Barack Obama maintains an advantage on the economy, especially economic empathy, and he's cracked majority acceptance on his key challenge, experience. But the political center remains unrooted, keeping John McCain in the race, albeit against headwinds.
Movement continues among independents, quintessential swing voters and a highly changeable group this year.
They favored McCain by 10 points immediately after the Republican convention, swung to Obama last week and stand now at a close division between the two -- 48 percent for McCain, 45 percent for Obama in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll.
Preference among likely voters overall is 50-46 percent, Obama-McCain, a bit closer (albeit within sampling error) than the 52-43 percent last week.
The race between them is up for grabs as long as movables -- independents and others less rooted in partisan allegiance -- remain unswayed by either candidate.
But fundamental advantages for Obama remain...

GWB...He will be glad to see Texas again!
WELCOME HOME GEORGE! BBQ waitin for ya!
revenge is a dish best served cold.
I have finally had enough of this President. He can’t go soon enough for me. This business with agreeing to give Henry Paulson a blank check to bail out his buddies at Goldman Sachs was the last straw.
I don’t think he’s trying to throw it. I don’t think he has any idea how to support conservatives and conservatism.

“Thar’s a Yellow Stain from Texas, it carps out like a nag,
And for four long years it stained the Lone Star Flag,
Still, the great folk of Texas knew it brought the state no shame,
‘Cause the Yellow Stain of Texas was a carpetbag from Maine.
Now it stains the Oval Office, and conservatives as well
It brings the stain of shame by enabling liberal hell,
I cannot wait to scrub away this putrid yellow stain
By replacing it in January with the team of Palin ‘n McCain!”
ABC? Did they mention the approval (sic) rate of congress?
Barack Obama maintains an advantage on the economy, especially economic empathyIt's all about feelings.
The election is Obama’s to lose. McCain has recently made several bone headed statements (”The economy is fundamentally sound”) and has failed to capitalize on the fact that he was calling for increased oversite on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac way before it was in vogue to do so.
There's been no end to his being trashed by practically everyone. He's clearly doing what he thinks is best for the country - right or wrong.
I have sympathy for the man. No sane person would want to be President these days.
I will vote McCain, but I am preparing myself for the reality of a Barack Hussien Obama presidency.
This is the first presidential election in my lifetime where I think if one candidate wins, it likely will damage our nation beyond repair. Obama is that candidate.
I can see under Obama:
Much higher taxes, including schemes to get government access to our 401k/403b savings.
Weakened military.
Compromises in America’s sovereignty as Obama hands control to the UN under the Global Warming guise.
Increased racial tension, I don’t think blacks are ready for a black president.
Increased moves to nationalize businesses.
Incredibly turbulent economic times.
As I see it, Obama is in, and we are screwed.
This is the Bush dynasty sticking its finger in the eye of the conservative movement one final time.
I think you are right . Bush does not have a clue about how to use the bully pulpit ....
Here is why you will lose the election. EVEN now you cannot get over your pathetic desperate hate for Bush to focus on your REAL enemy, the Democrats.
You McCainbots don’t get it. When you trash Bush, it sticks to McCain. MOST voters only notice the R next to both their names
WTF is economic empathy ?
Sadly, I have to agree with you.
McCain is part of the eastern GOP elite. These are the same people who have run the W Presidency. Their greatest desire is to have the liberal media like them. What they don’t get is that the liberal media will only like you if you aren’t trying to beat a Democrat.
The GOP elites have accepted permanent minority party status. They don’t really want to put their country first. They want to put their popularity with the liberal establishment first.
Really an utterly stupid, ignorant thing to say. When Obama is swore in in Jan you and the rest of the pathetic Freeper whiners can look in the mirror for who to blame.
This pathetic non stop whining and fragging your own side for the last 8 years is the ultimate reasons the GOP is going to lose badly this year. You people simply lack the mental and emotional discipline to be a party in power. All you are capable of is sitting on your asses whining hysterically because everything is not perfect for you.
List of Bush's accomplishments
Most importantly, won the war in Iraq and winning the war in Afghanistan thus immeasurably strengthening the US Strategic position in the world both militarily and diplomatically.

