ATLANTA - The United Church of Christ’s rule-making body voted overwhelmingly Monday to approve a resolution that endorses same-sex marriage, making it the largest Christian denomination to do so.
Roughly 80 percent of the members of the church’s General Synod voted to approve the resolution. They debated for about an hour before voting.
Traditionally strong in New England, the liberal denomination of 1.3 million members has long been supportive of gays and lesbians.
In the early 1970s, the UCC became the first major Christian body to ordain an openly gay minister. Twenty years ago, it declared itself to be “open and affirming” of gays and lesbians.
The same-sex resolution was submitted by the Southern California and Nevada Conference. The resolution specified that bisexual and transgender persons merit the same support and protections as gays and lesbians.

All the other information says Trinity UCC is a totally independent entity. Now that doesn't mean someone in that crazy bunch over at UCC isn't going to claim them, but it's enough to suggest TUCC doesn't claim UCC, which actually would be a good thing. GO TUCC, GO.
Origins: It is true that Illinois senator (and Democratic presidential hopeful) Barack Obama has been associated with Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ (a single church which is part of the United Church of Christ denomination) for about twenty years, and it is true that TUCC describes its congregation as "an African people" who remain "true to our native land."
Like I said, doesn't stop UCC and it's merry band of gay blades from claiming TUCC though.

Just went through the site in the last few minutes to make sure it still said what it said, and it does although some things have been deleted.
UCC is not mentioned except in the name on the building.

In the wake of misleading attacks on its mission and ministry, Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ is being lauded by United Church of Christ leaders across the nation for the integrity of its worship, the breadth of its community involvement and the depth of its commitment to social justice.
Their earliest claims before they had to erase so much crap on their website related to how evil white people are claimed INDEPENDENCE.
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF TRINITY UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN CHICAGO, IL
Whereas, in the United Church of Christ, each local church is free to interpret God's message in their church and community, recognizing that churches may be on different paths on our journey with the Still Speaking God; and
Whereas, the United Church of Christ polity affirms the expression of these ideas in the local church when spoken in love and respect and in concern for the presence of God's reign here and now; and
Whereas, Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL, is a local church in the United Church of Christ; and
Whereas, in recent weeks, the media and various commentators have challenged, taken out of context and repeatedly broadcast certain controversial and prophetic statements of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., Senior Pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ; and
Whereas, the United Church of Christ recognizes that many of the statements of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., call into question the commitment of the United States to be a land free from racial, economic and social division; and
Whereas, the United Church of Christ aspires to be a multi-racial, multi-cultural, open and affirming, peace with justice and accessible to all denomination.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Executive Council of the United Church of Christ, meeting this 14th day of April, 2008, does hereby adopt the following resolution:
1. We stand in solidarity with and support of the local congregations of the United Church of Christ as they live out their charge to be prophetic witnesses to church, community and society; and
2. We affirm the long-standing Protestant and African American practice of pastors exercising their prophetic roles in the pulpit, in their communities and on the street; and
3. We resist having the mission of the United Church of Christ defined by political agenda(s); and
4. We hold Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago, IL, its members, the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, and staff, in prayer during this time of challenge; and
5. We uplift the multiple (over 50) ministries of Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago, IL, that address the justice needs of all Americans; and
6. We encourage members of the United Church of Christ and others to consider the repeatedly publicized controversial remarks of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. in their full and complete context and to inform themselves about Trinity United Church of Christ; and
7. We support the call for all churches of the United Church of Christ to conduct a sacred conversation about race, with background information and resources to be provided upon request to local churches, associations and conferences.

No, Trinity UCC is definitely a United Church of Christ congregation. I believe it is the largest, single congregation in the UCC.

At the same time, as pagan as the UCC has become, I'm not sure they've yet undertaken a top down racist theological position (not that the won't).
I told you, UCC can say whatever it wants, and if they want to embrace TUCC, fine, but a myriad of declarations from UCC does nothing to clarify where TUCC places its allegiance.

Perhaps you should explain just exactly why you DON'T want Trinity UCC to be a member of the UCC denomination even though the UCC claims that it is.

You may have something. Now, are you suggesting the UCC is actually a “black liberation” group these days?
As a pastor, I know that liberation theology (and black liberation is a form thereof) is a part of theologically liberal Christianity.
