With Wall Street convulsing, and the White House race intensifying, the question "Who lost Europe" is on no one's lips, let alone minds. Indeed, the question begs another: "Is Europe lost?"
The answer to the second question is, "No, not yet." And losing Europe, I would add, is by no means inevitable. But that doesn't mean the continent isn't currently hell-bent to accommodate the dictates of Islamic law, bit by increasingly larger bit. Such a course of accommodation, barring reversal, will only hasten Bernard Lewis' famous prediction that Europe will be Islamic by century's end.
And what do I mean by "accommodation"? Well, to take one tiny example, one snowflake in a blizzard of such examples, there are schools in Belgium that not only serve halal food to Muslim and non-Muslim alike (old news), but, according to a recent French magazine report, no longer teach authors deemed offensive to Muslims, including Voltaire and Diderot; the same is increasingly true of Darwin. (Don't even ask about the Holocaust.)
For a more substantial, indeed, keystone example of accommodation, we can look to England, where, it pains me to write, Sharia courts are now officially part of the British legal system. According to press reports this week, the British government has quietly, cravenly elevated five Sharia courts to the level of tribunal hearings, thus making their rulings legally binding.

I am not sure that I give a shit. They made their bed...
Yep. We, the US, should never spill one little drop of blood for these unappreciative bastards ever again.
It’s not ‘we’ that are losing Europe. Europeans are forfeiting it themselves.
Europeans that have lost the will to survive. We are watching the end result of desconstructist post modernism. Moral relativism has rendered them incapable of discernment and complacent.
It’s a historic tragedy.
That’s their problem. They’re so damned quick to point out anything that they see as a problem with America and they’re so hell bent on thwarting America’s goals that they can’t even see that they’re losing their culture and heritage. To hell with them.
Wrong! Europe is losing itself to Islam. Actually, they're giving themselves over to Islam, and they've got no one to blame but themselves.
Precisely.
My Mom predicted this 30 years ago, just based upon abortion and birth control practices in Europe.
What do you mean WE???
This is bad because the Euroweenies will want to immigrate here once they lose their continent, and will spread their idiotic socialist philosophy to Americans. Might as well sacrifice them while we re-load Stateside.
What do you mean, we?
The best thing that the native born Englishmen can do is to flee to New York City and/or Australia.
I care.
European history is my history. It is our history.
They’ll tear down the cathedrals.
We’re not losing anything. Israel, build the greatest ABM defense systems. Do it well. Do it fast, and don’t stop. Let western Europe deal with Iran.
Me too.
We should be concerned about all the damn Muslims living HERE!
Diana West is really a very good feature writer. And while some of the statistics she references in this article are chilling, I tend to agree with most posters.
Europe is a big kid. If they want to hang out with criminals, let 'em. It's not like they're begging us to interfere.
Hard to believe that islam could defeat them when Hitler couldn’t
Bye bye Europe you love being conquered by savages I guess. We ain’t saving ya this time. Have fun. Remember what you gave up and how you did it willingly you doofuses.
Seriously. It's hard to win without losing one's principles.
***My Mom predicted this 30 years ago, just based upon abortion and birth control practices in Europe.***
I was saying the same thing 30 years ago. Now I find that one of my friends was saying the same thing at the same time.
Europe is gone, not with a bang but with a whimper.
You ask the right question, but I think you have your answers backwards. It’s easy to lose when you give up your principles. Perhaps the Brits have lost by abandoning their principles for liberal philosophy, perhaps not. The real tests haven’t come yet. Not for them. Not for us. The British had one belief in 1939, but learned to see things differently a short time later. And here we are once again. Welcome to the late 1930s.
First of all, America if of foremost importance to me. My own survival and the survival of the culture that I believe in and the culture and beliefs that supports all of us.
Yes, I am concerned about the Muslims that live among us and the treachery that some of them are involved in.
But Europe is also important to Western civilization of which we are a part. Much of our knowledge and heritage is from Europe and the UK. They were a base for us.
It would be a tragedy for the entire world if Europe is lost to Islam. We don't live alone in the world and despite some of we Freepers making fun of Europe and France, etc. there are many great things about Europe that are worthwhile and even superior to some aspects of American products. Make fun all you want, but I love French cheese and wine.