Character & Conduct as President
1. Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the presidency. \
2. Has reintroduced the mention of God and faith into public discourse.
3. Handled himself with enormous courage, dignity, grace, determination, and leadership in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 hijackings and anthrax attacks. He almost single-handedly held this country together during those searing days:
* Just three days after the attacks, in his address at the National Cathedral, the President reassured the nation when he said: War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder. This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others. It will end in a way, and at an hour, of our choosing.
* On Friday, September 14, 2001, President Bush visited Ground Zero. Standing on a crushed and burned fire engine atop the smoldering pile at Ground Zero, he put his arm around a retired firefighter who had volunteered to help, and began speaking to the crowd. Rescue workers shouted that they could not hear him. Someone handed him a small American flag and bullhorn. The President spontaneously shouted: I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon. The crowd roared with cheers and chants of USA! USA! USA! Then he raised that American flag and rallied a nation:
Education & Employment Training
1. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act, delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations). The very liberal California Teachers union is currently running radio ads against the accountability provisions of this Act.
2. Announced Jobs for the 21st Century, a comprehensive plan to better prepare workers for jobs in the new millennium by strengthening post-secondary education and job training, and by improving high school education.
3. Is working to provide vouchers to low-income students in persistently failing schools to help with costs of attending private schools. (Blocked in the Senate.)

8. Increased funding for the Troops-to-Teachers program, which recruits former military personnel to to become teachers.
Environment & Energy

2. Submitted a comprehensive Energy Plan (awaits Congressional action). The plan works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc.
3. Established a $10 million grant program to promote private conservation initiatives.
4. Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops.
5. Changed parts of the Forestry Management Act to allow necessary cleanup of the national forests in order to reduce fire danger.
6. Part of national forests cleanup: Restricted judicial challenges (based on the Endangered Species Act and other challenges), and removed the need for an Environmental Impact Statement before removing fuels/logging to reduce fire danger.
7. Killed Clintons CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California.
8. Provided matching grants for state programs that help private landowners protect rare species.
Defense & Foreign Policy
1. Successfully executed two wars in the aftermath of 9/11/01: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom.
2. Saddam Hussein is now in prison. His two murderous sons are dead. All but a handful of the regimes senior members were killed or captured.
3. Leader by leader and member by member, al Qaida is being hunted down in dozens of countries around the world. Of the senior al Qaida leaders, operational managers, and key facilitators the U.S. Government has been tracking, nearly two-thirds have been taken into custody or killed. The detentions or deaths of senior al Qaida leaders, including Khalid Shaykh Muhammad, the mastermind of 9/11, and Muhammad Atef, Osama bin Ladens second-in-command until his death in late 2001, have been important in the War on Terror.
4. Disarmed Libya of its chemical, nuclear and biological WMDs without bribes or bloodshed.
5. Continues to execute the War On Terror, getting worldwide cooperation to track funds/terrorists. Has cut off much of the terrorists funding, and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network.
6. Initiated a comprehensive review of our military, which was completed just prior to 9/11/01, and which accurately reported that ASYMMETRICAL WARFARE capabilities were critical in the 21st Century.
7. Killed the old US/Soviet Union ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses.
8. Has been one of the strongest, if not THE strongest friend Israel has ever hand in the U.S. presidency.
9. Part of the coalition for an Israeli/Palestinian Roadmap to Peace, along with Great Britain, Russia and the EU.
10. Pushed through THREE raises for our military. Increased military pay by more than $1 billion a year.
11. Signed the LARGEST nuclear arms reduction in world history with Russia.
12. Started withdrawing our troops from Bosnia, and has announced withdrawal of our troops from Germany and the Korean DMZ.
13. Prohibited putting U.S. troops under U.N. command.
14. Paid back UN dues only in return for reforms and reduction of U.S. share of the costs.
15. Earmarked at least 20 percent of the Defense procurement budget for next-generation weaponry.
16. Increased defense research and development spending by at least $20 billion from fiscal 2002 to 2006.
17. Ordered a comprehensive review of military weapons and strategy.
18. Ordered a review of overseas deployments.
19. Ordered renovation of military housing. The military has already upgraded about 10 percent of its inventory and expects to modernize 76,000 additional homes this year.
