Barack Obama has a two-point advantage over John McCain in the traditionally Republican state of North Carolina.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Tar Heel State shows Obama attracting 49% of the vote while McCain earns 47%. A week ago, McCain held a three-point edge. This is the first time in eight Rasmussen Reports polls that Obama has held any kind of a lead in North Carolina, though the candidates were tied once as well.

I think the socialists are pulling out all stops in this.

they see either their imminent total victory or total collapse.

McCain had better get on TV and SOON and tell how this financial mess got started, how HE predicted it years ago anad tried to stop it, and how the DEMOCRAPS prevented action.

If they let it pass without telling how it happened then they deserve to lose. it is the BIGGEST DEMOCRAP SCREW-UP IN HISTORY

I was called two days ago and when the poll was over I asked who was sponsoring the poll and was told “The Democrat National Committee.org”. I was asked how likely I was to vote, who I would be supporting for President and for Senate as well as whether I was pro-choice or pro-life.

I’m just posting these polls because they are all so out of whack, Obama is paying for push polls like a madman. You get what you pay for, if you pay the pollster and tell them you want a certain result, they’ll get it, trust me.

They are seriously this cycle trying to influence the polls and peoples opinions, its total Obama bias.

At this stage, McCain is behind about 5 pts nationally. This is probably still enough to win NC narrowly, but the poll is well within the margin of error.

Unfortunately this is probably accurate. The American people believe that this mess is the fault of Republicans. The Republicans WE need to set the record straight. Government/Democrat mandated affirmative action lending is reponsible. It’s not too little regulation but too much government interference in freedom.

I would like to know how McCain can be 5pts behind Obama nationally when 20% of the Hillary voters have stated they aren't going to vote for him.

Obama is going to get crushed!

Seems to me like it’s more “pro-McCain” than it was “pro-Bush” four years ago here in east Carolina. Certainly I see a lot of Obama support, but I see more and more McCain support since Palin.

I’m not worried about NC, we’ll be a red state this election. These polls are a bunch of hooey.

Before McCain does that he should use Sarah MORE! Since Obama and the debate organizers insist the debate goes on for Friday, McCain should send Sarah to stand in for him at the debate. After all, Vice Presidents stand in for their Presidents when needed. The Obama campaign has been saying how Sarah isn’t ready to be a heatbeat away from the Presidency, so they should be eager to try to prove she isn’t ready to be President by having Obama debate her! That debate sure would be FUN to watch!

Rasmussen is pretty solid... But I’m not buying this poll. I think McCain wins this state pretty comfortably. Bush won by 13 in both 00 and 04. A conservative Dem may make some inroads, but a far left (black nationalist) candidate ain’t going to flip it that much.

And, to be honest, the “suspending” of the campaign by bot sides is just a campaign ploy. They’re trying to prove their leadership capabilities.

It is and will be close in NC, but McCain should still win.

Obama has been advertising uncontested here for a good long while, and the 527s are running their vicious "McCain's gonna die from cancer" commercials.

Hard to believe NC would have fallen so far, so fast. Four years ago even with Edwards on the ticket, Kerry could only take 44% there. But sadly it would appear the state is changing. Even in SC Bush got “only” 58% while Presidents Regan and Nixon won by much larger margins.

Having said that, polls can be way off. Electoral-vote.com in its “this day in 2004” screen shows some numbers that are way off. One poll had Bush up by *14* in Wisconsin. We all know how that turned out. So while I am being realistic, I don’t think we need to give up hope.

Folks, the privacy of the average American has become so compromised that most, out of fear of some sort of retribution, are afraid to tell a pollster they are not voting for Obama. The Wilder Effect in this election will be unlike anything ever seen in American politics.

Also, be on the lookout for "news articles" discussing whether our ballots are really "secret". These articles will be used to scare white union voters into voting dem.

Oh, I agree with you! Just reporting from the trenches! It was kind of funny because when the pollster asked which candidate I would likely be voting for I answered, “I will not be voting for Obama”. He kind of sputtered around after that and started into the abortion question and I said, “I’m pro-LIFE and I don’t vote for anyone who isn’t”. That pretty much ended the call and I made sure that I found out who was doing the polling. They specifically asked for me by name when I answered the phone and I am a registered Republican. I think they are specifically targeting women and I am in my 40s.

> These polls are a bunch of hooey.

We heard that in 2006, too.

It was wrong to say that then, it is probably wrong now.

Another poster said that it was whistling past the graveyard to think that the relentless media barrage on McCain and especially Palin has not had any effect.

It is beginning to have a devastating effect.

