Senator Bingaman (D-NM) Comments on the Fairness Doctrine.
October 21, 2008
From the site: NEW MEXICO SENATOR JEFF BINGAMAN COMMENTS ON THE JIM VILLANUCCI SHOW ABOUT THE FAIRNESS DOCTORINE AND HOW IT COULD AFFECT YOUR LISTENING AT 770 KKOB.
At least their honest...
God what is this country coming to?
GET THIS TO LIMBAUGH ASAP!
Fairness Doctrine update!
more please - can’t do streaming in my office
This is disgusting. Censorship and Socialism march hand in hand....along with hatred and conceit.
“I think”, “I feel”, “It should be”; such liberal tripe.
Tell us WHY the Fairness Doctrine is right; not how you FEEL about it.
Revolution-worthy
I guess I turned him off to soon yesterday scary stuff.
Totalitarianism and socialism march hand in hand - they have to.
There is no such thing as “benign socialism”.
Wealth redistribution, punitive taxation on success, shutting up any opposing voices -— Welcome to ObamaWorld, land of no hope and less change in your pocket!
- Bingaman says he hopes Fairness Doctrine is re-imposed.
- He wants ‘balanced’ perspective in all points of view.
- Radio host tells him that there’s NPR, Air America, satellite radio, etc. with millions of viewpoints, and Bingaman says that radio and media should ‘have a higher calling’ and that it should not just reflect a particular point of view.
- Stations should have an informed discussion of the issues.
- Bingaman said that the airwaves are owned by private companies, and that’s the way it should be — but that the country is best served with the Fairness Doctrine and that the population was more intelligent when the Fairness Doctrine was used.
It should be shouted loud and to the corners of the country:
The left intends to silence any dissenting opinions,
BECAUSE THEIR IDEOLOGY IS INDEFENSIBLE.
Host says “you’d want this station to change?” He says in response to the host, “Yes I want this station and all stations to present a balanced perspective and different points of view instead of always hammering away at one political uh, uh....”
Host says “In this market for instance we’ve got KKOB, NPR, Air America, if you have satellite you have a “lefty” station and a “righty” station. Do you think there are people that aren’t able to find a viewpoint that’s in synch with what they believe?”
Bingaman says “Radio & media in general should have a HIGHER CALLING rather than just reflecting a particular point of view. They should use their authority and broadcast power to present an informed discussion of public issues. You know KKOB used to live under the fairness doctrine.” Host: “Yeah, we played music.”
Bingaman “Well there was a lot of talk it seemed to me.” blah blah about broadcast stations are privately owned.
“All I’m saying is for many, many years we operated under the fairness doctrine and we were well served. The discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since.” End.
...And the MORE likelyhood of a civil war.
Thank God that Chrissy Pissy will be off the air. I can’t wait until NBCCBSABCCNN programming is forced to be balanced.
If you want on or off the NM Ping list, please FReepmail me.
Access to the ping list is available to anyone by going to my FR home page.
All they will just do is drive conservitive talk to satilite, internet radio streaming and podcasting. The will still LOSE OUT BIG.
I worked in radio when the fairness doctrine was in force. This was before talk radio. The bottom line was we HAD to sell airtime to any candidate at the lowest price on the rate sheet.
So my question is: If I bought a 30 minute block and espoused conservatism the only thing the station would be required to do is sell a 30 minute block to a liberal. Am I right?
If I am, Rush could “buy” 3 hours of time from every station and pay them what they would have earned selling ads. He would collect all the money he makes selling ads. If the liberals wanta’ cough up the money the stations wouldn’t mind one bit.
Kudos for the summary! Kudos and thanks!
You don't understand -- to the bureaucrats that will be making decisions on what is balanced or unbalanced, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN are viewed as the balanced standard to which all other networks and programs should strive to emulate.
Jack
I’m not as worried about the practicality of silencing conservative dissent as I am about
THE DESIRE TO DO SO.
OK, you saying I should take tongue from cheek?
But that is the coming war, isn’t it?
if hussien wins the best thing the rats could do is follow through on this, follow through on gun control and follow through on federally funded abortions...the backlash from American’s will be swift and fierce against them....
sadly I’ve given up on hoping the majority of today’s GOPers will take the fight to the rats- the rats will have to implode and this is a way for it to happen....
