Sad state when we allow GERMANY to dictate how we use our military forces DOMESTICALLY!

What in the hell are you freaking talking about?

They should put the guys on the border. But, that’s not the Govt’s agenda is it?

The unit is based at Ft Stewart because that's where it is stationed. The troops aren't deployed anywhere.

Obviously they are getting ready for something… given that Germany is doing this to I doubt it has anything to do with Obama.

The busiest business in the USA of late is your local gun shop. Check it out. The people are preparing for the worst. Folks, its going to get bad. The social engineering of our financial markets, the political correctness that keeps us from speaking our minds, the stupidity of the “man made global warming BS” that has drove commerce out of this country and sent trillions of dollars to buy foreign oil, the cheer-leading the MSM and the Democrat party has done to help our enemies. All of these things have come home to roast to use a phrase the nest Presidents preacher likes to use.

From what I understand, the unit has the capability to respond to nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare attacks. It takes special training and equipment to operate in a contaminated environment. Most cities and states can’t afford to stand up a team of people with all the necessary equipment to deconaminated a large area. It makes sense to have a single team that can deploy to any place in the US to respond to a domestic terrorist attack. If there was any chance at all that an attack like this was going to occur, it would be prudent to prepare for it.

‘The plan is drawing skepticism from some observers who are concerned that the unit has been training with equipment generally used in law enforcement, including beanbag bullets, Tasers, spike strips and roadblocks.’

Not exactly NBC preparation.

Hey... doncha know?

Obama caused global warming.
Obama caused the stock market meltdown.
Obama caused the bird flu.

Obama would be lucky if he could organize a local basketball group.

He doesn’t have the power or smarts to cause the kinds of things happening with Wall Street, etc.

"We need a lot more in our toolbox in order to deal with angry people on the street," said Col. Barry Johnson of U.S. Army North.

Gee.....I wonder what the Army knows that we don't know?

With all due respect, if the terrorists can get one nuclear device, they will get several. One unit will not be enough.

Like others on this board, I think that is only an excuse. I worry about the implications that this force can/will be used to control the population —and that is never a good thing in a democracy.

Here in WA we have one of the largest Army bases, Fort Lewis. They've deployed many times for forest fires, and I recall them being called in to help with perimeter security after St. Helens erupted. Nothing illegal about that.

Regular military are prevented from doing ordinary law enforcement, but during declared "states of emergency" and at the request of the state Governor, they can legally be called in to back up local officials in with logistics, search & rescue, and I suppose some security and other tasks if they were needed.

Pick up a book on American history and go back to BEFORE the American revolution.

Having standing military forces stationed in the British colonies or even among the British people in Britain was an anthema. It provides the government with a dangerous sword to use against us.

I have no doubt this would not be an issue with Bush. But it sets a PRECEDENT. Government operates by precedent. How would you feel if OBAMA was controlling those troops? SUppose Obama was president. Suppose he decide that in the interest of National Security and suppressing terrorism the American Military was to be proactive in disarming “terrorists”?

Back in the 1960’s the National Guard was called oout quite rapidly to effectively deal with rioting and today I am sure that we are even more efficient. We don’t want regular activated U.S. military units stationed in America ready to be used against America citizens, ESPECIALLY when an Obama Presdiency is looming. I am more than capable of handling my own defense against small groups of rioters - believe me, and if you are a conservative, you should be too.

Am I missing something here?

The Gannett publication Army Times which issued a correction to this erroneous statement of pulling law enforcement type duties in the US. The second paragraph below was added to the original article.

Which really doesn’t matter because the first story is the one that gets regurgitated across the net by black helicopter types.

The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded,” 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.

The package is for use only in war-zone operations, not for any domestic purpose.

Depends on where you where. The Mighigan NG could not handle the riots in Detroit in 1967. LBJ sent in the 82nd Airborne and things settled down quickly.

That’s fine with me. I just don’t want military forces deployed all over the American heartland with Barack HUSSEIN sitting the White House.

I had assumed that the only way to justify this type of unit was if it could perform some type of duties that couldn't be performed by local authorities or state controlled National Guard. I wouldn't be concerned if the unit was trained for rescue and recovery operations, but it does concern me if they are preparing for "police" duties. It would be pretty unnerving to have the military performing "police actions" within the CONUS. Not only is is unconstitutional, it's bound to create more problems.
