, City Councilman Michael E. McMahon is running against Stephen A. Harrison, a Brooklyn lawyer who ran for the Congressional seat two years ago. The Democratic candidates, once friends, have sparred forcefully during the race.

In Brooklyn, a longtime incumbent, Representative Edolphus Towns, is facing another Democratic challenge this year from Kevin Powell, a writer and political activist who appeared on the first season of “The Real World” on MTV...

Whatever you do this Tuesday, if you live in, or know someone who lives in the 99th AD in NY, please get out the vote for Greg Ball.

Greg is a pro 2A / tax cutting / anti-corruption “maverick” that the Putnam county political machine is trying to destroy. He has been the target of a smear campaign the likes of which are unprecedented.

I think his mane is Greer.

I am heading out to put up campaign signs for a few friends.
It would be so nice to see a couple of my friends win this year.
