WaMu Recognized as Top Diverse EmployerAgain
Washington Mutual, Inc., September 24, 2008 Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM), one of the nations leading banks for consumers and small businesses, has once again been recognized as a top employer by Hispanic Business magazine and the Human Rights Campaign.
Hispanic Business magazine recently ranked WaMu sixth in its annual Diversity Elite list, which names the top 60 companies for Hispanics. The company was honored specifically for its efforts to recruit Hispanic employees, reach out to Hispanic consumers and support Hispanic communities and organizations.
The Human Rights Campaign, the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization, also awarded WaMu its second consecutive 100 percent score in the organizations 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which measures progress in attaining equal rights for GLBT employees and consumers. WaMu joins the ranks of 259 other major U.S. businesses that also received top marks in the annual survey. The CEI rated a total of 583 businesses on GLBT-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination policies and domestic partner benefits.
In both surveys, WaMu earned points for competitive diversity policies and programs, including the recently established Latino, African American and GLBT employee network groups, all of which have a corporate executive sponsor and champion.
Diversity is an integral part of cultivating a welcoming, innovative and dynamic workplace here at WaMu. We are proud to be recognized for the opportunities and benefits we offer to all of our employees, including the specific efforts we have made to engage Hispanics and the GLBT community, said Steve Rotella, WaMu president and COO. We are committed to diversity at WaMu and pledge to listen to our customers and work closely with our employees to continue to make progress.
These two recent honors build upon diversity recognitions WaMu received earlier in 2008. WaMu was named one of 25 Noteworthy Companies by Diversity Inc magazine and one of the Top 50 Corporations for Supplier Diversity by Hispanic Enterprise magazine.

...and we ALL know how much more important it is for financial institutions to receive Awards from far-left organizations than to, say, STAY FINANCIALLY SOLVENT!!!
Is it me or did the former bank known as WAMU have priority problems?
Fat lot of good it did them.
I bet the shareholders and bond holder are impressed.
I think Wachovia boasted about their minority employees as well.
They even boast how they are employing people with learning disabilites, too bad they were all in the underwriting department.
Now
so this is why barney frank wanted the bailout so badly.
I guess they were more worried about minorities and homos to make a profit. Fact is, I have never seen a liberal with good business sense. Anytime I have seen a liberal make it they have had a conservative business partner.
All I know about minority employment I learned “North Dallas Forty”.
Fat lotta good it did ‘em.
Thanks for posting this.
The article enforces Grampa Dave’s basic core re where to invest, bank and even park your money.
Avoid liberal controlled corporations, businesses and anything where they control the finances or you will be sorry.
Also, don’t listen to left wing financial liars pretending to be financial advisors. Cramer is the poster boy of this group.
Michael Scott: What is the single most important thing for a company? Is it the building? Is it the stock? Is it the turnover? It’s the people. The *people*. My proudest moment here wasn’t when I increased profits by 17%, or cut expenditure without losing a single member of staff. No, no, no, no. It was a young Guatamalan guy, first job in the country, hardly spoke a word of English, but he came to me and he went “Mr. Scott, will you be the Godfather to my child?” Wow. *Wow.* Didn’t work out in the end. We had to let him go. He sucked.
Schadenfreude, and most of the job losses will be in leftist wacko WA state!
Is it Dr. Phil who says:
“So, how’s that working for you?”
Strange that their PR department was in such full
swing mode given the date.
What happens when social engineering trumps good business sense.
WA is not a “leftwing wacko state”.
Here you can still buy evil black guns and get a concealed carry permit in a few days.
Here, we have NO INCOME TAX.
Here it costs $35 to register your car.
You live in Mass!! Talk about the kettle calling the pot black !! LOL !!
They had numerous charity drives for this and that but the only one was turned down. We tried to set up a drive for Homes For our Troops and they said no.
Way to go "diverse employees" and unqualified senior management!