20. Is working to tighten restrictions on military-technology exports. 21. Brought back our EP-3 intel plane and crew from China without any bribes or bloodshed.
21. Pushed thru Congress the 1st Military Death benefit raise in decades. Rasied the grant for survivors of military personal killed in the line of duty from a pitful $10,000 to over $100,000. Globalization & Internationalism
1. Challenged the United Nations to live up to their responsibilities and not become another League of Nations (in other words, showed the UN to be completely irrelevant).
2. Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court.
3. Told the United Nations we werent interested in their plans for gun control (i.e., the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty).
* 4. The only President since the founding of the UN to essentially tell that organization it is irrelevant. He said: The conduct of the Iraqi regime is a threat to the authority of the United Nations, and a threat to peace. Iraq has answered a decade of UN demands with a decade of defiance. All the world now faces a test, and the United Nations a difficult and defining moment. Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced, or cast aside without consequence? Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant? We all know the outcome and the answer.
5. Told the Congress and the world, America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country.
Government Reform
1. Improved government efficiency by putting hundreds of thousands of jobs put up for bid. This weakens public-sector unions and cuts undeserved pay raises.
2. Initiated review of all federal agencies with the goal of eliminating federal jobs (completed September 2003) in an effort to reduce the size of the federal government while increasing private sector jobs.
3. Led the most extensive reorganization the Federal bureaucracy in over 50 years: After 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency, the Department of Homeland Security.
* 4. Ordered each agency to draft a five-year plan to restructure itself, with fewer managers.
5. Converted federal service contracts to performance-based contracts wherever possible so that the contractor has measurable performance goals.
Health
1. Strengthen the National Health Service Corps to put more physicians in the neediest areas, and make its scholarship funds tax-free.
2. Double the research budget of the National Institutes of Health.
3. Signed Medicare Reform, which includes: * A 10-year privatization option. * Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine. * More health care choices: As President Bush stated,
when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. Whats good for members of Congress is also good for seniors.
* New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means youll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford.
Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration
1. *See Government Reform above. Under President Bushs leadership, America has made an unprecedented commitment to homeland security.
2. Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first 10 ABM silos in Alaska so that America will have a defense against North Korean nukes. Has ordered national and theater ballistic missile defenses to be deployed by 2004.
3. Announced a 9.7% increase in government-wide homeland security funding in his FY 2005 budget, nearly tripling the FY 2001 levels (excluding the Department of Defense and Project BioShield).
4. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create one face at the border. This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders.
5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity.
6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals.
7. Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones.
8. Announced the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet-based system that is improving Americas ability to track and monitor foreign students and exchange visitors. Over 870,000 students are registered in SEVIS. Of 285 completed field investigations, 71 aliens were arrested.
9. This week, the US-VISIT program began to digitally collect biometric identifiers to record the entry and exit of aliens who travel into the U.S on a visa. Together with the standard information, this new program will confirm compliance with visa and immigration policies.
10. Eliminated INS bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability. 11. Split the Immigration and Naturalization Service into two agencies: one to protect the border and interior, the other to deal with naturalization.
12. Signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal aliens.
13. Established a six-month deadline for processing immigration applications.
14. Information regarding nearly 100% of all containerized cargo is carefully screened by DHS before it arrives in the United States. Higher risk shipments are physically inspected for terrorist weapons and contraband prior to being released from the port of entry. Advanced technologies are being deployed to identify warning signs of chemical, biological, or radiological attacks. Since September 11, 2001, hundreds of thousands of first responders across America have been trained to recognize and respond to the effects of a WMD attack.
Judiciary & Tort Reform
1. Is urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits.
2. Killed the liberal ABAs unconstitutional role in vetting federal judges. The Senate is supposed to advise and consent, not the ABA.
3. Is nominating strong, conservative judges to the judiciary.
4. Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims.
Politics
1. His leadership resulted in Republican gains in the House and Senate, solidifying Republican control of both houses of Congress and the presidency.
2. Signed an EO enforcing the Supreme Courts Beck decision regarding union dues being used for political campaigns against individuals wishes.
3.Has prosecuted 527 corrupt Union bosses in an effort to reform the rampant corruption in the Labor Unions.