Coupled with the fact that the Republicans are being blamed for the collapse of the Financial Markets, it bodes very badly for Republicans this year.

MCain and Palin will not be able to get their message out.

Unfortunately, the mass media is owned and run by, and staffed with Democrats. They will not permit the truth to come to light.

The only people who will know how this collapse really happened is political and financial junkies.

The rest of the people will have no clue, and go along with the mass media’s blame of the Republicans.

Unless something really big comes to light, we are toast.

Obama may win the election. But it's very close right now.

One of the calculations of the McCain campaign has been to concentrate all their resources on the closest states, and they have been successful in staying close, tied, or ahead in the states he needs to win. So while McCain trails slightly nationally, he leads in NH and he's on the cusp of victory in Pennsylvania.

Obama has tried to widen the playing field and worked hard to get NC and Indiana in play.

Look, if Obama wins the popular vote by 5% NC and Indiana won't matter. But if the popular vote is very close, NC and Indiana will go to McCain despite all Obama's efforts.

Actually, Rasmussen isn't one of the more accurate polling houses, if past data are to be considered relevant. They're not as bad as Gallup or LA Times polls, but they still aren't great, and their precision is lacking, as well.

The dems keep telling us that there’s no way to accurately do polling of young voters because they have cell phones.

Well, out of three of us living in this house, I’m the only one that exclusively uses the house phone. I’m also the only one that has answered a poll (during primaries). And I didn’t count on that poll as I was told they already had all the women they needed and would like to speak to a man.

Also my sons and DIL have all used nothing but cell phones for years - don’t even have a house phone installed

- all of us are registered Republicans.

I realize, being in Georgia, that none of us will be polled anyway, but I think with only one in seven of my immediate family using a house phone, it must be the same throughout the country and this has played havoc with the polls, and pollsters should adjust somehow.

Rasmussen has never come across as Obama-biased. This poll may or may not be accurate, but it is disconcerting nonetheless. Taken with most other polls, there is an obvious turn in this election bigtime towards Obama/against Mccain.
Two reasons: financial mess and the Borking of Sarah Palin.

it is the BIGGEST DEMOCRAP SCREW-UP IN HISTORY

There are LOTS of Democrap screwups to complete.

1. When LBJ and Hoover teamed up to kill JFK and then cover it up with the Warren Commission and the intimidation of the press to produce the mystery, is that bigger?

2. Jimmy Carter, nothing else needs to be said.

3. When Bill Clinton faced with OKC bombing and the overwhelming evidence that EIGHT IRAQI soldier/defectors from GULF WAR I were involved with McVeigh and Nichols with a TRANSPARENT PLOT to blow up the FED building, he lied and tried to tie it first to Rush Limbaugh and the right.....

4. When TWA800 was shot down in 1996, hundreds of witnesses said there was at least ONE missile and maybe TWO MISSILES that were fired at the plane. The White House forced the NTSB to come up with a center fuel tank explosion as the explanation. IT was an absolute BS explanation but “we” as a society apparently accepted it. Said one TWA pilot: “90 percent of us believe there was a government cover-up.”

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=23367

5. When clear ties to Iraq were found with the 9/11 attacks, the 9/11 Commission ignored/hid them just like the Warren Commission did years earlier. The NY SLIMES NEVER misses an opportunity to tell us that there were no ties to IRAQ in 9/11 attacks. PLEASE!!!!!

Demcocrats are worse? Actually they are BOTH, Repubs and Democraps, trying to hide the truth. LIARS? IT’s MUCH worse than that, WE THE PEOPLE need to get control before it’s too late, or did Bill Clinton long ago pass that point in history?

CONSPIRACIES? It’s much worse than that, a gov’t that can lie at will, the PRESS will never call them on it. I can give you THOUSANDS of reasonable links to call the official sceanrios into question, some are simply sufficient to prove they are lies, but no, we continue to live in “mystery” or “conspiracy theory.”

With all my heart, I hope that this is a false assumption.

The reasons I cannot vote for Obama are purely IDEOLOGICAL, not based on his ancestry.

I voted for Alan Keyes, who is black, because his IDEOLOGY is more congruent with mine than McCain’s. Palin is way closer to my ideology than anybody on the President or VP ticket since Ron Regan.

As for Obama’s ancestry, I submit that more people will be voting FOR him than AGAINST him for his ancestry. A lot of these folks think that “it’s about time” we had a president of afro or partial afro ancestry. Of course, ancestry is the completely wrong reason to vote for or against anybody.

My reasons for voting for or against anybody have always been based on ideology, not ancestry or gender.
