SAN ANTONIO A convicted child molester who pushed for the Texas law that allowed him to be voluntarily castrated more than a decade ago may go back to prison for allegedly possessing sexually explicit material.
Authorities held a hearing Wednesday to determine whether to revoke Larry Don McQuay's supervised release. The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole was expected to decide in the next few days, said Michelle Lyons, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
McQuay, 44, who claimed to have molested hundreds of children, could be held in prison until 2016, the end of his original 20-year sentence on three counts of indecency with a child.
His request to be castrated led the Texas Legislature to make it available in 1997. At least three Texas inmates have undergone the surgery with hopes of curbing sexual desire, though medical professionals are unsure of its effectiveness.

I wonder what the big deal is about him having porn? So long as it’s not kiddie porn where is the harm?
It’s not like he’s even having rangi-ruru with a real person.
What’s he supposed to do? Become a monk or something?
‘Strewth.

Nah - but since he was a child molester, I’d say he should be dead.

I have a 13 year old cocker spaniel that has been fixed since a pup and he still goes through the motions with the big yellow female hound.

I wonder what the big deal is about him having porn? you're joking, right?
Whats he supposed to do? Become a monk or something?
That would be excellent. Add about a lifetime of penance and you've got a great solution!

My question is this... why is this scum bag even alive right now for this to be an issue? My thoughts exactly. It sounds like he was given parole/probation provided he did not read porn. I don't get it.

Possessing the material would be a violation of McQuay's release terms. Lyons did not say whether the material was child pornography, or how McQuay is alleged to have acquired the material.

"Whats he supposed to do? Become a monk or something?"
My only concern is that maybe his motivation to molest "hundreds of children" in the past wasn't actually a sexual thing as much as a power thing. If they released him early because he was castrated and the castration didn't effect his deviant behavior, then they released him early for no reason. They were duped. Why would he have porn if he can no longer do the deed? Because it's a mental thing and he's still got predatory instincts. They didn't agree to castration as a punishment, but as a treatment, a remedy. Should've given him a lobotomy instead, sounds like to me.

let me guess: repeat offenders in this sex category get another part of their body chopped off — their tongues?

OK, correct me if I'm wrong here, but wouldn't a castrated man having pornographic material be about the equivalent to an armless man possessing gloves?

No. Technically, castrated men can still be sexually capable. I don’t know what the legislature was thinking when they agreed to this.

Indeed. This was found out by some powerful men in olden times when certain eunuchs (but not all) taking care of their harems would sample the goods.

I think the confusion is over the definition of castration. The castrated retains a penis.
