Sarah Palin disagrees with McCain camp's decision to abandon Michigan
New York Daily News ^ | October 3rd 2008 | RICHARD SISK

Posted on 10/04/2008 4:41:08 AM PDT by IbJensen

(GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin smiles at supporters as she steps off the campaign plane in Dalls on Friday - though she says she might've been happier to stump in another 'Big D:' Detroit.)

WASHINGTON - Sarah Palin is a little bit annoyed with John McCain, you betcha, and she isn't afraid to say so.

What set her off was the campaign's decision Thursday to wave the white flag of surrender in Michigan, and not bother to tell her. Palin said she found out Friday.

"I want to get back to Michigan and I want to try," Palin told Fox News. "I fired off a quick e-mail and said, 'Oh, come on, you know, do we have to? Do we have to call it there?'"

Palin said she and her husband, Todd, were willing to go back and work the state, where the GOP ticket trails by seven or eight points in most polls. The McCain campaign decided to pull down its advertising and move staff elsewhere.

I admire her spunk. McCain operatives need to let her go to Michigan. Sarah and Todd speak MY language. I was born and raised in Ohio. I live in Minnesota now. ........I love Minnesota, but I MISS Ohio.

Go, Sarah, Go!

I'd like to see Governor Palin do it. She should schedule quite a few speeches and visits in Michigan, not so many that she neglects the other swing states but enough that she stays in their news cycle and gives the Michigan voters a reason to vote thoughtfully.

Go, Sarah, Go!

McCain's Only Shot

You never bluff and EXPECT to win. You can only HOPE to win unless you are willing to follow-through to the end. McCain did not have the intentinal fortitude, perhaps because he such a RINO deep down, to carry through with the actions and strategies that were dictated by the orignal announcement that he was suspending his nomination.

McCain was not willing to make Barry and the dummies pay for playing the crisis like business as usual. So therefore it was a bluff - a stunt - and it backfired.

Now, his only chance is to get aggressive in the debates and the stump and spend 100% of his ad buys on negative advertising defining Barry as a radical liberal.

Just one play left John. Do you have the huevos to play it all the way?

Whomever is running Sen. McCain’s campaign is wrong.

IF the decision was to “abandon” Michigan it is wrong
because it HURTS lower GOP races. Stupid.

And it would have been quite stupid to publicize it
since it shows weakness.

Give Sarah & Todd the bus for a few days of whistle-stops in Michigan. I'd bet there's enough Palin-love in Michigan that the word would go out via phone-bankers and the net, and you wouldn't need a lot of high-end ads and glitzy organizing.

Bonus: Also a good way to show that she DOES have a common-sense influence on McCain!

Money could be playing a big part in the decision.

The McCain machine is running short of cash and they might have to pick their stops wisely.

Still - why visit a place you are strong in unless it is expected you would be cordial - but if you are running out of money - why not pick the places you need more votes in??

I don’t understand politics - I should shut up right now!

Speaking of which, by now the Presidential campaign machine should have already worked its way through job applications for top level jobs.

This is how you get bad appointees like Jim Webb ~ if they DIDN'T WORK THEIR WAY THROUGH.

That happened with RR came to office. The party machinery people were lax ~ didn't think he'd win ~ so it wouldn't be prudent to do all that work for nothing.

Then RR won in a landslide and there were turkeys in the pile and no turkey shooters ~ just standard party hacks.

Wonder what the McCain people have been doing in this regard? Probably nothing.

Clearly, you understand the situation. The RINOs know they have everything to lose if Sara continues to score big with the AMerican people. So, they are going to do whatever is necessary to make Sarah look bad, regardless of whether McCain wins or loses. If he wins, they want to be able to say that it was despite Sarah. If he loses they will say it was because of Sarah. They know that if she comes out smelling like the American Beauty Rose she is, the good old boys will be gone old boys.

Thank God, Sarah’s “Seventh Sense” (my term for those the Holy Spirit guides, guards, and girds) have told her what the RINOs are up to. And she has clearly decided to stake her own claim.

It is almost as if she were applying the Reagan Doctrine to domestic politics. She doesn’t want to contain Obamunism — she intends to roll it back! Thank God.

A replay of one of yesterday’s Fox News programs said they were hurting. They were comparing BO’s available funding and McCain’s. One of the talking heads said they probably skipped Michigan “to save money” - I might have made the wrong assumption if it was meant to mean it wasn’t worth the stop.

I thought they wouldn’t put something like that up unless it was real.

Why does the McCain camp even have to publicize this. I live in Michigan (Macomb County) and I always believed the the majority of the residents of this state live their lives as conservatives. Yet , many vote Democrat only because it’s in their family tradition and they don’t take time to understand the long term damage that liberalism has done to them and this state. I’ve worked in a union shop for the past 18 years (and in the UAW the previous 18 years). When I started there, almost every employee claimed to be a Democrat. Armed with tons of information and knowledge, I’ve been able to convert almost the entire shop (with the exception of a couple hard core union officers) to the conservative side. I’ve been branded a troublemaker by the union but our employer has seen an exponential improvement in work quality and productivity (and attitude). I never quit pounding the message, which is why McCain is making a big mistake. We can’t do it alone.

