Noam Chomsky: "If I were in a swing state, I'd vote for Obama"

Noam Chomsky: "If I were in a swing state, I'd vote for Obama"

In this Der Spiegel interview with Noam Chomsky, this exchange piqued my interest:

SPIEGEL: Is there nothing about McCain that appeals to you?

Chomsky: In one aspect he is more honest than his opponent. He explicitly states that this election is not about issues but about personalities. The Democrats are not quite as honest even though they see it the same way.

SPIEGEL: So for you, Republicans and Democrats represent just slight variations of the same political platform?

Chomsky: Of course there are differences, but they are not fundamental. Nobody should have any illusions. The United States has essentially a one-party system and the ruling party is the business party.

Since Chomsky didn't come out and say that he supported either of the candidates (something I would expect) I thought I'd ask him a few follow-up questions. Here they are, with his answers:

Peter Jaworski: Do you support a political party, or any particular individuals running for office?

Noam Chomsky: If I were in a swing state, I'd vote for Obama, reluctantly and without illusions, only because I think that McCain-Palin and the constituency they represent are extremely dangerous -- in fact, there's a proto-fascist character, a term I don't use lightly.

PJ: What do you make of identity politics in this election? Barack Obama and Sarah Palin (as well as Hilary Clinton) have made this election much less about policies and much more about identifying with someone because of their skin colour or gender. Is it worrying or a good thing?

Get your reservations in early for the re-education camp of your choice.

"Get your reservations in early for the re-education camp of your choice."

I have a better idea. Let's just out vote these morons and send them back to the footnotes of history.

This guy is an absolute idiot.

He would vote for Obama REGARDLESS of the state. He describes himself as a “libertarian socialist’, which makes him a self-described oxymoron, or, put more simply, just a “moron.”

Noam Chomsky: "If I were in a swing state, I'd vote for Obama"

The hell you say.

Let me guess. If you were a bear, you'd brush your teeth in the woods.

Phffft. Gnome will vote for Obama in multiple states, and has probably never set foot in a state that is even remotely in play.

"If I were in a swing state, I'd vote for Obama"

ROTFLMAO!

Well, I'll just have to check and see if Minnesota is a swing state or not before I make up my mind Noam.

Thanks for the input.

Chomsky Bombsky! What else is new?

Listening to the lives of Obama and McCain today on FOX News, and I am impressed that John McCain is honest in admitting where he has been wrong in his life, and I am dismayed, but not surprised, that Obama is not.

Just so the reading population know Chomsky is a Marxist. But sadly, that would likely make little difference to the average brain-dead Obama supporter.

I don't use that term lightly either, Noam. So I'll unreservedly call Obama's Thugocracy fascist.

Chomsky is one of the best linguists of our time and yet...he is as dumb as a sack of rocks when it comes to other things. I’m even a fan Chomskian linguistic theory...but damn.

Just another example of highly educated intellectuals without a lick of common sense.

In keeping with the longstanding Democrat tradition of politically active corpses...Donald DeFreeze has also publicly given his support to Obama.

Fascist? Republicans want freedom and responsibility NOT government control! Democrats/socialists want government control which is fascism. Chomsky is a CHUMP!
