My Local Safeway Store and Obama
Vanity ^ | 9/24/2008 | Rivercat

Posted on 09/24/2008 10:22:28 AM PDT by rivercat

Yesterday I stopped by my local Safeway Grocery Store in the Washington Square shopping center in Petaluma, California. Right next to each entrance were Obama booths selling t-shirts, button, bumperstickers, etc. When I got home, we called Safeway and asked the "Store Manager of the Day" (his words) why they are allowing these partisan booths in front of the store. His response was (paraphrased) that they didn't do it, and that their landlord has the right to rent spots on their sidewalk. So, we called the Fulcrum Group, out of the Sacramento Area, and asked them if they rented this space to Obama. Their response was that they had no knowledge of any of this. So, that means that somebody is lying.

It turns out that the official Store Manager is on vacation this week, so we will follow up with him on Monday.

I think it's stupid for a company to potentially alienate up to 50% of their customer base by permitting partisan booths out front. I don't have any problem with petition signing, voter registration drives, or charitable non-profit stuff like Girl Scout Cookies.

So... If it turns out that Safeway is lying to me, then I'm never going to set foot in a Safeway again, and I'll urge everyone that I know to boycott Safeway as well.

Wouldn’t this also mean if that space is donated it is a contribution a campaign contribution and should be documented as such? Also another avenue is boycotting locally as well as nationally because of this. (In addition to what you are doing if you do not get any results.). I am sure you have thought of all of this though. You are clearly on the ball and a doer! :-). Good for you for going after this BS!!

"and that their landlord has the right to rent spots on their sidewalk."

Is there a law in your area where permits to sell are needed?

Do they try to “harrass and get in your face” as you are walking into the store? If so, I would call in a complaint to my local police dept.

Hey. If there is no one “officially” there to say yes or no to the approval of the Obamabots, then I suggest you also set up shop with your McCain/Palin campaign signs.

I can bet you, you will probably be visited within 10 minutes by the “official” manager in charge.

Oops. I was so pissed about this I did not read you last few sentences before posting my thoughts. lol. Please forgive me. You already are all over this. Let us know how it goes. So if need be we can take action. These Obamabots have no ethics! No morals it seems. Definately no respect for others or the constitution.

Great call...most every city mandates permits for outdoor sales.

I am curious.

Stores like Target, Best Buy and Safeway have banished or limited the Salvation Army from collecting voluntary donations for the poor and homeless during Christmas.

However, they are allowing the Obama people to freely solicit on their property?

Disgusting!!!

I never shop Safeway. As grocery stores go Safeway is the MOST liberal leftists. As you shop the overhead music stops as an announcer comes on and rants how “Safeway supports this ethnicity or that ethnicity” or how “Safeway supports diversity” bullcrap.

Also Safeway donates only to liberal charitable orgs.

Please ping me when you find out. We have a grocery store called Randalls and they must be associated with Safeway because I see Safeway products there. I think Safeway bought out the family a while back.

Although, I can’t imagine that they would allow that here.

This could easily become the most effective boycott ever. The result will be quick, immediate. If this persists, maybe we can go up there with some anti-Obama signs. See how they will react to that.

Get a bunch of pictures and send copies to the IRS and Safeway’s home office.

I have found that some of the louses in front of stores collecting signatures of collecting money start leaving when a camera is broken out.

I doubt Safeway is lying to you. Someone likely made a deal with a workerbee to put that junk on display. Keep going after them; don’t give up.

I’ll check around the local Vons (related to Safeway, I believe) here in Los Angeles and see if anything is here.

Went to Venice, CA beach/boardwalk on Saturday as it was a nice day. Tons of junk shops line the boardwalk, i.e., sunglasses, tee-shirts, etc. There was LOTS of Obama “gear” to be had all around, but only a few “people of color” were looking at it and no one was wearing it. I heard one young (white) male comment to his friend that the Obama pic used on most shirts, and the colors used as well, look like Communist fare. I turned and grinned at him and smiled; he had not thought he had been overheard and was relieved, I think, that I was not blasting him for his comment. It was good to see a young person (twenties) make that comment.

I won’t set foot in a Safeway anyway.

Thanks for following up on this. We need to know.
