Op-Ed Columnist
Shes Not Ready
By BOB HERBERT
While watching the Sarah Palin interview with Charlie Gibson Thursday night, and the coverage of the Palin phenomenon in general, Ive gotten the scary feeling, for the first time in my life, that dimwittedness is not just on the march in the U.S., but that it might actually prevail.
How is it that this woman could have been selected to be the vice presidential candidate on a major party ticket? How is it that so much of the mainstream media has dropped all pretense of seriousness to hop aboard the bandwagon and go along for the giddy ride?
For those who havent noticed, were electing a president and vice president, not selecting a winner on American Idol.
Ms. Palin may be a perfectly competent and reasonably intelligent woman (however troubling her views on evolution and global warming may be), but she is not ready to be vice president.

How is it, that anyone, I mean anyone, reads your columm! Wow. Such a vast detachment with reality. RIP, NYT.
(Rest In Pieces)
Sounds like a moment of self-realization.
Or, rather I should say, self-awareness.
Although, this guy is probably functioning at his full potential, so self-realization is probably also correct... :-\
Charlie Questioning Palin
Can you look the country in the eye and say “I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?”
When I asked John McCain about your national security credentials, he cited the fact that you have commanded the Alaskan National Guard and that Alaska is close to Russia. Are those sufficient credentials?
Did you ever travel outside the country prior to your trip to Kuwait and Germany last year? Have you ever met a foreign head of state?
You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
Charlie Questioning Obama
Senator, I’m curious about your feelings last night. It was an historic moment. Has it sunk in yet?
when everybody clears out, the staff is gone, you’re in your hotel room at night and you’re alone — do you say to yourself: “Son of a gun, I’ve done this?”
when you announced, did you truly, in your gut, think that a black man could win the nomination of a major party to be president of the United States?
I watched closely your countenance last night, your mien, as you stood in that hall. You didn’t smile much. Has the joyfulness of this hit home yet? Do you take joy from it?
I sent an email to this idiot reminding him of his vision of the Tower of Pisa and the Washington Monument as Phallus symbols in a video of Obama in Berlin. Also, asked him why he thought Obama was more qualified to be President than Palin is to be Vice Prersident.
Tells you all about the mindless idiot who is authoring this smear.
Sure Bob, that's it. The media has just given Palin a free-ride since she was selected. This statement is so out of touch with reality that I fear for Mr. Herbert's sanity. Liberalism really is a mental disorder.
Bob Herbert is the dimwit who insists the McCain’s commercial about Obama’s Germany speech contained phallic symbols . . . . even after it was proven that they simply weren’t there. At first, he said he saw the Washington Monument, when it was actually a monument in Berlin near to the location of Obama’s speech.
IOW, he’s a total fool, with zero credibility. I laugh him to scorn.
My wife and I had that same conservation last night. I don't understand why these left wing moonbats don't understand every time they say Palin isn't ready, people automatically ask themselves "what about Obama"
They must think Americans are complete rubes or they simply don't have another play to run against her.
Probably a little bit if both
When Obama loses, Herbert is going to be the first guy out of the bax hollering “Racism”.
A Bob Herbert hit-piece on Palin is as regular as the sun rising. In fact, I would be worried if he missed one, as there might be some alignment issues in the universe.
Same as yesterday and the day before that-she had more executive experience than obozo after her first day as a mayor.
That fact in never going to change. Get used to it!
U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., right, faces New York Times columnist Bob Herbert, left, while while discussing his new book, "The Audacity of Hope," during a forum at the John F. Kennedy Library, in Boston, Oct. 20, 2006.
Any conservative or Republican who sits home this November 4 should be hung by their entrails.
NO EXCUSES!
Herbert needs to move out of the masturbatorium in his mother’s basement and get a clue.
