A woman was refused the "morning-after pill" by a supermarket's duty pharmacist because it was against his religious beliefs.
Ruth Johnson, 33, who has two children, including a month-old baby, had not been using her usual method of contraception with her fiancée.
She went to the Tesco dispensary in Hewitts Circus, Cleethorpes, Lincs, and asked an as assistant for the pill Levanelle.
Miss Johnson was told it could only be dispensed by the locum pharmacist who was called to speak with her.
She said: "He came out from behind a screen and told me that he would not be allowing me to buy the pill from him because he had a right to refuse to sell it on the basis of his personal beliefs.
"The pharmacist was of Asian origin so I asked him if it was because of his religion and he replied 'Yes'."
Miss Johnson, from Cleethorpes, was left feeling ashamed and worried and complained to the store manager who told her they couldn't force the pharmacist to sell the product.
She said: "I asked him if a Jewish or Muslim checkout operator could refuse to sell pork or alcohol or if a Jehovah's Witness could refuse to sell birthday and Christmas cards."
Her concern is that the policy could deter teenage girls from seeking the morning-after pill.

“You have a good point about the store owner being free to hire another Pharmacist, but he is still volunteering to provide a government regulated product under license from the govt. If the Govt didnt restrict drugs, and allowed them to be sold like food, I would actually agree with you.”
Practically everything is regulated by govt. The baby crib, the toothpaste imported from China, the irradiated lettuce. What you’re doing is introducing a loophole to bring on even more govt involvement that would affect every single store.
Forget about abortion for now. If that pharmacist refused to sell some other pill like an aspirin, is that really a concern of govt? Just go to another pharmacy or complain to the owner!
I don’t oppose contraceptives, not at all.
I oppose the pill, which is in fact an abortifacient.
I believe that anything that kills an implanted embryo is an abortionm and I am pro-life.

If you’re going to use a rhetorical arguments, you have to have something that makes sense. I can’t even imagine a scenario like the one your postulate, so if you hope to win this debate with anyone, find something else (I’m just trying to be helpful).
If you think a baby (fetus of course is the term used to dehumanize) is simply a burden (much like a parasite) there’s nothing I can say that will dissuade you. If you think single teens who have babies are saints, I have to wonder what your definition of saint is (since you’re not using the church’s definition, I think we can both agree!)
Lastly, dogs. Well, I happen to be heavily involved in dogs (not german shepherds, altho we had one when I was growing up, and yes, she was a great family member). I have trained, I have raised, and I understand that dogs can even seem like people. But, I know the difference. BTW they are NOT totally selfless. They just see us as their boss and their nature is to please us because that’s what their instincts tell them to do. Dogs are dogs, no matter how much we love them. What you call a fetus is a person.
lol, if bitterly so
We are more than the product of our environment and upbringing.
Now, be about your business.
Those who wish death on others cannot relate to their intended victims. Even when you describe them being in exactly the same situation as their intended victims, they can’t see any similarities. They fully expect to be exempt from their own policies, and can see no contradiction in that. It’s pointless to try to explain it to them. They’re incapable of understanding.
Well, that’s true of course. They’re in predator mode (eating babies and the elderly) and simply cannot get back into human mode.
Can you see how Plan B is not *exactly* the same?
