Editorial: Don't throw away your vote by going with McCain or Obama
Charleston City Paper, Charleston, South Carolina ^ | 2008-10-22 | Jack Hunter

I have many Republican friends who are disgusted that I'm voting third party this election year. They believe stopping Barack Obama from becoming president outweighs all else. Meanwhile, I have many Democrat friends who are equally disgusted; for them, seeing John McCain defeated is more important than who wins. They are all wasting their votes.

Imagine a reckless teenager who constantly runs up his parents' credit cards, smashes the family car every Friday night, is failing in school, and has serious drinking and drug problems. Now imagine that no matter how reckless and dangerous that teenager became, his parents believed his behavior was worth tolerating simply because he was "their" kid. No reasonable person would consider this good parenting.

And yet this is exactly how otherwise reasonable people vote.

No matter how bad the Republican or Democrat nominee for president is, the party faithful support their own without fail. The message to politicians? They may lie, ignore their party's platform, and betray every supposed principle, but they will never be held accountable by most voters. Like the reckless teenager, there is simply no reason for them to stop their irresponsible behavior.

The greatest power the people have is their vote, and in supporting the lesser of two evils each election, voters ensure eternal evil.

I have to ask again.
Does NWO stand for “New World Order”?

“Where is your Christian forgiveness?”

I have to believe, since you’re not a liberal, that you know why that questions makes no sense.

Vote for who ever you choose. It’s your Constitutional right.

But jsut remember that this election is not like all those before. We are at a definite crossroads between becoming a Leftist dominated Socialism or slimly holding on to our Republic.

This is no longer a game that can be changed later when we get ready to do so. Once the Left gets full control, they will make changes that cannot be undone.

Of course McCain is not the best candidate, but at least there will be some restraint to stop the Democrat assault on our freedom. This is one fact that cannot be denied.

Voting third party weakens the overall Conservative voice by splitting up the few votes we need to win. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that. Remember that he road to hell is paved with principles. And without every vote we can muster, we are head directly there if we let Obama win.

Oh, and about the retraction, I didn’t know about that, but you can add that to the list of things McCain has shifted on while trying to sure up his base.

Um, let me suggest something to you. Get yourself a copy of “Schoolhouse Rock”. Neat little lessons on different things. Go to the “America Rock” section and watch the one on the “Three ring Government”

You’ll see that the President is really not in charge of everything.

False dichotomy.

You have TWO kids. Both of your kids are financially irresponsible and don't live their lives or advocate business practices you agree with.

You have to turn your business over to ONE or the OTHER. There is no third kid who will is going to take over the business. That just isn't a reality.

Both kids have spent a large amount of time surrounded by Communists. One was held captive and with the other it was voluntary.

I'm voting for turning the business over to the “kid” who is a military veteran and was only surrounded by Communists while being held captive.

I have to disagree with you, doing all we can to keep Obama out of the WH is what is important to the future of this nation. I support your right to vote as you choose and both understand and agree with your assessment of McCain. I am no fan of McCain and think he will also damage this nation but not to the extent of Obama.

Please reconsider how you will vote.

Read this maybe it will help you decide.

No I’m not a liberal but I’m not an Ivy league graduate either.

I have been taught and I teach my children to forgive and forget when someone apologizes.

What did your Mama teach you?

And just who do you think the Republican Party is? It is the people.

Remember the primaries? Like it or not, Republican voters (i.e. the Republican Party) choose McCain at the ballot box. Don’t try to make it out to be a situation where some committee, behind closed doors, appointed McCain as the nominee because that is not what happened.

Then they are going to have figure out that winning requires a Reagan-like nominee and that the Doles and McCains are not the best choice.

“I’ll spend the next four years pointing out that Nobama is THEIR President, made possible by them...and ask them, ‘How’s that working out for you?’”

You’ve convinced me, I had better vote for the other liberal because I don’t want anyone to say Nobama is my president.

Sarah Palin is Ronald Reagan.

And you’re not voting for her?

“He stands against all of us and with the enemies of these United States.”

That’s true but I think he thinks he’s doing it for the good of the country.

So in the meantime let’s just turn the presidency over to a race baiting marxist.

"You’ll see that the President is really not in charge of everything."

You're telling me?

I apparently understand that much better than you.

Read upthread for my short, but poignant expose' on what this election is about.

And who will win.

“Do they not realize that the presidential election process includes both a general election AND a series of primary elections?”

Says who? Is that in the constitution?

“....that the primaries systematically narrows that number down to a final two?”

Do you feel like the majority of Republicans selected McCain? McCain was selected by the party leadership. Why should anyone who’s trying to serve their country as president step into a Republican primary field? So they can get booted out by the leadership like Duncan Hunter was?

This loon makes a fundamental error. He thinks voting is a statement of principle. It’s not. It’s an expedient exercise of political power aimed at achieving a better result or avoiding a worse result.

It would be better if we had preferential voting. Then he could rank Chuck Baldwin #1 and John McCain #2. During the count, Baldwin would wash out on the first round, and our correspondent’s vote would pass on to McCain. That way, he could make his statement of principle without throwing his vote away. He could shake a stick at Baldwin’s number in the election return and say, See! a significant number of people think the Constitution Party is the better way to go.

McCain wins, it will be the last Republican elected, as conservatism will be destroyed for a generation or two.

Bull. The excitement around the McCain campaign has nothing to do with John McCain and everything to do with Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber and the ordinary common sense conservatism that they represent. Conservatism is coming back. I'm not inclined to burn down my house just to prove the need of a fire department.
