The behavior of the bonobos as "peaceful" was celebrated by ecologists in contrast with "aggresive" humans.

So they are more like us then we thought.
To: Nicholas Conradin
No surprise. We knew bonobos were smelly barefooted peacefreakin’ hippies. Given a little engineering they would be baby-killers and ecoterrorists.

Groups of the endangered chimpanzee subspecies were observed stalking, chasing, and killing monkeys they later consumed. ..sort of like the MSM when someone disagrees with "the agenda"

LOL... Not to be confused with the Cheetah Girls?
The 'Haight-Ashbury' image of free-loving bonobos has led to a piece of wishful thinking among nice people, who perhaps came of age in the 1960s -- or maybe they are of the 'medieval bestiary' school of thought, in which animals exist only to point moral lessons to us. The wishful thinking is that we are more closely related to bonobos than to common chimpanzees. The Margaret Mead in us feels closer to this gentle role-model than to the patriarchal, monkey-butchering chimpanzee. Unfortunately, however, like it or not, we are exactly equally close to both species.

The lefty hippie crowd were always going on about the bonobos and how their matriarchal society is better than our patriarchy. Nice to see them get their comeuppance.

The New Yorker had a huge article about these creatures a couple of years ago. Made ‘em out to be just like Democrats.

Has ACORN registered these bonobos to vote yet?

Maybe it’s just me but it wasn’t too many years ago that I found out chimps eat meat.
Up until that time everything I saw on TV, etc. showed them on a vegetarian diet with a few ants, grubs occasional egg.

Is a sub-species of Chimp. VERY endangered.
I saw a film (from San Diego Zoo perhaps?) some years ago that still makes me laugh when I think about it.
Is feeding time. Handlers throw in some leaf-bearing branches. A largish male grabs one and carries it off to the corner to eat. A female tries to grab some from him, he corrects her, she backs away. So she submissively crawls back, not trying to grab the food, lays down in front of him and spreads her legs. He looks down and immediately has sex with her. The expression on his face is priceless, eyes rolling back and all. They finish quickly and, while he’s sitting enjoying the after-glow, she picks up the branch and walks away.
It was the first example recorded, supposedly, of an animal using sex for other-than procreation.

One of the lib whackos who sit for months watching the apes, witnessed a chimp killing and eating its child. Was surprised they recorded it, since at the time, they were trying to tell us how wonderful the chimps were and how we should be like them.
