While tanking this bill might be better for the country, the lack of stability that would ensue over the next month would virtually guarantee an Obama Presidency. This bill must pass for everything to calm down and for McCain to win. Obama has capitalized on the instability over the last week to gain an advantage in the polls. The passage of this bill will stop the Obama surge.

Now Obama media is just plain lying. Don’t they read the news?

Now we know why Reid didn’t want McCain there.

BREAKING NEWS: Paulson and Obama - Friday,
September 26, 2008 @ 9:49:47 AM

When Sen. Barack Obama was given the floor to speak during White House negotiations, according to White House aides, he did so raising concerns about a House Republican alternative to the Paulson/Bernanke $700 billion bailout. But those concerns weren’t necessarily his, as he was not aware of the GOP plan before reviewing notes provided him by Paulson loyalists in Treasury prior to entering the meeting.

According to an Obama campaign source, the notes were passed to Obama via senior aides traveling with him, who had been emailed the document via a current Goldman Sachs employee and Wall Street fundraiser for the Obama campaign. “It was made clear that the memo was from ‘friends’ and was reliable,” says the campaign source.

The memo allowed Obama and his fellow Democrats to box in Republican attendees and essentially took what President Bush had billed as a negotiating meeting off the rails.

“Paulson and his team have not acted in good faith for this President or the administration for which they serve,” says a House Republican leader who was not present at the White House meeting, but who instead is part of the team hammering out the House GOP alternative. “We keep hearing about how Secretary Paulson is working with Democrats on this or that, yet he never seems to consider working with the party that essentially hired him. Perhaps he’s auditioning for a Democratic administration job. Our proposal didn’t just spring forth fully formed; we’ve been working on this for several days, and Treasury staff has known about it.”

This story is utter rubbish. McCain does not support Bush’s bailout, as the story implies. He supports “a plan” to avert a meltdown. That is not supporting “Bush’s bailout plan” as the story falsely implies. This is just as bogus as them claiming yesterday a deal had been reached — three separate times — each time the Republican saying it was absolutely false.

So, if this report is accurate, NOW Mr. McCain looks like a horse’s ass.

Doesn’t he know that consensus is NOT leadership but acquiescence?

Where did he development this unalterable compulsion to compromise?

My God, it’s frustrating.

If the pork (ACORN) remains in the bailout plan

I suspect that will NOT be in the plan.

If true, getting that in itself was worth McCain's travelling to DC.

Whatever agreement is passed, it will contain some of the “Bush bailout” configurations. Hence, the MSM will still call the outcome a “Bush bailout” in order to make it look like the Dems had it right all along.

I don’t see anywhere in this story that McCain backs the Paulson plan.... in fact the last paragraph disputes the title of this thread. I move that this thread be retitled under its ORIGINAL title.

People should learn how to read...

I’ve been waiting all morning for a statement from McCain’s campaign that he supports the House Republicans. Let’s see if the campaign denies this ABC News report.

If McCain supports this bailout, I am back to voting Libertarian.

Why is that? It’s McCain who stopped the 700 Billion no questions asked blank cheque bail out. Obama Reid etc. were trying to ram it through with Bush.

Screw Bush you mean. The sooner he’s out of there the better.

It’s simple. If this is true, you can kiss a McCain presidency goodbye. There is no point pulling for the guy. He’ll have proved that he is just barely better than Obama.

And while Palin turned me, I’ll have to go back to my original position which was it will be easier to destroy and obstruct an Obama presidency than to suffer through a McCain one.

God help the USA

Where’s a statement to that effect from McCain? This isn’t what he has been saying. He doesn’t like the current bill.

Hmmmmm Major Garret just said that Obama wants to open the debate with McCain's "erratic" behavior, lay the blame at Mac's feet, and also has a few good "zingers".

How strange for Major to mention something like that. Looks like O's camp playing dangerous games.

It’s nice of the opposition (’rats, Senate RINOs and W) to think of the House Republicans, but they have no real need of them. Either listen to them and follow them, or go your own way and reap the consequences.
