Dino Rossi for Governor (Seattle times endorsement)
Seattle Times ^ | 10/19/08 | Seattle Times

Posted on 10/20/2008 10:15:28 AM PDT by Samizdat

Sunday, October 19, 2008 - Page updated at 12:00 AM Dino Rossi for governor DINO Rossi should be elected governor Nov. 4 because he can best be trusted to erase the state's huge projected deficit without raising taxes. Under Gov. Christine Gregoire, state government during the good years built up a mass of programs, promises and public spending. Now the economy is in recession, and unless taxes are to be raised on people already struggling — a bad idea — state spending will have to be cut about 10 percent. To do that, the people need a governor who has a track record of budget reduction and is politically empowered to do it. That would be Rossi. In the last recession, in 2003, Republican state Sen. Rossi took a tough budget proposed by Democratic Gov. Gary Locke — a budget that legislators weren't sure Locke really believed in — and made it believable. OK, just for us not in the “know”. I assume this is a lib paper endorsing the Republican in a close race? Any updates on this race (including history of last election) appreciated!

If I remember correctly, Gov. Christine Gregoire was elected due to fairly blatant voter fraud and the Seattle Times did the “nothing to see here, move along” routine.

I’m not “in the know,” but I believe this is a rematch of the real stolen election, where Rossi was ahead on the first and second count, but on the third “count” he lost.

It was close all the way, but it’s amazing how recounts always add votes to the ‘Rats.

Good for the Times, it's surprising but they have been critical of Gregoire and her spending.

When Gregoire won, so did her donors

FYI: The Seattle Times endorsed Rossi during the last WA state gubernatorial race. It didn't help. ACORN turned out en masse. By the time the recounts were done, Greg-gore had more votes than there were voters.

No kidding! I'm glad I'm reading this at a distance. I would have fallen into my latte had I read it in Seattle. Now if they can only find all the Rossi ballots in King County!

Stopped clocks, blind pigs, yada yada... What took the Seattle Times so long?

Gregoire stole the election, pushed the highest tax hike in state history, and increased the state budget by 33% in ONE term? Why are ANY newspapers (Seattle P-I) still endorsing her? What does it take; having her murder someone on camera?

Well they did endorse Bush in 2000 and they endorse Mike McGavick for Senate in 2006. I’m pretty sure Rossi was their guy in 2004.

If I am not having a complete memory loss here, I believe in 2000, the Seattle Slimes endorsed Bush. Their entire editorial board was for Algore and threw a fit, but the owners of the paper at the time wanted Bush endorsed. I think it was the Slimes and not the other paper, the PI.

Dino will be in Puyallup this Wednesday evening at the Liberty Theater. There will be a dinner buffet. This is the annual meeting of the King-Pierce Farm Bureau. The cost is $35 per person for non members.