Second Amendment
1. Ordered Attorney General Ashcroft to formally notify the Supreme Court that the OFFICIAL U.S. government position on the 2nd Amendment is that it supports INDIVIDUAL rights to own firearms, and is NOT a Leftist-imagined collective right.
2. Signed TWO bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit.
3. Currently pushing for full immunity from lawsuits for our national gun manufacturers. 4. *See Globalization & Internationalism.
Traditional Values, Compassion & Volunteerism
1. Endorses and promotes The Responsibility Era. President Bush often speaks of the necessity of personal responsibility and civic volunteerism. He said, In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if youve got a problem, blame somebody else to one in which every single American understands that he or she is responsible for the decisions that you make; youre responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; youre responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; youre responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; youre responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself.
2. Started the USA Freedom Corps, the most comprehensive clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities ever offered. For the first time in history, Americans can enter geographic information about where they want to get involved, such as state or zip code, as well as areas of interest ranging from education to the environment, and they can access volunteer opportunities offered by more than 50,000 organizations across the country and around the world.
3. Established the The White House Office and the Centers for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative located in seven Federal agencies. The faith-based initiative supports the essential work of these important organizations. The goal is to make sure that grassroots leaders can compete on an equal footing for federal dollars, receive greater private support, and face fewer bureaucratic barriers. Work focuses on at-risk youth, ex-offenders, the homeless and hungry, substance abusers, those with HIV/AIDS, and welfare-to-work families.
4. The White House released a guidebook fully describing the Administrations belief that faith-based groups have a Constitutionally-protected right to maintain their religious identity through hiring even when Federal funds are involved.
5. Issued an EO implementing the Supreme Courts Olmstead ruling, which requires moving disabled people from institutions to community-based facilities when possible.
6. Increased funding for low-interest loan programs to help people with disabilities purchase devices to assist them.
7. Revised the Department of Housing and Urban Developments Section 8 rent subsidies to disabled people, permitting them to use up to a years worth of vouchers to finance down payments on homes. HUD has started pilot programs in 11 states.
8. Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men, women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa.
9. Heeding the words of our own Declaration of Independence, the president laid out the non-negotiable demands of human dignity for all people everywhere. On January 29, 2002, he said, No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity. As stated by the President, they are a virtual manifesto of conservative principles:
* Equal Justice
* Freedom of Speech
* Limited Government Power
* Private Property Rights
* Religious Tolerance
* Respect for Women
* Rule of Law

Neither does McCain and his "bipartisan" pablum is getting old for this voter.
I am beginning to suspect that Bush set McCain and the GOP up. This is the real October surprise. Causing an economic meltdown when it could only imnprove the democrats chances of taking it all.
I figured I’d look at the article and see what Bush’s numbers are. It is 3 pages long. The numbers aren’t on page 1 but this is:
“Bush’s Disapproval Rating Highest in History”
“Just two presidents have had lower approval (Richard Nixon and Harry Truman) than President Bush, and none has had higher disapproval in polls since 1938.”
Hmm. Highest Disapproval Rating Since FDR!
All of the rest is number crunching about McCain and Obama.
Guess his numbers aren’t as bad as Pelosi’s Congress. To get THAT information, you have to get to the bottom of page 3 and open a PDF.
http://abcnews.go.com/images/PollingUnit/1074a2PostDebate.pdf
Basically 70% disapproval (and Republicans and conservatives diapprove of a bailout and his immigration policy, not the same thing as disagreeing with him on same sex marriage, abortion, and the wars). And 28% approval, over 3 times Congress’ all time low.
Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave over what ABCDisney is doing to the President and election.
Any mention of the approval numbers of Congress?
Add the possibility of reparations in some form to the list. Some sort of tax, something, but with a ‘rat congress, if Barry gets in, we’ll see it.
He f-e-e-l-s your pain. /s
“Add the possibility of reparations in some form to the list. Some sort of tax, something, but with a rat congress, if Barry gets in, well see it.”
Yes, I forgot that. Congress did apologize this year, didn’t they? That didn’t happen without an agenda behind it. Reparations will happen, whether it be some form of direct payment, or tax break, or rebate or something.
