We recommend John McCain for president [Dallas Morning News endorsement]
The Dallas Morning News ^ | 2008-10-19

The United States is in crisis. The economy is melting down. Our military is at war on two fronts. Americans approach this election in understandable fear and anger, especially at the incumbent Republican president who, however unjustly, bears the brunt of the blame for the crisis.

Americans want change, yes, but banking on change alone is a risky proposition. Both Barack Obama and John McCain offer new deals to a tense, weary nation.

In better times, America could afford to consider entrusting the White House to an appealing newcomer like Mr. Obama and giving control of the presidency and Congress to the same party.

But in this time of great anxiety, the American people need a leader of experience guiding the ship of state. Mr. McCain offers the continuity, stability and sense of authority people want, as well as a decisive break from the Bush years.

The Democrat talks about change, but only the Republican has made change happen. Only one candidate has a solid record of standing up to his own party on principle and working hand in hand with legislators from the opposing party to get things done.

That candidate is John McCain, a progressive conservative we recommend.

Yawn. As if Texas were in play, and their votes mattered. As if this newspaper had guts and weren't jumping on the bandwagon, even if their endorsement is correct among the two major candidates.

If the paper were in Colorado or New Mexico, I'll wager it would be different.

Actually, I’m kind of suprised. The DMN has become so leftist that I don’t even bother reading the comics anymore.

If they are left-leaning, what does that say about their endorsement of McCain, then?

I love your brief interchange. And I’m a little surprised, too, but these newspapers are dying on the vine. I will just put it down to not wanting to offend the vast majority of their readers rather than to any integrity or principle.

As a matter of fact, that’s the second very liberal paper in a liberal town that has endorsed McCain today. I think it’s a good sign.

Most of the press is in bed with Obama, but maybe a few people are waking up and realizing that newspapers won’t do very well in a socialist country with a destroyed economy.

The bad economic news coming out of the media is nothing to what will happen if the economy collapses, and Obama is just the guy to do it.

No kidding.

He also got the endorsement today of our very liberal paper, the Columbus Dispatch. Very telling!!

It says there are at least one or two people at the DMN who realize what a disaster an Obama presidency would be for the country.

It is going to be tough for the North Dallas/Highland Park crowd to subscribe to the rag that is the DMN when Obama taxes their incomes and then gives the money to people in East Dallas.
