RUSH: CNN is now even lying. And this is something, by the way, they need to apologize for -- although even if they do, yip yip yip yip yahoo. It's going to matter less. We're talking about here the reporter Drew Griffin and his recent interview with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Here was his question.
GRIFFIN: The National Review had a story saying that, you know, "I can't tell if Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, or all of the above."
PALIN: Who wrote that one?
GRIFFIN: That -- that was in the National Review.
PALIN: Who wrote it?
GRIFFIN: I don't have the author but they were --
PALIN: Who wrote it? I'd like to talk to that person.
GRIFFIN: But they were --
RUSH: All right, in the first place, nobody posted that at National Review. Byron York wrote it, but he said something quite different -- and it was posted someplace else. What Byron actually wrote was, "Watching press coverage of the Republican candidate for vice president, it's sometimes hard to decide whether Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward, or, well, all of the above." He was talking about the kind of press coverage that she has received. He was not describing her. Listen again. This is what he wrote: "Watching press coverage of the Republican candidate for VP, it's sometimes hard to decide whether Sarah Palin's incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward," or whatever else. Now, let's go back and listen, cut 19 again. Now that you know what Byron York wrote, listen to Drew Griffin make a mockery of journalism.

RUSH: So this is what the media has come to, and this is just one example. There are many others. "CNN reported yesterday incorrectly that the McCain Camp is ceding Colorado to ... Barack Obama. The report by CNN on the Colorado election was not true," and what made this "even more profoundly wrong was that CNN published this report and Sarah Palin was setting all-time attendance records in Grand Junction, Colorado: 22,000 supporters showed up to see her break a Grand Junction record. Todd Palin making four campaign stops in western Colorado and Denver." While all this is going on, the media -- CNN twice now -- tries to report that Republicans are criticizing Palin in National Review, which they're not; at least not as being described here by Drew Griffin at CNN.
Now they're trying to suppress the Colorado vote by saying that the McCain camp is ceding Colorado to Obama, and they have said the same thing about other places as well. So, you know, this is par for the course. It's what's been happening. It will continue to happen as this election continues to unfold.

A bit more on CNN’s “quote” from National Review in its story on Sarah Palin. In the CNN interview with Palin, aired today, reporter Drew Griffin said to Palin:
GRIFFIN: Governor, you’ve been mocked in the press, the press has been pretty hard on you, the Democrats have been pretty hard on you, but also some conservatives have been pretty hard on you as well. The National Review had a story saying that, you know, I can’t tell if Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt or all of the above.
PALIN: Who wrote that one?
GRIFFIN: That was in the National Review. I don’t have the author.
PALIN: I’d like to talk to that person.
GRIFFIN: But they were talking about the fact that your experience as governor is not getting out. Do you feel trapped in this campaign, that your message is not getting out, and if so who do you blame?
Actually, no one wrote the “quote” that Griffin read to Palin. But I began a recent magazine piece (unfortunately not available on the web, but hopefully coming soon) on Palin this way:
Watching press coverage of the Republican candidate for vice president, it’s sometimes hard to decide whether Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward, or — or, well, all of the above. Palin, the governor of Alaska, has faced more criticism than any vice-presidential candidate since 1988, when Democrats and the press tore into Dan Quayle. In fact, Palin may have it even worse than Quayle, since she’s taking flak not only from Democrats and the press but from some conservative opinion leaders as well.
After John McCain unexpectedly chose Palin as his running mate, reporters raced to Alaska to look into her family life, including her teenage daughter’s pregnancy; into her per diem expense requests; into her controversial firing of the state’s public-safety commissioner; into her husband’s role as informal adviser; into the gifts she received; and into much more. Those investigations have yielded hundreds of stories. But Palin’s time in the governor’s office hasn’t been all, or even mostly, family drama and minor controversy. She was also, lest we forget, the state’s chief executive. So, what did she do every day? How deeply involved was she in the workings of government? What were her priorities?
And also: Before Palin moved into the governor’s office, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 7,028. How did she adjust to a big new job? Was she up to it? What was her learning curve? Discovering how she made that transition could tell us how she might handle becoming vice president.
Yes, there are legitimate concerns about Palin’s lack of experience. Who wouldn’t, at the very least, wish that she had more time in the governor’s office on her résumé? But a look at Palin’s 20 months in power, along with interviews with people who worked with her, shows her to be a serious executive, a governor who picked important things to do and got them done — and who didn’t just stumble into an 80 percent job-approval rating.
So my question to Griffin, and perhaps to his producer, is: Do you think you accurately portrayed the story you cited in National Review?

Griffin’s life needs an anal scoping, so he will understand that he should never think about being a liar again. His life, from highschool to the present needs a thorough sweep.

I saw that interview and I didn’t trust that. It isn’t a surprise to find out it was false.
If CNN was the only channel available, I WOULDN’T NEED A TV.
There are High School newspapers with better reporters than those in CNN.
I unplugged my TV in March. It still is.

A National Review article by Byron York contrasts the media portrayal with the reality, and CNN ‘Gibson quotes’ the media portrayal portion as an actual quote.

Did you see Griffin’s facial expressions and body language? He looked like a little school kid, trying to get over on his skeptical teacher. I sense that he knew damn well that he was lying, but hey, the lefty press (is that redundant) believes that helping to elect The One is doing God’s work.

I never watch CNN anyway, but if anyone has an email address we can contact them at, I’d love to let them know how much this pisses me off. Hats off to Greta van Sustern for blowing the whistle on her old employer and disclosing this nasty sneak attack by Drew Griffin. It’s the lowest form of trick, certainly fails to rise to even the National Enquirer-level of journalism.
No wonder 91% of respondents to the Gretawire poll voted it to be “Dirty” rather than merely “Incompetent”.
Such are the options when evaluating CNN’s tactics.

O’Reilly had Byron York on tonite as you know and Mr. York wasn’t surprised he was taken out of context. CNN goes down as an honest reportage once again . Nobody here at FR is surprised but the attacks on Palin need to be addressed everywhere. When the media is dishonest there is no watch-dog except for FR.

palin should realize by now, that quotes that the media use aren’t reliable. She should ask them to provide us with the full quote everytime