Who here doesn't like Mercedes, BMW, Porsche or Ferrari? Anybody here want to pass up one of those?
I hope we're all united against the fascism of Islam and the cowardice and incompetence of Europe and much of the rest of the world in defending itself, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't care about Europe and the UK where much of our heritage comes from.
And have you ever seen Italian women? Mama mia!!
Damn right, and this should be reason enough for us to pull ALL our troops out of Western Europe.
Let them defend themselves, while bending over and kiss Islamic asses. I am somewhat saddened by this turn of events since I am from Europe.
My family roots goes back to the Roman Empire, and it is sad that, Europe with its history and heritage, is giving up the Arabs and their stone age way of life and customs.
Where are the Vikings, the Goths, the Visigoths, the Tracs, the Dacians. I never ever thought we come to this!
European history is my history. It is our history.
Thank you. So do I.
The enemy of my friend is my enemy.
It does seem the Brits (and the rest of Europe) bought a “pig in a poke” when they took up the Socialism of the Sixties as well as the “White Guilt” of being an colonial power.
We as Americans should take heed of and learn from Europes’ mistakes.(I pray)
No kidding. This is not just Europe’s problem. Have people forgotten our open border and the massive influx of Iraqi refugees we are getting soon? How about the Somali workers in NE who went on strike? People don’t start testing their clout until there are sufficient numbers of them to make a difference. We will have our own Muslim problem and sooner than you think.
Amen.
But I remain an optimist with respect to the ultimate issue. The question in my mind is not whether Europe will reassert its place in Western culture but how bloody and unpleasant it will be when it happens. Done now, it may be accomplished through the courts, with much shouting and a few broken heads, which in the context of European history isn't much. Immigration policies and insistence on assimilation are still feasible. In twenty years they might not be. At which time it will be done as it has always been done in Europe, with extreme violence and heaven help the innocent on both sides who are caught in between.
What is at stake, then, in my view, is simply the degree to which the current ruling class can force a war by insisting that its interpretation of peace is the only truth. It isn't demographics that is killing Europe (although they will in the end) but ideology. If that battle is not won the rest will be in vain.
It saddens me that this HAS happened not that it WILL happen. Europe is toast and we are too if we continue to put Democrats in office. We could have the whole thing in their hands if O wins. God help us.
I have to take a little bitter delight at the vision of European liberals, having fearlessly vanquished that backward superstition known as Christianity, now meekly surrendering to a religious pathology more backward, more intolerant, and more violent than even the ugliest medieval Christian practices.
For them to surrender Darwin is like watching a mother selling her baby for crack.
Son, my ancestors fought and died to rid themselves once and for all of Euroweenie tyranny, so spare me the guilt trip.
Sadly, it seems this country is slowly following suit with Europe. We see it in the news every other day, how some business or school has rolled over to accommodate the religious beliefs of Muslims. It’s hard not to fathom what is waiting for us down the line. I’m just glad that I’m on the tail-end of my life, and hopefully won’t live to see this country totally taken over by the Commies and the Muzzies.
“We”?
It's my history too, and it's very nice to care, but obviously these European nations didn't care enough about their own history, to keep it from being obliterated. When a nation hasn't the gumption to protect itself from being overridden, why should we? The muzzies rolled into Europe, and are in the process of conquering it without firing so much as one shot. And the sad thing is, this country is headed in the same direction.
"Theyll tear down the cathedrals."
Henry VIII beat them to it.
non-breeding self-excinction
Old Hank dismantled the monasteries, but he left the magnificent cathedrals standing and took them away from the pope so he could install his own religious leaders who would let him live the way he wanted to.
But this was only in England, not the rest of Europe.
My dad used to tell of the orders he and his men had as flight crews in WWII: they were to avoid the historical landmarks and strike only essential infrastructure. At war’s end, Cologne was rubble but the cathedral stood, barely damaged, surrounded by rubble, because the Allies respected history.
No way will the mullahs do that. They WILL tear them down.
Salisbury, Cologne, Aachen, Chartres, so many more.
Who lost Europe? Europe.
Agreed. If Obama gets in we may beat them to it in a catch-up surge to Islam.
