Newark's Roman Catholic archbishop is upset part of Bill Maher's movie was filmed at Bergen County parish.
Maher set part of his documentary "Religulous," which mocks organized religion, in Our Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge.
A spokesman for Archbishop John Myers said the parish priest was aware of a policy that prohibits any commercial filming in churches.
But Jim Goodness said filmmakers told the Very Rev. Charles Grandstrand that Maher wanted to film his Jewish mother there because the church was such a big part of her life. Hi father was Catholic.
Maher grew up in nearby River Vale.
Maher has said he didn't tell people the movie would take its name from a combination of the words "religion" and "ridiculous." Instead, he told people it would be called, "A Spiritual Journey."
Bill Maher ... what possibly made the church think the outcome would be any different than it actually was? “Gee, we didn’t see that coming?”
What a creep Maher is. Very Rev probably means that the priest was an elderly monsignor who thought he was actually making a nice “ecumenical” gesture (since Maher claimed his mother was Jewish).
Is it any surprise that Maher lied? It’s the liberal way. And they don’t care if anyone knows.
The religulous among us would probably consider Maher a liar. To him it was merely the ends justifying the means.
Guy is so f’d up. We should pray for him .. that would tick him off good.

I can tell you that if Bill Maher walked up to me and spun me a tale of woe, I probably would believe him too.

Maher is probably tickled “pink” that he got the bishop upset. It’s just something else for him to make fun of.
They probably had no idea who he was.

Bill Maher is a seriously disturbed individual. And yes, we should pray for him - for real, and not just to “tick him off good” - although it probably would! LOL.
Who is surprised. The godless like Maher don’t live by the same code that we do. Lying is just a vehicle to arrive at their truth. A godless person can’t be trusted.

Bill Maher is one of the most VILE, EVIL PATHETIC people ever born......I feel so sorry for the Priest......no good deed goes unpunished.
I am with you ... Maher is so disturbed he really needs lots of prayers, which he would laugh at, but I always hold out hope that even the most ardent mockers of religion and people of faith can be saved.
Yeah. To deliberately use the goodness of others that way is really despicable.
I wonder if there is anyway that they can keep Maher from using those images.
