Gov. Sarah Palin is being asked by a local Republican activist to release more than 1,100 e-mails she withheld from a public records request, including 40 that were copied to her husband, Todd.
Palin had claimed executive privilege for documents copied to her husband, who is not a state employee, in responding to an open records request in June made by Andrée McLeod, an activist in Anchorage. The administrative appeal filed yesterday by McLeod's attorney, Donald C. Mitchell, argued that by copying Todd Palin on sensitive state correspondence, the governor and her aides shattered the privilege rightly afforded elected officials.
"She has allowed Todd Palin -- who has not been elected by the people of Alaska, who is not a state employee -- to entangle himself apparently as he sees fit in the operations of the executive branch of the state government," Mitchell said.
"From the case law, if government voluntarily opens up that internal decision-making to what I would call civilians, then that is waiver of that protection of the government policy decision-making process. That is what happened here, and it happened because Sarah Palin doesn't understand it," he said.
Todd Palin was frequently copied on e-mails relating to Alaska State Troopers and the union representing public safety employees, according to McLeod, who received four boxes of redacted e-mails in response to her request. At the time, both Sarah and Todd Palin were complaining to the state public safety commissioner about a disciplinary matter involving Sarah Palin's ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper.
Palin also routinely does government business from a Yahoo address, gov.sarah@yahoo.com, rather than her secure official state e-mail address, according to documents already made public.

If she copied her husband on government business emails, she did indeed screw up.
Well if that’s the standard everything in Clinton white house is open to the public. Hillary was involved in everything and not elected to anything at the time.
Yawn
if this is the best sh*t they can dig up. they have nothing on her.
It is boring isnt it.
Why the HELL aren't the McCain people executing the SAME kind of “witch hunt” on Biden and Obama???
This HARASSMENT of Palin has got to STOP. At this point it has exceeded any real effort to learn anything pertinent about her background and is simple harassment.
Clealry the Media is trying to Bork and Quayle her.
Why don't the Republicans demand Obama and Biden release all THEIR e-mails?
At this point it should be tit for tat with any further demands or inquiries about Palin, with respect to Obama and Biden.
By the way, this looks VERY bad for those “debates”. If the Mainstream Media is willing to stoop so low and be so OBVIOUSLY biased towards Palin in this respect, its obvious they will be doctoring their “debates” with Obama and McCain and Biden and Palin far worse than they ever did in the past with Bush II and his opponents.
In 1950s Texas...Lyndon Johnson would have had both Wooten and the other dude taken out. They would have been found dead of mysterious circumstances in their cars on a backroad or in a hotel room.
and Sarah is getting trashed for sending emails. Who cares. Who cares.
If Jesus/Moses/The Buddha was to run for office as a Republican, the Dems would manufacture dirt on him.
I doubt it was a screw up. I imagine it was her way of letting him know she’d be home late for dinner. Sort of, “Hi, I’m right in the middle of something.”
It sounds like they have a working relationship.
I’m also thinking there’s a spousal privilege...in other words, they talk about everything.
A potential president, she should not budge one bit on executive privilege.
That said, any politician who wants to save emails should download them to disc and put them in a secure location known only to them. Computers should then be cleaned and then recleaned.
Don’t put it in writing.
2. Todd Palin was ORDERED by the head of the Governors security detail, Special Agent Bob Cockrell, to discuss Trooper Wooten with Walt Monegan, as Wooten presented a credible threat to the Governors safety. Heres a direct quote from Special Agent Cockrell, who is now providing security for his sixth consecutive governor:
When made aware of the security concerns regarding a state trooper, I instructed the First Gentleman to contact the commissioner of Public Safety. It is standard protocol to ask every governor about any threats they perceive or have realized. I will not hesitate to set the record straight in answering these false allegations by former Commissioner Monegan.

wow. So this whole thing is dead in the water.
Palin should agree to do it, when Obama releases all his state senate records and his client list from his law firm days
It doesn’t matter if she forwarded her husband state business or not. She can seek the advise of anyone she wants
and one would think your spouse would definately be one you
would talk to about things.
If I was her I would delete them.
Post of the Day nomination
Exactly.
Soooooooo....what about those closed records that are still sitting locked up in the vault at the Clinton Presidential Library?
Co-president Hillary.
How about if Todd had a personal family life and death interest in the issue. As in this trooper had threatened Sarah's life, her father's life, and had abused Todd and Sarah's nephew (the trooper's step son) and Sarah's sister (the trooper's wife/ex-wife).
The enemedia have flooded Alaska and are digging for any dirt they can find and PAYING MONEY and have so far shown less interest in truth than dirt.
This is sooo going to blow up in their scummy little faces when people get the whole story. Sarah will be even more of a hero. The trick is to get the whole story out which GWB wouldn't have been too good at, but the McCain campaign seems to be VERY good at. Stay tuned.
Correspondence between a man and his wife are off limits... Every court in the country will agree.
Pardon me, every sensible court with no lunatic liberal legislating from the bench, will agree.
How do they know that out of 1100 e-mails, 40 of them were to her husband?