Well in the 70’s when FM was taking off and their was nothing left to listen to on AM but a few AM morning drive shows and farm reports you could by a radio station for 25 cents on the dollar. This during the Fairness Doctrine.
Today after the repeal of this “Doctrine” in 1987 a whole new industry has grown to proportions never imagined at the time.
No wonder they hate it!
Rush is talking about this thread NOW.
Rush talking about this now.
If Obama wins socialism will be the least of our problems.
opps, by = buy, purchase.....
-!
They are fearful of SUCESS.
Thanks Rush for talking about this Senator. :)
Not exactly. It’s a directive that the station MUST be “balanced”, not that they have to provide the airwave. They can do that already.
Because there will be an angry backlash.
Did Rush just talk about this?
Rush has just pointed out there were 125 talk radio stations before Ronald Reagan had the old Fairness Doctrine repealed. Today there are more than 2,000. (Sorry, didn't catch the specific number on that).
The discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since.
Puleeze.
Their main weapons are massive voter fraud and propaganda supplied by their operatives in the Newsmedia, and one of their most effective tactics is to demoralize and discourage the opposition. Their strategy is to seize the Presidency for Obama and a supermajority in both houses of Congress, then to pack the Supreme Court and the rest of the judiciary.
If they succeed, they will silence dissent, pack the voter rolls, and establish radical changes in laws, via legislation and court decisions, that will assure them unlimited and endless power. They do not envision a socialist state. Their objective is the establishment of a communist police state on the model of contemporary China or the Soveit Union under Stalin. Dissent will be silenced, dissenters neutralized. Corruption will be rampant. The ruling oligarchy will live in splendor and luxury and will wield enormous power.
We must defeat the Democrats at the polls.
Many good citizens who have not declared themselves publicly will vote against the Democrats and the coup détat that they intend to stage. Many have been intimidated already into silence. The question is whether our votes will overcome the massive voter fraud that is underway.
We must refuse to be discouraged or demoralized, and we must work to prevent our fellow citizens from becoming discouraged and demoralized. Get out the vote! I think that we will succed in preventing them from achieving their objective, but we must be sure to defeat them--and by honest endeavors--at the polls.
Get out the vote.
Be sure to vote.
They are fearful of SUCESS.
Yeah, cause success breeds independence from government intervention.
Hey Jeff,
Divine destruction is headed your way. You have brought your judgment out of your own mouth.
“population was more intelligent when the Fairness Doctrine was used.”
In the same way that the government “knows better” than I what to do with my own money and that access to energy is “more efficient” when it is properly regulated by federal agencies and that my children will receive a “more well-rounded” education in public schools and individual pro-lifers are radical racketering organizations who will be “suitably handled” under federal RICO legislation.
This stuff is creepy and dark.
The second amendment and net neutrality is next on the agenda!
Better get your game on!
The problem with the fairness doctrine from the Bolshecrat stand point is that they, like the Bolsheviks of their namesake, think they are the majority and center, when the truth is they are firmly on the left. Democrats at some point could have laid claim to the center, but, they have long ago moved to the socialist while not telling the rank and file.
Indeed it is. In fact, the domestic left has been at war for 40 years with what most of us understand America is. What started out as a culture war is largely lost, as the left has taken over the educational and entertainment industries and the un-elected levels of governments, local, state and federal. B. Hussein Obama is the logical output of an educational system filled with a mix of union drones and outright Marxists.
Jack
Problem is is that half the people that hear “Fairness Doctrine” don’t even know what it means, but it probably sounds good to them.
The seeds of a new civil war.
I’ll be darned. Bingaman is a lib, sure, but he has usually seemed to be a fairly rational, decent one. Now, if Udall wins Pete’s seat, I’d expect full bore Marxism and Constitution shredding from him, but I must admit that this from JB surprises me.
“The seeds of a new civil war.”
Don’t know? I hate to think that.
I think, given that the Dems were to win, which I haven’t conceded; they will either implode, as you say, or they will attempt to fraudulently procure every coming election.
There would also be a commercial price to pay if a vaccuum were to be created in the AM market. There is a lot of dough that is exchanged over the airwaves.
These same Dems would be playing with fire and will get burned.
