SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Matt Damon is honored that the most recent celebrity of the presidential campaign - "Joe the Plumber" - dropped his name in an interview.
"That was a surprise. I hadn't heard that Joe the Plumber dropped my name," Damon said. "I'm honored to be in the little passion play, to be an extra."
The plumber, whose real name is Samuel Wurzelbacher, became an overnight media sensation after he was referred to constantly in the final presidential debate. When the press arrived at his Ohio home, Wurzelbacher, a Republican, said he hoped he wouldn't make a fool of himself with all the attention, "I don't have a lot of pull. It's not like I'm Matt Damon."
Damon - a hardcore Democrat who has spent as much time campaigning for Barack Obama recently than he has acting - was in San Francisco promoting a charity, OneXOne (pronounced One-by-One).
Along with hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean, Damon was promoting the group's work to end hunger and suffering for children in poverty in the U.S. and Africa.
The actor said he's headed to Florida this weekend to work with the Obama campaign on getting out the vote in a key battleground state. After that, Damon is off to Morocco to finish shooting a movie, but he said he would stay engaged with the Obama campaign.
"I'm sure I'll be on the phone over there after filming every night," he said. "I'll do telephone interviews or whatever they'll have me do. I want to sprint to the finish with the millions of us who really have been desperate for this change."
Damon previously had been openly critical of John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, calling the campaign's pick for the vice presidency "a disaster." On Thursday, Damon said he would not comment on the Republican ticket.
"The Obama campaign has decided to focus on the positive, and I should be a bigger man and be able to do that with them," Damon said.
Listening to Matt Damon pontificate is like a...like a...like watching a really....really....bad....Oliver Stone movie.
The Obama campaign is focused on the positive only in the sense that it has subcontracted the dirty negative stuff to the media and entertainment dumbunnies like you, Matt.
That Matt Damon is quit the brain trust isn’t he—bravely knocking a regular guy who asked a simple question.
What’s a matt damon ?
Well, I dare to say if his beloved Bama is elected, he will see a big cut in pay as no-one will be able to afford to see his “little passion plays”
Wonder how much more he will be paying in taxes?
Why does ANYONE pay any attention to these self-indulgent, overpaid, spoiled Hollyweird trailer trash? These people are not smart, most are not well educated and they are overpaid to say words that someone else wrote for them. I refuse to send ANY money to Hollyweird watching their dreck movies and horrible TV shows.
Every scripted show on TV today (with VERY few exceptions) uses recycled scripts from shows, plays or movies of decades ago. Even their remakes of great films are tawdry trash that aren't worth the price of the lighter fluid it would take to destroy them. Life's too short to waste a minute, much less acouple of hours watching their garbage. I've got better things to do.
Do Matt, Hollyweird, and the world a favor - help them discover unemployment, poverty and what REAL jobs are like.
Gee, like "W"??
is that little turd only 4’11”?
Well, you're officially listed at 5'10", but I'd be surprised if you were actually any taller than 5'8-1/2"....
People like this guy (whose movies I avoid, which greatly limits my viewing possibilites -a shame, since I love film) use their "good works" to hammer the rest of us. He wants the middle class squeezed so hard, that all those millions of "good works" done by that middle class, are dried up.
Who donated millions and millions to Katrina victims and to Tsumani victims, regardless of race or religion? Who cooks meals for the mom of a new baby? Who passes on hand-me-downs to a neighbor's kid? Who visits the elderly in nursing homes?
The middle class.
America (as would any other nation) becomes a much harsher, poorer, and colder place under Socialism.
Damon is 5’10” I didn’t know they piled it that high.
WHAT AN @$$!
I enjoy deviating from reality, too. I've discovered a rich treasure trove of films that are worth watching - those made in the 30s through the late 60s. They started getting bad in the late 60s and have continued a downhill trend ever since with only a few notable bright spots.
Do you have a list of films you’d be willing to share?
Rent the 1940s film “The Southerner” about a share cropper family.
