McCain agrees with Bush 90% of the time (vanity)

Posted on 09/09/2008 12:26:19 PM PDT by ProudFossil

How do the Democrats come up with the statement that McCain votes 90% of the time with President Bush? President Bush does not vote so what do the Democrats base this figure on?

Besides the fact that Bush doesn’t vote on legislative issues, they’re ignoring the fact that McCain has been a US Senator for 22 years. Bush has been president for 7+ years. Do they really want to make the argument that only the last 8 years of McCain’s voting record counts? They need to examine all 22 years and then get back to everyone on that 90% statistic. And how many senators vote against their own party more than 10% of the time? I’d like to see that statistic.

That’s more than I agree with Bush. I wonder if Dems would prefer me?

Gov Patterson of NY objects and says you are speaking in racial coding.

I too have seen these ads from Obama (there are two running currently in Northern Wisconsin, and I’ve been wondering the same thing. They have a clip they run of McCain saying it. My question is — “On what ISSUE”.

It is interesting that the Democrats block all oil and gas drilling in the Continental U.S. [lower 48, ANWAR & offshore], block any new oil refineries, clean-coal power plants, producing oil shale & oil sands fields, block new-generation nuclear plants...and on and on... then blame Bush for high energy prices and the resulting unemployment that high fuel / energy costs brings.

I thought the Libturd-Democraps were in the Majority! Why didn't they do something over Bush's head, dare him to veto it, the take all the credit for energy independence, lower energy costs and energized economy?

A substantial portion of legislative votes are unanimous. National Nurse Appreciation Day, name the new post office in Olathe, Kansas, etc. Every Senator starts with a very strong percentage of “agreeing with the President”. I’m still wishing someone would back all these votes out and see what the McCain-Bush alignment is. And the Obama-Bush alignment for that matter.

You could go through this database of Washington Post for each candidate and figure it out. I am not sure where you find Bush's position, assuming it is different than the GOP position though.

Obama does not reach across the aisle as he tries to portray, he votes with his party 97% of the time.

What Dems want is for McCain to throw President Bush under the bus for their own “validation”...and the dialogue seems to be working to some degree. McCain should not react to their script; he needs to remember that Bush was elected twice and still has many supporters despite what lefties want everyone to believe. I truly hope McCain handles this smartly and does not alienate voters who support President Bush, all while handing lefties what they want.

Obama agrees with 9% Pelosi/Reid about 92% of the time.

I think it may actually be how often McCain votes with Republican Party since even under veto overrides, the Party typically won’t buck the president’s wishes. Such votes can be found here: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/

These statistics are a bit bogus since numerous votes in Senate are under “unanimous consent” so the % is artificially inflated. If you look at the figures, most Senators are in the 90%+ range: indeed, both Obama and Biden vote with their party 96% of the time, which shows how “maverick” they are. For those interested in change, who wants to take a 4% chance that BHO will be brave enough to buck the Democratic party line??? His timid selection of Biden as VP shows how fearful he was of putting HRC on the ticket.

Not to change the subject ..... but to change the subject, a good book to read is Faith of My Fathers, by John McCain. I find myself much more enthused about him after reading this book. Both his father and his grandfather were Navy admirals, and John McCain was a true American hero while serving in the Navy. Obama is a kid with training wheels on his bike —— unfit to be president.

Yes, he did.

But I understand Mr. Obama votes the Democratic party line in the Senate 97% of the time.

Wow. Some unifier, ay?

Obama votes with the liberal Dem leaders on 97% of the votes.

McCain picks and chooses where he gives his votes, I’ll give him that and they are ususally on importatnt issues.

I’ve cussed him enough for not supporting Bush on some of them.

Fauxbama and Biden have voted with Bush nearly 50% each.. when using the same model the libs use for their 90% stat.. its crap line they repeat that’s meaningless.

Yes, I think McCain is doing the right thing by not getting dragged directly into a “I’m not Bush” argument. There are plenty of things that show he’s not, and the BDS people are not going to change their minds anyway. The argument makes Obama look shallow and whiny. Clearly, Obama thought it was his clincher argument, but it’s been largely de-fused, because even the Obama-leaning media admit that McCain and Palin both have records of reform. “But, but, but, you can’t....”, it’s just not presidential.
