Barack Obama has Little History of 'Reaching Out Across the Aisle'

The mantra from Obama's supporters -- as well as the candidate himself -- is that he is the one candidate most likely to "reach out across the aisle to get things done." Unfortunately for the junior Senator from Illinois, there is no real history of him doing so. On the other hand, John McCain has done so repeatedly during his Senate career. But, let us focus here on Barack Obama's claims.

The last time Obama made this claim was in an August campaign ad on what he claims are his efforts to secure loose nukes around the world. In this ad, Obama claimed that he "passed a law to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists." Also in that ad he claims to have reached across the aisle to work with Republican Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) to do so and is pictured with Lugar. He is also depicted in the ad as visiting Ukraine and viewing ordnance of all sorts strewn carelessly about. It would appear from the ad that this legislation was Obama's idea and that Lugar was but a helper in it all.

It is true that in 2005 Lugar and Obama wrote an op-ed (read their staff wrote it and they put their names on it) about the legislation they sponsored to coordinate efforts with other nations to reduce weapon stockpiles and smuggling. The measure was later passed as part of a larger bill. But the ad misleads on Obama’s hand in that legislation.

In the ad Obama speaks of his work on the bill. “The single most important national security threat we face is the threat of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists. What I did was reach out to Senator Dick Lugar, Republican, to help lock down loose nuclear weapons,” Obama says in the ad...

By 'Little' I assume he means none.

The jackass is complaining that the bailout gives money to the banks and he wants to give money to the people.

Does he not understand the purpose of banks or is he deliberately lying to his ignorant supporters.

Money to the banks means money for all of us. We live on credit for all sorts of things.

Homes, cars, building materials for construction, etc.

Those that expect Baraq Hussein mohammed 0bama to “reach across the aisle” may be surprised that he’ll do it only to smack them up side the head! He has no history of doing it, and no intention of doing it!

If the election goes as the media says in their polls there will not be a requirement to reach over the aisle. The left radicals will have taken over and our nation will be gone had been a great time for us and the world but the following years will be back to dictatorships and burning of the Constitution.

Shakespeare's ". . . what's past is prologue. . . ." appearing on the National Archives Building may be apropos here.

On the questions of

- life

- taxes

- gun rights

- protecting troops and America, and all other issues,

why not list and use each candidate's past votes as the best indicator of their future actions?

Words are cheap and easy.

Past actions are prologue to likely future behavior!

Let’s face it, this turd is not the Messiah. He is more like the antichrist. He should be nowhere near the presidency.

Didn't Senator 0bama recently say that bipartisanship was overrated or something, and that with Congressional majorities he wouldn't need to be bipartisan?

In the last 2 years, Republicans comprised only 13% of O’Bombers co-sponsors. Dems comprised 55% of McCain’s. McCain is for greater diversity.

Not surprisingly, none of O’Bomber’s sponsored legislation has ever made it into law.

Statements I do not want to hear spoken by McCain during tonight's final debate:

“I reach across the aisle”...YADA, YADA, YADA.
“my friend”...WHATEVER
“I will fight for you”...AND WHAT VOTES WILL THAT GET YOU?
“Barack is an honorable family man”...OH PLEASE!
“He” when referencing Barry...STATE HIS FULL NAME!

BTW, John....Shout loudly that you are sick and tired of the liberals moving us towards socialism!!!

This is it. The stage is yours. Don't forget to bring your sack.

Yes, the Democrats are almost certain to have majorities in both the House and Senate. The only question is whether they will get up to the magic number of 60 in the Senate to be able to push through anything they want...even if they aren't quite at 60, they may get just about everything thanks to the RINOs.

In particular there is Obama's proclaimed intention of signing a "Freedom of Choice Act" making abortion on demand in all circumstances a basic right, sweeping away any victories the pro-life forces have won in the past few decades, including in the partial-birth-abortion area. There are enough liberal Republicans in the Senate who would refuse to support a filibuster if it came down to a few votes, and none of the supposedly pro-life Democrats in the Senate (Bob Casey, Jr., got elected on that pretense, and there may be others) will stand up to the party if their votes are needed.

The pro-life forces haven't really focussed attention on this freight train coming down the track if Obama is elected...a lot of nominally pro-life voters will probably vote for Obama because of his stand on the war, or because they are mad about the economy, without realizing how radical he will be on the abortion issue.

I recently saw Obama on the news saying something to the effect that people needed to get the Republicans to support the bail-out bail-out bill, but he wasn’t the guy because he can’t work with Republicans.

If anyone can find that clip (my preliminary search efforts have not yielded it), I think it would be a great service to post it here, or on its own thread.
