Kerry Gains in Key States, Poll Finds
October 13, 2004 in print edition A-24
Sen. John F. Kerry has improved his standing over President Bush in four Midwestern battleground states where domestic concerns of healthcare and the economy have overtaken the issues of terrorism and Iraq, a new Chicago Tribune poll shows.
In Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin among the most contested states in the final three weeks of the campaign the presidents approval rating is below 50%, historically a warning sign for an incumbent.
Though a slim majority of likely voters in each of the four states say they are dissatisfied with Bushs handling of Iraq and the economy, they still find him to be a strong leader who can better protect the nation from a terrorist strike.
As the candidates prepare for their final face-to-face encounter in a debate tonight in Tempe, Ariz., voters say they believe Kerry would be more likely than Bush to restore jobs and boost the economy.
The separate, state-by-state polls found Kerry to hold slim leads over Bush in Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota, while Bush maintained a narrow advantage in Iowa. But the findings of the surveys, which questioned 500 likely voters in each state, fall within a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

All these Kerry posts are confusing the Kos Kiddies and DUmmies who are lurking on this board. They’ll be running back to their RATS nests to find out what happened to “The One” and why Kerry has taken his place.
Well, that’s it, I’m voting for Kerry.
I love these "polls in hindsight" posts.
Wonder how bad Reagan was losing at this point?? You would think PravdABDNC would try a new trick?
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops
The comparable numbers in 2004:
Rasmussen | 10/7-10/13 Bush +2
Strategic Vision* | 10/9-10/11 Bush +8
Chicago Tribune | 10/8-10/11 Kerry +4
ARG | 10/4-10/6 Kerry +1
SurveyUSA | 10/2-10/4 Kerry +1
Bush is an idiot. He is acting like he doesnt even want to win!
He better start hammering stuff home, or it’s game over!
Heck it might already be too little too late!
FIRE ROVE!
REPLACE CHENEY!!!!!!
NOT GOOD
NOT GOOD
NOT GOOD
SAY HELLO TO PRESIDENT KERRY!!!!!
Yes, someone or some group outside of the MSM needs to research the true influence of these push polls leading up to the presidential elections. They seem to have a very low success rate for their MSM sponsors.
I just heard that Kerry was in Viet Nam. Is that true?!
Thank you for posting these. Reminds us that the Media will LIe, LIE, LIE, lie, lie, lie to make their loser look like a winner.
“Thou shalt not bear false witness!”
Doesn’t Kerry have a plan?
Sure helps with all the panicking chicken littles or Obama shills here.
That’s it, Bush is going to lose re-election. Things are not looking good for the Red Sox either. They’ll never win the World Series.
Ping...
Does anyone know the party ID breakdown overall for the country as a whole in 1974 & 1976? Those would be good years to reference since they represent the nadir of the Republican party in recent history.
They didn’t do polling every day during the 1980 election...no daily tracking polls....
Here is what I found though...
In an Oct. 24-26 Gallup Poll, Carter led Reagan by 3 percentage points, 45% to 42%, among national registered voters. A post-debate registered voter trial-heat figure is not available in Gallup’s published records, but in Gallup’s final pre-election poll of “likely voters,” conducted Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, Reagan led Carter by 3 points, 46% to 43%.
What’s really bad is that John Kerry is more conservative compared to Barack Obama!
Polls from last century wouldnt have any meaning in this election. Now, if your a historian, Id say try Google.
Thanks Chet!