I also forgot compulsory “community service” for everyone. I could see this happening, and those who choose not to participate, (since it is a “free country”), would pay additonal tax.
While W has been a disappointment these last 2 years, I’d still prefer 10 more years of Bush to 10 minutes of Obama.
“No sane person would want to be President these days. “
I agree. Says a lot about our current candidates.
>I have finally had enough of this President. He cant go soon enough for me.
Same here. I can’t even look at him on TV anymore, I turn the channel. He makes me ill.
And I voted for him twice, the clueless globalist dirtbag.
LQ
Right, I forgot. I'm supposed to support someone no matter what they do as long as they have an "R" next to their name. Sorry for thinking for myself.
How about this accomplishment: Through the prescription drugs plan, Bush authored the greatest increase in the size and scope of the federal government since the Great Society.
How about this accomplishment: Bush routinely nominated inept cronies to bureaucratic and cabient positions, and the cronies became a complete embarrassment to his administration and the Republican party in general when their ineptitude became obvious.
How about this accomplishment: President Bush never fought back against Democrat attacks against the Republican party, but instead tried to be "bipartisan." This allowed the Democrats to walk all over the Republicans and re-gain control of Congress
How about this accomplishment: President Bush went into Iraq with no exit strategy and attempted to fight a "limited war" ala LBJ and McNamara, and he didn't turn from that failed strategy until John McCain pushed him to accept the surge.
How about this accomplishment: Bush crony Donald Rumsfeld tried to fight a limited war in Afghanistan that resulted in us relying on local warlords. These warlords betrayed us at Tora Bora, allowing Bin Laden to escape.
How about this accomplishment: Bush nominated a liberal Democrat, Hank Paulson, to the Treasury. Paulson unnecessarily bailed out Bear Stearns, creating the expectation on Wall Street of future bail outs. This is why Fuld at Lehman started doubling down on subprime earlier this year, leading to Lehman's demise. Paulson has nationalized huge portions of the financial system, bringing us within a hair's breadth of communism.
Oh control yourself! He’ll be gone in 4 months and then you’re free at last/s! Good grief, I’ll be glad when that time comes, and the rest of us won’t have to see the growling and snarling all over here anymore!
I can’t wait to see what you all (Bush bashers) are going to do when Pres. Barack gets in! What are you going to do then? Where is your precious ‘pure’ conservative attitude going to take you then?
Sometimes I’m actually afraid of seeing ( McCain/Palin) get in. Some of you will turn on her like a fury if she dares to even step out of bounds!
Even if they don’t get in, enjoy Pres. Obama! Tsk!
An open secret in DC is that Bush and McCain hate each other. Bush decided to get his revenge on McCain while at the same time giving the middle finger to conservaties within the GOP who have abandoned him because of his liberal economic policies and refusal to fight back against the Democrats.
How true! A whole lot of them want to be dictator, but not leader! Then there’s the ones that are supposed to be on our side, but take a mean-spirited kick in the gut to someone falling. I had hoped that there would be something to give him a real solid triumph before he goes, but I guess not. Even if he did what they want, it would never be enough, they wouldn’t even care!
The left won’t notice, the right won’t either! They don’t want to even acknowledge what he’s done right anymore! And that, my friends, is a shame! Surely he hasn’t been perfect. But is he the devil or fool people on the left and right say/imply he is?
WOW--You've pegged me, again, Johnnie. But you're correct in pointing out my dispisal of George W. Bush. A hard-line independent Reaganite, I didn't like his old man and I cannot stand him! But, what I cannot understand, is why Bush always gets the pass with you so-called "conservatives"?
True, McCain teamed with Feingold to pass campaign finance BUT BUSH SIGNED IT! True, McCain worked with Kennedy on immigration BUT BUSH INSPIRED, ASKED FOR AND BACKED IT! Add to this: Dubai Ports, Harriet Myers and Gonzo 1st choice for the Supreme Court, No Child Left Behind, prescription drugs for seniors, "Heckuva job Brownie, in Katrina; anti-surge and "autopenning condolence" Rumsfeld, Gen. Casey and Amb. Bremer in Iraq; plus Henry Paulson, Ben Bernake, Chris Cox, Don Evans, and Norm Mineta AND YOU COME UP WITH THE 2ND CARTER ADMINISTRATION.
