ACLU Sues Suburb for Trying to Prevent Illegal Aliens from Renting Housing

Latino advocates and a civil liberties group have filed a federal lawsuit against a Dallas suburb whose officials are trying to drive out illegal immigrants.

The groups say the plan by the city of Farmers Branch to ask house and apartment renters to obtain a license is unconstitutional. Rental applicants would be run through a federal database to check their immigration status.

The lawsuit filed Friday by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union Immigrants' Rights Project is the latest facing Farmers Branch.

The suburb faces several other lawsuits in a nearly two-year battle over measures attempting to keep illegal immigrants from living there.

Yep, it’s illegal to pursue legal avenues to protect the laws on the books. The world is upside down and the enemies of freedom are taking over. Texas, one of the last places I’d expect this kind of problem, especially facing the illegal aliens whose country they broke away from to create liberty. Insanity everywhere.

“Latino advocates and a civil liberties group have filed a federal lawsuit against a Dallas suburb whose officials are trying to drive out illegal immigrants.”

Am I the only one on this site who was driven out of my home of thirty plus years due to encroaching illegal immigrants? Never mind that it was solidly middle class when the first home on the cul-de-sac was bought by some unknown entity and turned into a workers flop house. Two others followed before we left, not just the community, but the state.

So someone who uses falsified information to obtain a lease is not guilty of fraudulent representation and breach of contract?

Who knew?

The ACLU should do more work to ensure the RIGHTS of Americans’ liberties in Mexico. We cannot protest there even if we are in the country illegally. We are prohibited by Mexican law from owning land in Mexico as non-citizens.

There can be no cultural EXCHANGE when one culture is only reconquering long lost lands and not permitting a bi-directional “exchange”.

The destruction of communities these vile pukes bring is astonishing. Another poster said his hometown was trashed by the inlux of illegals. I’ve seen that same thing in countless towns. Hell, I left Los Angeles in the late 1970s for that very reason.

Actually, it could be good if the ACLU sues people for abiding by the law. It will set precedent for breaking the law, which will allow the rest of us the means to finally shut this organization down.

Unbelievable, and the liberal courts allow this.

This is no longer the country my father immigrated to, from Sweden, to became a naturalized citizen. When he got here everything he owned was in one suit case, on his back, and $200.00 in cash ($200 was required by law at that time.). He worked his way through college and graduated with a DDS degree. He never accepted welfare of any kind.

Renting to an illegal is a credit risk.

The groups say the plan by the city of Farmers Branch to ask house and apartment renters to obtain a license is unconstitutional.

They always say this but they always fail to say what ACTUAL article or section of the Constitution is being violated.
What they mean is they want a modern day JUdge/Court to determine some reason that they belive it is un Constitutional.

Let's get this straight. Americans are being sued by Americans because of a refusal to grant an illegal alien a place to live??? Foreign nationals here temporarily, i.e. tourists, businesspeople, have rights. Squatters can go back from which they came. One last thing, the ACLU should be counter sued by Farmers Branch for the entire cost of their legal representation. This has got to stop.

for the ACLU this is about the fact they GET ATTORNEY FEES BY STATUTE WIN OR LOSE!

The simple answer, require 100% to have a criminal background check and a criminal check includes immigration status.

This is good in that it is equally applied to ALL renters.

There is also a public interest in not having door breaking raids in the neighborhood.

I wonder what john mccain’s stand is on this suit...

This is where discovery needs to USED AGRESSIVLY.

Who are the name plaintiffs?

are they legally in the USA?

are they landlords?

If they are illegally in the USA, DOES THE JUDGE HAVE AN AFFIRMATIVE DUTY TO TAKE THEM INTO CUSTODY?

DO THE LAWYERS HAVE AN AFFIRMATIVE DUTY TO REPORT THE ILLEGALS?

failure to report in the presense of an affirmative duty will lead to disbarment.

Renting to an illegal is a credit risk.

How so? That you may not get your rent money? Less of a risk when you can inflate the rent, knowing that it will be paid by 20-30 occupants.
