Kwame Kilpatrick: Scourge of Detroit
City Journal ^ | 14 September 2008 | Justin Torres

Posted on 09/14/2008 8:06:54 PM PDT by Lorianne

The Motor City’s train wreck of a mayor finally steps aside—for now. ___ Kwame Kilpatrick’s resignation as Detroit mayor is effective September 18, but the city will be dealing with the legacy of his administration for years to come. Kilpatrick agreed to resign as part of a plea agreement on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, and official misconduct, filed after hundreds of sexually explicit text messages, printed in local papers, proved that he had committed perjury when he testified in a civil trial that he had not had an affair with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty. The case involved more than run-of-the-mill lying about adultery, however. In fact, it was consistent with a continuing pattern of Kilpatrick’s abuse of office.

The Obambi praised this guy as a great leader and great public figure. Now, Kwame is also under the bus.

and Detroiters will probably re-elect him in 5 years.

Kwami is the scourge of Detroit and Detroit is becoming the scourge of the US.

Soon to be replaced by another as bad or worse who will pander to the teacher’s union, (DPS is the #1 employer in Detroit), AFSCME, and the Democratic party.

I think he will enjoy "jail". Interestingly, Michigan requires prison for a felony - but I believe that the King is going to mere "jail" - a much comfier venue.

Us peasants would be going to The Big House. "Equal justice", indeed...

And the Lions are the scourge of the NFL.

True, what other teams win all their pre-season games and then lose 90% of the regular season, year after year.

True, Kilpatrick resisted some of the wilder excrescences of Detroit racial politics, vetoing a council-backed “Africa Town” proposal in 2004 that would have spent $40 million on the creation of an African-American business district.

Great word, that. Excrescences.
