Obama is not going to jump ahead in the polls if McCain takes his ads down for a couple of days. Honestly. This is a great “reset” button he just pushed. Obama is hidden away practicing his schpiel for the debates on Friday, McCain is seen being a leader instead of a politician. That speaks much louder than an ad. For people in the PR/Marketing business, they know that someone saying something good about you is much more valuable than you saying it about yourself. That is what is happening here. Obama is going to talk about himself and bad-mouth McCain during a crisis. McCain is going to lead. Bravo, McCain. This guy is one smart cookie, and he stands by his convictions (regardless of who he pisses off).

Yep.

That would be brilliant. And it would work.

Despite supporting him eight years ago, I had a hard time warming up to John McCain this time around until added Governor Sarah Palin to the ticket. He has been a grumpy old hot head who has used colorful language and offended me on many previous occasions. At this point though I believe Rush is completely correct calling him Senator McBrilliant. I had predicted in several posts that the Democrats would do everything possible to torpedo the economy to help Obama win. McCain has out maneuvered them again. By sticking to his theme of America first and politics second; he may just pull this thing off.

Here’s what I think is going on: Rick Davis is toast.

The Rick Davis-Fannie Mae issue is easy to refute in a debate. Davis' firm did in fact receive $15,000 in lobbying fees from Fannie Mae. But he was not alone. Dozens of firms with bipartisan connex got money. He also was not working in any capacity for McCain at the time.

Most importantly, whether or not he was paid, what did it get them? John McCain still sponsored the toughest reform of Fannie Mae in 2006, which was derailed by Democrats, including DIRECT Fannie Mae cash recipient Barack Obama. End of story. This burns Obama much more than it burns McCain.

McCain is attempting to make himself look Presidential and “above-the-fray” here, and it just might be effective if Obama refuses to go along. Because his character and experience are areas of considerable doubt for many voters, Obama could suffer by appearing to be more concerned about winning than about America’s financial future. The “moonbats” won’t care, but Independents and values-oriented Midwestern Democrats will.

Huge gamble on McCain’s part. He’s got Brass One’s.

Obama is not ready to lead.

That is the message the McCain campaign has been trying to pound for a month. That’s what they are doing now. We have the worst economic crisis in a quarter century. McCain is trying to show that he puts country first, and Obama puts Obama first.

A risky strategy I agree, but so is a squeeze play in baseball, but when executed correctly there is no defense against it.

Okay that is just nuts and dumb. One thing to suspend active campaign and go back to DC another to remove your ads. Thats just shooting yourself in the foot.

That would be great!

I can see suspending campaigning but dropping tv ads. What does that hurt?

I totally agree - John McCain is serious about this.

He always says country first; now he is proving it.

Putting country before partisanship is NEVER a blunder, and that’s why McCain is going to win this thing.

Here we are facing the biggest economic crisis since 1929, and one candidate is taking it seriously and is heading back to Washington, the other is demanding the debates still take place.

Fauxbama is not in the position of having to defend not doing the job he’s already been elected for... Fauxbama either returns to washington, or loses the election by a blowout.

I think Sarah is part of the campaign. She’ll probably go back to Alaska and get more executive experience.

To state the obvious, this is a high stakes gambit. But, it looks as though he has forced Nobama’s hand, who apparently has agreed to also suspend his campaign.

This is unbelievable.

Apparently Davis didn’t tell McCain about the retainer. I suspect that there are some people inside the campaign who are absolutely furious about that.
