Editorial: Don't throw away your vote by going with McCain or Obama
Charleston City Paper, Charleston, South Carolina ^ | 2008-10-22 | Jack Hunter

I have many Republican friends who are disgusted that I'm voting third party this election year. They believe stopping Barack Obama from becoming president outweighs all else. Meanwhile, I have many Democrat friends who are equally disgusted; for them, seeing John McCain defeated is more important than who wins. They are all wasting their votes.

Imagine a reckless teenager who constantly runs up his parents' credit cards, smashes the family car every Friday night, is failing in school, and has serious drinking and drug problems. Now imagine that no matter how reckless and dangerous that teenager became, his parents believed his behavior was worth tolerating simply because he was "their" kid. No reasonable person would consider this good parenting.

And yet this is exactly how otherwise reasonable people vote.

No matter how bad the Republican or Democrat nominee for president is, the party faithful support their own without fail. The message to politicians? They may lie, ignore their party's platform, and betray every supposed principle, but they will never be held accountable by most voters. Like the reckless teenager, there is simply no reason for them to stop their irresponsible behavior.

The greatest power the people have is their vote, and in supporting the lesser of two evils each election, voters ensure eternal evil.

Then don’t vote for the Republican nominee. That’s your choice. Just don’t try to convince anyone that doing so doesn’t mean that Obama, a marxist in words and deeds, will require that many fewer votes to win.

“Voting third party is a vote for Marxism...aka Barak HUSSEIN Obama

Remember Ross Perot?”

Exactly—make your vote still count— while it still can...sorry, but you are seveeeeerely underestimating the long-term liberty ramifications for you, your children, your gradchildren, etc. from an osbama presidency :(

I think the author and anyone else who is voting third party this year is handing the election to Obamanation. Don’t do it!

Will do, sorry. McCain doesn't represent my views.

“Apparently you don’t get it. Without the support of Republican voters the Republican leadership that, as you say, ‘selected’ McCain as the nominee never would have been in a position to do so in the first place.”

What a load of BS. The McCain bid was nowhere. He to the point of dropping out of the race. He had no money and a tiny following because NOBODY in the conservative base could stomach him. The powerbrokers and leadership were trying to shove JulieAnnie down our throats until he started losing primaries to Ron Paul. Once it became apparent that his bid was futile, they abandoned JulieAnnie and threw all of their support to the more electable RINO. That is how we got McCain. That choice was bought and paid for.

Vote for who you want. All I’m saying is that, as a conservative, you cannot deny that every vote for a third party candidate equals one less vote that Obama needs.

Why not answer the question?

If you would honestly address it, you would see that there is good reason to NOT vote for McCain in Blue states and it would have ZERO benefit for Obama.

Obama does not NEED votes in those states given the electoral college. So yes... I can deny it. Your allegations are just silliness.

What?! It’s not a conspiracy. I’m not talking about the Illuminati here. I’m talking about the Bushes and their globalist agenda that THEY tell us about everyday.

Sigh. Like I have been saying, he still received the most votes. But that’s fine. If you don’t want to vote for him then don’t vote for him, it’s your right. Just don’t try to wash your hands of the fact that by not voting for him you will be making it easier for Obama to win since he will need one less vote. If you are OK with having a race baiting marxist as our president then by all means go right ahead and do this.

“By not voting for McCain, he’s not helping elect Obama. People who vote for Obama are responsible for electing him.”

What color is the sky of the planet you’re living on?

A vote for a 3rd party IS a vote for 0bama.

I am not making any allegations, I am simply stating FACT. Take it however you want to. If you are voting for a third party candidate because McCain is not conservative enough for you then you are in essence making it so that the marxist candidate, Obama, needs one less vote. Granted, this may have a greater effect in some states but it still holds true no matter where you live.

“The New World Order” is a total conspiracy theory. I cannot engage a discussion with anyone who is into conspiracy theories because he/she is not grounded in reality.

McCain calls it a "New Global Order."

Lots of stuff on FR, this for example:

McCain, Soros and the New “Global Order”
Have you noted McCain's positions on Global Warming and Kyoto? Or the Law of the Sea Treaty? Or NATO expansion and his "League Of Democracies" to "complement" the United Nations? What about the current financial crisis and the role that the G8 is pushing? How about the nationalization of banks? Can you not see where all of that is leading?

I am not making any allegations...

You're right. "assertions" would have been a better word.

... I am simply stating FACT.

No, you are stating unsupportable opinion.

Granted, this may have a greater effect in some states but it still holds true no matter where you live.

No, it doesn't hold true.
I'm in California. If I don't vote for either McCain or Obama, it will make ZERO DIFFERENCE.

Same here.

I am also where Doolittle is leaving his seat and Charlie Brown & Tom McClintock are battling it out. Ron Paul sent an email saying, "Vote for McClintock".

“Start supporting, with CASH DeMint’s group that is trying to get conservative Senators elected. It sends a signal to the GOP if your money goes there instead.”

Well to take back our party, it needs to be a grassroots campaign that starts at the local and state levels first.

Then we work on the House, followed by the Senate.

The biggest problems to taking back our party and thus our country is that the liberals control the schools and the media, and trying to reverse the decades of brainwashing and propaganda will be a monumental task.

Got a post number?

103

The insiders will win. Either way it goes, they will win.

We no longer have two seperate, idealogically-opposed parties in this country.

California is a "winner take all" electoral state.

Not sure if you know, but the Republican Party tried to get that changed back in 2007, but failed.

A wasted vote is a vote for the "lesser of two evils."...

Tell me about my ‘wasted vote’ once Obama is in power with a veto-proof Congress. Just the thought makes my blood run cold.

What does a "veto-proof Congress" matter when the President will be in lock-step with them?

Keep in mind that Clinton had a DEM majority in Congress for two years... and got almost nothing passed. The Congresspersons who were up for re-election couldn't sign on for the far-left garbage (like HillaryCare), and the nation very quickly voted in a GOP majority in the very next election.

And don't forget that we gave the GOP all 3 houses for SIX years... and they did little to expand oil production, expand nuclear production, protect the borders, diminish the size or scope of government (expanded it faster than Clinton's Congress, in fact), address voter fraud, or protect the Constitution (McCain's CFR, etc).
