LAMBRO: Gun control target practice
The Washington Times ^ | 18 Sept, 2008 | Donard Lambro

Posted on 09/19/2008 7:00:06 AM PDT by marktwain

Gun control has suddenly emerged as the toxic issue of the 2008 presidential campaign, endangering Barack Obama's appeal among Democratic blue-collar and labor union households. The freshman Illinois senator has a long record of favoring gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C., and a raft of other gun control bills that are anathema to gun owners, hunters and sportsmen alike. He insists now he supports Second Amendment gun rights to keep and bear arms that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld when it struck down the D.C. gun ban in June. But he refused to join 77 of his colleagues who signed a friend of the court brief to end the weapons ban and remains sympathetic to a broad range of gun ban statutes.

Yet the Obama campaign has been running ads in key states with large populations of gun owners and hunters, insisting he supports the right to own a gun. He cannot run away from his record.

The McCain campaign, the Republican National Committee and the nearly 4 million-member National Rifle Association are blanketing the country with ads, Web site videos and other broadsides detailing his record - especially in battleground states where gun controls are political poison.

"...he supports the right to own a gun.."

Yes, a gun, and he picks which type and what ammo for that one gun you can own "for sporting purposes", as long as you are not a city resident or in the suburbs or further out, or near a school, park, or church.

OMG! please no hunting license!

If he shoots like he bowls, I sure don't want him near any firearms!

I mean, I suppose theoretically he could brain somebody with a bowling ball (assuming he could get up any momentum with his girlish technique), but if you handed him an actual firearm somebody could get HURT!

Notice Obama says “gun”. He does not say firearm. A gun is not always a firearm.

A pellet air gun is a gun, not a firearm. This is a liberal democRAT we’re talking about. One needs to be specific.

When are we going to see a McCain ad with Obama saying “I wouldn’t take away your guns even if I could”..

B.O. on gun rights:

"I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry"
-Chicago Tribune 4/27/04

"I think we have two conflicting traditions in this country." (gun ownership and restrictions of guns).
-Politico 2/11/08

“So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”
-April 2, 2008

Obama has tried so hard to hide his record, or have no record! He obviously missed the gun issue, otherwise he would have made sure to vote “present” on guns too!

I can’t believe that anyone with the middle name of ‘Hussein’ doesn’t like weapons.

I would hope that a lot of voters who are on the fence would look at this issue - that of BHO’s bald-faced lies about his long-held stance on firearms - and determine that he’s nothing but a run-of-the-mill lying politician out to get elected and advance his own interests, and nothing more. That, combined with his record of NO accomplishments should move those voters to McCain.

But make no mistake, the BIG issue here is his medacity. By lying in such an obvious manner, he clearly signals his contempt for the intelligence of the average voter. That should tick people off quite a bit...if it becomes known.

What a lying POS. This pinko hack would lie to GOD (and probably does) just to get elected. Talk about selling your soul to the devil for votes!!!!

If there’s anyone who actually believes that Barack Obama isn’t for outright gun confiscation, please contact me; I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’m willing to sell cheap.

So how can the NRA run issue ads within 60 days of the general election without being in violation of the McCain–Feingold Act? I’m still confused as to why that part of the Act wasn’t declared unconstitutional.

Yes, WA State issued a license to legal permanent residents for acquiring firearms, the problem is the DOL and not law enforcement is in charge of it, so the FBI will not the DOL access background checks, hence they cannot issue new licenses.
