We had an enthusiastic crowd this morning in Colorado Springs. I was able to get a VIP pass, so I was just a few yards from Mrs. Palin, who was in top form. Perhaps someone else who attended could provide a summary?

Damn, I have a ticket to see her in Fort Collins today but connot get away from work. I would love to meet her and her husband. I thought it was interesting that it was so easy to get a ticket, you could be with code pinko and they would still give you a ticket. I bet it’s not that easy with Biden in Greely next week.

I picked up my ticket for her Fort Collins appearance early Saturday, they said they had given away 15000 so far. Interesting because the arena she is at only sits 7 to 8 thousand for a hockey game.

Piper cracks me up, from giving Trig the old hand lick hair treatment at the convention, to getting right in between her mom and Biden at the debate. She is always giving the “perfect wave” to the crowd too, she is hilarious!

I used my new Nikon D40. I alternated between my 55-200VR lens and my 18-55 kit lens. Both lenses have UV filters on them. It’s the best cheap digital SLR around, in my opinion.

I should add that I used a fast shutter speed — that makes for a very narrow focal distance. In other words, with a fast shutter speed, I can get Sarah’s face in focus, and the crowd behind her out of focus. I think that’s called “bokeh.”

WOW...I just got home from the rally in Loveland...but my pictures don't look like yours! ;-(
We were in line for several hours so I took lots of pictures of the crowd, t shirts and signs.
I will do a report shortly.
Thanks again for those outstanding pictures!

I was standing in line with a party stalwart from Weld County and she had been told that they gave away 2000 tickets in Fort Collins. The radio said that the estimated crowd was 8000. I have a feeling that not everyone made it through security (only 4 metal detectors) in time to get in, though. The line was enormous!

It's not your shutter speed that affects depth of field, it's aperture. The camera adjusted aperture to compensate for fast shutter, lighting conditions and long lens which resulted in the photos you got. Now if you had your camera set for aperture priority, to adjust aperture to get better depth of field, the camera would adjust shutter speed accordingly.
Nice camera, but lots of settings to learn.
To: AFreeBird
Thanks for the info. Yes, I have a lot to learn about this camera. It’s a fairly “simple” camera compared with others, but to me it’s plenty complex. Good thing the camera knows more than I do about taking photos. :-)

Thank you for the wonderful pictures. I must have been near you judging from the angle.
I was puzzled why so many (and I do mean MANY) were shut outside the gates with so many empty seats in the stadium. I can only conclude it was for security concerns. Anybody know?
