U.S. Army troops to serve as U.S. policemen?
Smallgovtimes.com ^ | October 1, 2008 | Chuck Baldwin

According to the Army Times (dated Tuesday, September 30, 2008), “Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT [Brigade Combat Team] will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.”

The article continued by saying, “But this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities.

“After 1st BCT finishes its dwell-time mission, expectations are that another, as yet unnamed, active-duty brigade will take over and that the mission will be a permanent one.”

The Times column also reported that the Army brigade “may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control . . .” It seems that the Army’s new domestic duties also include “traffic control” as well as subduing “unruly or dangerous individuals.”

Has anyone else heard about this? I know this sounds a little "tin foil hat"-like, and who knows if the rumor about the plastic caskets and prison cells is true, but I sure don't remember the signing statement basically removing Posse Comitatus. Look out for the black helicopters /sarc/ :)

This is from a real article in the Army Times (I think it was dated 9/8/08).
There is more background in FR.

Could this be in preparation for the riots when Senator Obama loses? Or when he wins? There will almost certainly be riots in any case.

This is nothing new. The Army has always been available to do domestic operations in support of law enforcement. They can't, absent explicit Congressional authorization, engage in direct law-enforcement, but they aren't obligated to stay in the gates in a civil emergency.

Hey, did you not read what Obama’s (so called cousin) Raila Odingo did in Kenya, Africa in Dec 07 when he lost the President election there. Over 1600 people died in ethnic cleansing, and Kofi Annan of the UN had to broker a deal, which took weeks of bloodshed, with the new President to give Odingo 1/2 power making him Prime Minister, and 1/2 cabinet.
Now that said, it has been BUSH who has kept the terrorist out of America, because he has kahunas to kill them. If Obama wins there could be terrorism, he’s weak, and if McCain wins there could be bloodshed from left...riots in streets have happened for less in U.S. Remember those BLT churches who teach racism against whites.

Or does our government suspect terrorist attacks on our soil very soon? Is this in preparation for possible attacks? Heightened preparation because of the presidential election?

There is a lot of training going on,and planning being done, for the “Great Flu Pandemic” .I fully expect some would-be tyrants to try using this as a way of finally dismantling the Constitutional Republic. I know the planning for the flu pandemic response includes law enforcement response to civil disobedience. Somehow,I don’t think that civil disobedience is going to be people fighting to GET the shots;more likely,it will be people refusing government mandated injections and forced relocation. FEMA is not freedom or 2nd admendment friendly.Remember New Orleans!

It's on Army Times' own website. Check it out here: http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/09/army_homeland_090708w/

Sorry. I don't know the html for making a link. I'm technologically impaired.

In this case we hope they aren’t needed, but this election is volatile, and if you look at hate and spewing snakes in left media who have planted seeds of dissension for past several years anything is possible.

They are getting ready for the grass roots revolution against the fascist governing bodies. LOL. Hide your weapons and mind your manners.

“U.S. Army troops to serve as U.S. policemen?”

That’s called “martial law.” We’ve used it before, but only in extraordinary circumstances. I’m sure they wouldn’t be deployed without some sudden emergency. Personally, having troops waiting in the wings for a disaster to happen is a waste of money. We can fend for ourselves, for the most part.

I have thought about a pandemic for a long time (bird flu, sars, etc.).

The Great Depression was not only financial, but worsened by the “natural” (partly poor farming practices) disaster of the weather and crop failures. God help us if the current financial crisis is still upon us when a pandemic hits.

Careful, they may have been UFOs piloted by the reptilians who are actually in charge.

We frequently use the military, I know that we have done it in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

The 101st and the 82nd seem to be popular for domestic disturbances.
