Report urges diplomatic engagement with Muslims
New York Times ^ | 9/23/08 | Laurie Goodstein

After 18 months spent examining the deteriorating relations between the United States and the Muslim world during the Bush administration, a diverse group of American leaders will release a report in Washington today calling for a complete overhaul of American strategy to reverse the spread of terrorism and extremism.

The report recommends more diplomatic engagement, even with Iran and other adversaries, and a major investment in economic development in Muslim countries to create jobs for alienated youth. It calls on the next president to use his inaugural address to signal a shift in approach, to immediately renounce the use of torture and to appoint a special envoy within the first three months to jump-start negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The report, "Changing Course: A New Direction for U.S. Relations with the Muslim World," was produced by 34 leaders drawn from religious, business, military, foreign policy, academic, foundation and non-profit circles. The group included Democrats like Madeleine Albright, who served as secretary of state under President Clinton, and former Republican congressmen Vin Weber and Steve Bartlett.

It also included Thomas Dine, a former executive director of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America. One-third of the group were Muslim Americans. The members were selected by the sponsoring organizations, for Common Ground and the Consensus Building Institute, which both promote non-violent conflict resolution.

"...As the group pored over polls of people in various Muslim countries, they concluded that the negative perceptions were generated more by American policies than by Muslim religious or cultural beliefs. If policies shift, perceptions are likely to change too, the report says.

This smells REALLY fishy. Doesn't sound like the Bush Administration was involved at all. This "report" smells of encroaching dhimmitude and further capitulation to Islam.

More "investment" to create jobs for "alienated youth" in Muslim countries?? WTF?? How about providing them with midnight basketball courts, too?

And this is seemingly supposed to be a blueprint for the next president to follow??

What planet do these people live on. This report should be flushed down the toilet today.

The group included Democrats like Madeleine Albright, who served as was the least qualified person to ever act as secretary of state under President Clinton.

There fixed it

What Muslim Population Increase Brings

Don Morris writes at Doc’s Talk (thanks to Janet Levy):

...As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:

United States — Muslim 1.0%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1%-2%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:

Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2. 7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.

They will push for the introduction of halaal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. (United States).

France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — Muslim 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%
Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris — car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam — Mohammed cartoons).

Guyana — Muslim 10%
India — Muslim 13.4%
Israel — Muslim 16%
Kenya — Muslim 10%
Russia — Muslim 10-15%

After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:

Bosnia — Muslim 40%
Chad — Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%

From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:

Albania — Muslim 70%
Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
Sudan — Muslim 70%

After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide:

Bangladesh — Muslim 83%
Egypt — Muslim 90%
Gaza — Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia — Muslim 86.1%
Iran — Muslim 98%
Iraq — Muslim 97%
Jordan — Muslim 92%
Morocco — Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan — Muslim 97%
Palestine — Muslim 99%
Syria — Muslim 90%
Tajikistan — Muslim 90%
Turkey — Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates — Muslim 96%

100% will usher in the peace of “Dar-es-Salaam” — the Islamic House of Peace — there’s supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim:

Afghanistan — Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia — Muslim 100%
Somalia — Muslim 100%
Yemen — Muslim 99.9%

Of course, that’s not the case. To satisfy their blood lust, Muslims then start killing each other for a variety of reasons.

“Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world. And all of us against the infidel. — Leon Uris, “The Haj”...

“Dalia Mogahed, executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, said polls showed that people in Muslim countries feel “disrespected” by the United States...”

Disrespected???? Muslims murdered THOUSANDS of innocent civilians on 9/11 and THEY feel “disrespected”?

I don’t “disrespect” them. I just hold them accountable.

A "group of diverse Americans" will issue the report? What does diverse mean? It means people of various ages and both sexes, but with the common denominator that they take seriously the political views of the editors of the NY Times.

Since before the 9-11 Musliims have not only threatened but taken action against our ambassadors and their staff. How do you diplomatically engage thugs who kill diplomats?

Then let them all go to Iran and meet with their government. We’ll see if they can make it back alive.

If Madeline Albright is involved, it’s bad news, but a two year-old could tell you this stinks. ‘All we need to do is ask them what they want, hand it over, and everything will be hunky dory.’ Obama in the WH...he’ll follow this prescription for disaster asap.

Actually the poor perception of America is due to propaganda. Propaganda by our own left-wing and propaganda by other countries.

If policies shift, perceptions are likely to change too, the report says.

If policies shift to affect Muslim perceptions, it is likely to be interpreted as a sign of Western WEAKNESS by Muslims and produce more demands on their part for more appeasement on our part.

The national interests of the United States are best served when they are in the forefront of U.S. policy maker decision making. That doesn't mean we are to be ignorant of or insensitive to other nation's or other interest group's concerns. But turning over the formulation of U.S. Middle Eastern policy to the percieved perceptions and reactions of the Arab/Muslim street is a very stupid, naive, and dangerous idea.

It is hard to believe such a recommendation would be made by experienced policy advisors regardless of party. I can only assume they are lookinng for positions in the expected Obama administration.

As for the Palestinian - Israeli problem, it has been repeatedly noted that Israel has no credible Palestinian partner to negotiate with. In addition, what kind of peace can be negotiated when the Palestinian people and Hamas openly long for the destruction of the Israeli side? (Not to mention being aided and abetted in those desires by Hezbollah in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.)

How come when something doesn’t work we have to change our strategy? Why not change muslim thinking? They are living in the modern world with middle age thoughts. We should do everything we can to disengage with them and let them sink even lower into the squalid crapholes they live in until they finally realize they NEED US more than we need them.
