CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Republican congressional candidate Jay Wolfe, a businessman and former state senator from Harrison County, told Gazette editors Friday that he's been trying to get his opponent, U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, to agree to a public debate this fall, without success.
Wolfe said Rockefeller also wouldn't debate him when the two ran against each other six years ago. Rockefeller won his third term in the 2002 election.
"He wouldn't debate me six years ago. I sent him a letter asking him to debate [this year], but I have not received an answer."
Wolfe has long been an opponent of abortion. "I don't think our government should be condoning murder," he said. "We need a constitutional amendment that protects the life of an unborn child, just like in 1865, when we passed an amendment ending slavery."

'Nuff said.
Cheers!
Wot? Jay Rockefeller refuses to show up for a debate and be exposed for the vacuous twit that he is?
John Davison Rockefeller IV, native of New York, has in fact held the seat much too long already, and he has far less in common with the people of West Virginia than even Robert Byrd, who was born in North Carolina with the birth name of Cornelius Calvin Sale Jr.
The refusal to permit domestic exploration and extraction of oil is a little odd, in that the great-grandfather of West Virginia’s current Senator, made the foundation of the vast Rockefeller fortune on the extraction, refining, distribution and sale of petroleum products right here within the boundaries of the US, long before the overseas exploitation of backwards and relatively unsophisticated tribesmen began, and created the worldwide spinoffs of Standard Oil and its wide number of subsidiaries, created to conform with demands of “trustbusters”.
Maybe this posture on the part of Sen. Rockefeller is just expiation of “white guilt”.
He’s a big lib and he’s drunk on power. Logic is not applicable to such people.
Dems never like to debate. You need ideas to debate and Dems can not win in the forum of ideas. They only win elections by stoking fear, hatred and racism and you can’t do that to well in a debate.
This would be a good candidate, but people in WV still are hoping against hope that the popular Rockefeller will send them a few goodies to help in hard times.