I wonder sometimes those that are handling Palin are from a different planet.

Don't they get she and Todd are the Secret Weapons especially in Michigan?

Look, Here is how I would play it. Send her here for a week or two. Coffee houses, Chamber of Commerce Rubber Chicken Dinners, Surprise visits to Union Halls. Meet and greets outside of churches when they let out, and Mall walks even. Not to mention live in studios with Paul W. Smith, and all the TV shows in the Detroit Burbs but live only .

But Todd is an even bigger weapon than they know. Snowmobiler, Hunter, Union man that rides a Bike.

Hello RNC.....

Do you think he can connect with the guys on the line?

Look, here is a guy that could Give UAW types powerpoint presentations about how Drilling in ANWR can feed the cars you make in Detroit.

I can figure this out why can't the handlers?

The lack of common sense is staggering....

This might be an over simplified question, but I’ve been thinking about Michigan a lot lately. What’s wrong with them?

Why are they so liberal and with the problems within their state, can’t they see liberalism doesn’t work or even help matters? Why wouldn’t they try something different for a CHANGE? I don’t understand their mindset.

You don't have to publicize it for people to know. They know as soon as you cut down or stop your ad buys and scheduled visits.

For the rest of the campaign it would help a lot to just have Palin criss cross the states McCain must have to win, like VA and CO. If she can hit some long shots like MI and PA, good.

Despite what the polls say now, I feel confident McCain will win FL, OH and MO.

None, but I did stay in at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I call them as I see them especially living in MI, and I do not apologize for it.

Last night while leaving a sports venue one of the down-river moms I know a big dem, mocking kept saying "Barack Hussien Obama" and kept repeating the Hussien. Another mom lamented to bad it is a blue state, and she hates that aspect of it and is resigned to a McCain defeat and hopes for Sarah 2012.

Spoke with an auto engr friend of mine, the white collar types are more conservative, but he notes this election cycle a noteable lack of conversation about Obama.

IMHO MI is ripe for the picking, shame on the RNC for not going for it.

Make it about GUNS and the right to keep them and we can win. I am afraid that Chuck the Nob Yob is too old to be able to put this together so we need to do it. Anyone know TED?

They need to employ the same surge strategy McCain likes to talk about that worked so well in Iraq. Make a nice big sweep through ALL the battleground/toss-up states—Palin then McCain (or vice-versa), take over a hostile community, establish some good relations, and work at spreading your message (with other high-level party folks—Guiliani, Romney, heck throw Congressman Pence in there).

McCain says how he is so doggedly determined to fight on in Iraq—his own campaign suggests symbolically that he would do otherwise.

Funny you should mention VA. Obama will be in the Hampton Roads area today, (again). Neither McCain or Palin has bothered to show up. This is the Obama /Biden's teams fifth visit in this area of the state. Notice I said area. Not the state as a whole , just in this area.

You can't just show up in Northern VA/ DC area and expect to win the state.

Every Friday, George Allen , ( former VA Governor and Senator), calls in to a local sports radio show and chats politics and sports with the host.

Allen says he gives the McCain camp hints that they should show up in Hampton Roads, yet it falls on deaf ears.

Virginia Beach is the largest city in the state, why bother to show up? /s

Years ago I lived in Michigan and went to college there.

You could go downtown Detroit, shop, have dinner and go to a baseball game without worrying about becoming a victim. Today Detroit is a jungle.

Perhaps Michigan has fallen into liberal disrepute due to the expansion of the various major campuses like U of M, or on the enemy of polite civilization which would be the MSM, like the Detroit 'Free' Press, et al.

At any rate the populace seems to have taken the bait, hook line and sinker.

The senators are fatuous socialist bastards, the governor is a complete idiot and most of the so-called 'conservative' representatives have ACU records of under 50%. The Democrats are in the basement.

The economy has tanked to the level where it can never recover because the main industry is socialist academia.

I'll go you one further... it's a complete waste of time for a Republican to even show up in NoVA. Heck, even a RINO like Tom Davis's wife couldn't get re-elected and I wonder if Tom Davis ran again if he could get re-elected. NoVA has fallen and if the GOP doesn't firm up the base down south VA will be a solid blue state for decades to come. We've already lost the U.S. Senate, State Senate, Governorship, and I suspect the VA House will be falling soon as well.

In this case Obama is dead-on. This is where races are won and lost in VA. Judging from how McCain is running his campaign I think his strategists much have tin heads or are tying to lose. Very odd since the National McCain HQ is in VA. You'd think they'd know this state better.