I cannot believe that, if had McCain been elected in 2000 instead of Bush, that the presidency could have been worse. It would have been, IMO, far better because:
1. McCain believed in the military doctrine of overwhelming force against an enemy.
2. Is basically a S.O.B. in the mold of effective management and would have had no trouble in misplaced loyality when it came to firing ineffective officials.
3. Is above a leader--much like Reagan was a leader.
God bless you...and I hope your vote gets counted and that there are millions more just like you there for a very big surprise for the Obamanation.
Thank you so much, MNJohnnie! I needed to see that. I think a lot of us that still admire our Pres. needed to see, and a (unfortunately more)lot of people needed to be reminded of! (not that they care)
They can sit and throw poo, but what they don’t realize is that this whole country is not made of only conservatives. The Pres. needs to be president of all the people, not just conservatives! This board has been overtaken by these people!(Bush bashers, McCain bashers)
GW took a satnd, although not popular, was his view of the situation.
George has stood his ground, right or wrong I voted for him, I would again, he has brought us through some troubled waters, and I am glad to say, We here today are still standing.
Freepers will have to do the job after he has gone. McCain is our candidate, and I will stand for him as well, win or lose Freepers can Never Sleep!
God Bless You All!
The last 4-5 times I have seen Bush on TV he has that "I don't give a sh*t about anything anymore" look on his face.
Bingo. They are rino's.
BTW: You left out Bush's $50 billion aids program for Africa.
I don’t see how a single one of those items would have gone down any better if Al Gore Junior or John FTA Kerry had been elected president.
I’m not debating that we should have voted for Gore or Kerry. I am saying George Bush has betrayed the Reagan revolution.
Bump! McCain is certainly more conservative (or less liberal anyway) than George W. Bush, but both suffer from the same disease of wanting to please the liberal media establishment.
GW took a satnd, although not popular, was his view of the situation. George has stood his ground, right or wrong I voted for him, I would again, he has brought us through some troubled waters, and I am glad to say, We here today are still standing...
I not to be disagreeable, sir, but to vehemently disagree, GWB has really never taken a stand on anything...he's only reacted when he's been painted into a corner and that has been what has made him unpopular. He only reacted, never proacted! There was all the evidence in the world before 9/11 (bombing of the USS Cole, African embassy, Somolia and Clinton's absymal performance of countering any of it) yet 9/11 occurred. Iraq was necessary but not with "I'm not interested in nation building" limited warfare. There was plenty of warning about Katrinia and, whoever allowed his overflight afterwards (Rove) should have been fired immediately.
Personally, I wish the best for every president upon gaining office (even, Obama, should he get elected) because a great president usually means a better country. Accordingly, I had high hopes for Bush until about the first 100 days after Operation Iraqi Freedom when it became evident that, despite an overwhelming military victory there was widespread chaos, looting, crime and increasing insurgency from foreign Al Qeida terrorists pouring into the country due to a reining in of needed occupation troop presence. I didn't understand the strategy of not immediately employing a surge when it was first needed and still don't. He's further reacted to immigration problems, reacted only after the 2006 "thumpin'" and he's reacting now to the so-called economic crisis. He's never proactively led.
They wouldn't have been, things would have been much worse BUT THE COUNTRY WOULD BE BLAMING THEM INSTEAD OF BUSH/McCAIN/PALIN FOR THE F-UPs AND WE'd BE ON OUR WAY TO AN OVERWHELMING LANDSLIDE (such as in 1980 and '84).
WELCOME HOME GEORGE! BBQ waitin for ya!
I can imagine.
“I not to be disagreeable, sir, but to vehemently disagree, GWB has really never taken a stand on anything...he’s only reacted when he’s been painted into a corner and that has been what has made him unpopular”.
B.S., GW took a stand on Iraq, Terrorism, Christian Values,
Abortion, Education, and too many more to count.
He did what he said, that what counts as takinf a stand, maybe its not what your stand for, but is what I voted for!
I voted for, gave money to, and WORKED for George W Bush, so DO NOT DARE call me a Bush-basher. What is this, communist Russia, where you are not allowed to voice dissent?
