Are they anything like “yobs” or football hooligans that are so prevelant in the UK?

The UK, such a classy place with a crime rate much worse than the US. Muslim areas where no English person can go. Not to mention much higher tax and gasoline rates.

I lived in the UK for years from the mid 1980s thru late 90s. the term Cowboy was indeed used as derogatory. Crooks, idiots and inepts were considered cowboys. A ‘cowboy’ company were crooks and any job that was not done properly was considered ‘cowboy’ work. Cowboys were given the same negative connotations as gypsy.

My daughter lives in the UK now and is married to a Brit. They say that the country is pretty divided on us. Those who have had contact with Americans like us. Those that hate us, have never had contact with Americans.

The press and political leaders are incredibly liberal. I think they are jealous of us because they have lost their identity and their Soverignty.

I would have to care what this clever little child thinks to be offended.

Rednecks DO rule the world -— because they work hard, actually produce useful things or services, take risks, are quite smart, help each other out (especially family), and have faith and belief in things greater than themselves.

That last bit is the hardest for elites to understand or grasp.

Recall Obama who defined “sin” as “some action against HIS ideals.” Um, no, Obama, “sin” is something against GOD’s ideals.

“Red Neck, White socks, and Blue Ribbon Beer”

The “Enlightened” just can’t understand how we could be so stupid.

It just warms my heart!

Meanwhile, Western Europe is dying because the political class and the media there have no “respect” for their own “red necks”, their own people from the “heartland” who still long for the dying traditions and dying traditional values of the “common” people in Europe.

Exactly true. I’ve lived in NYC, upstate NY, LA, SF, Chicago, Texas, Japan, France and Germany and some of the people in upstate NY are not what you would call the most sophisticated or tolerant people on the planet.

Most people that complain about the South have never been there.

He is either trying for self-effacing satire or fell off the turnip truck with his type-writer.

Strange indeed.

there is nothing wrong with rednecks. It offends me because...

It portrays everyone who is well educated a democrat but paints republicans as fat bellied, food frying, beer swilling, uneducated slobs.

Here is one good response, IMO, to the article’s definitions:

COUNTRY BOY CAN SURVIVE, Hank Williams, Jr.

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

“All this has become so deeply instilled as to now be reflexive. It represents many of the worst traits in American culture and a few of the best.

And that has every thinking person here in the US, except perhaps John McCain and Sarah Palin, worried.

Very worried.”

_______

Articles like this prove why we don’t like the Liberal Elites.

The Modern Redneck is a little more “sophisticated.” We have satellite TV and high-speed Internet.

Last week, we had our semi-regular “pitch night.” Just a bunch of hicks getting together to play cards and shoot the bull. The age ranges were from 25 to 75. Yeah, we chewed ‘backy and ate junk food. Eventually, the conversation turned to politics. There was only one Democrat in the bunch. He didn’t like Sarah Palin because she’s a woman.

In our group of dyed-in-the-wool rednecks, there were four business owners, including a real estate agency, an auction company and an advertising agency. One was a stock broker. We’re Republicans because we know strong moral virtues and personal responsibility are the foundations of our country.

We know the issues. We know what the Liberal elites say about us. We know they are dead wrong on everything.

Culture war? You bet. But today’s “rednecks” are informed AND armed. We’ll win.

Another possible contributing source of the term redneck comes from The West Virginia Coal Miners March or the Battle of Blair Mountain when coal miners wore red bandanas around their necks to identify themselves as seeking the opportunity to unionize.
