Wisconsin pastor has been charged with felony physical abuse of a child after he spanked his 12-year-old son for lying and a teacher notified social services.
Barry W. Barnett Jr., 43, of Poynette, Wis., is free on a $10,000 bond, but he could face up to three years in prison and fines for disciplining his son, the local Portage Daily Register reported.
At the pastor's hearing, Barnett's son said his father was right to spank him .
"He gave me a chance to tell him the truth, and I just kept lying to him," the boy said.
The boy said his father gave him two "swats" that "hurt a little" on his rear end in June. He told authorities both he and his dad cried while he was disciplined.
The 12-year-old said he was warned he might receive a spanking if he continued to act up and that he understands what he did was wrong.
"You should not lie to your parents and you should not go to places (where you are not allowed)," he said.
One of his siblings mentioned the spanking to a teacher, who called social services, according to the report.
A June 7 report from the Divine Savior Healthcare emergency department indicated that the boy had slight bruising on his buttocks, but it said there was no swelling and he was not experiencing pain. The medical paperwork said the boy told physicians he didn't think he was abused and he loves his father.
The documents show the boy's doctor does not believe he was abused, and he called the event a "social services fiasco."

She was obviously being a good little Nazi.
I was just thinking about the mindset of Wisconsin after watching a video posted here, and this confirms my perceptions. Wisconson, a blue state, has some real loonies.
You tax dollars at work
On her initial visit, the DSS worker presented me with a document that she told me carried the authority of a court order. She had hanwritten in "instructions" to me that included a section that forbade me from "verbal discipline" toward my daughter. (My daughter had accused me of "verbal abuse", as well as an incident of spanking that had taken place in another state four or five years earlier.) I was forced to put the door back up, and in all ways to "respect her right to privacy". My daughter was "counseled" by the worker in private, with neither my wife nor I allowed to be present. We were then notified that we would be investigated for 90 days. Our priest, our parents, and co-workers were talked to and asked if they were aware of any abusive behavior on our part.
At the end of the process, we were "cleared". I then asked the worker what the consequences would be to my daughter for making a false allegation, and was told "none". We were told that any consequences would discourage other children from reporting abusive situations.
Interested in the results? Our daughter became further and further out of control. A year later she ran away with a 19 year old young man to another state for a couple of weeks, then came home as if nothing had happened. DSS refused to take action, and the Sheriff's department refused to charge the 19 year old.
Eventually, she was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine, but was put on probation. She failed to keep her appointments with her P.O. and they just let the matter drop. She no longer has contact with the family, and I'm not aware that anyone knows her situation.
I am convinced that this situation would not have come to this without the intervention of the DSS. They have been absolutely instrumental in ruining her life and destroying a part of our family. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR LIFE! TAKE WHATEVER ACTION NECESSARY TO KEEP THEM OUT OF YOUR HOME AND YOUR FAMILY!
She is most likely obligated to report it under penalty of law. That’s the way it is in my state and probably most states.
I was spanked all the time by my parents. I look back on it and see how it important it was for me to be punished like that. A couple times i threatened my mom by saying i would “call the cops on her for child abuse” and she said “go right ahead if you never want to see me again.” Needless to say i never called.
Another time when i was about 10, i was throwing a fit over something stupid and i said i wished i lived with another family, any family but mine. My dad dragged me to the car and drove 20 miles to the orphanage in town at 11pm at night, opened the car door and said, “here you go. you can leave now and live at the orphanage.” Of course i stayed in the car and cried all the way home.
I now can only imagine how my words must have hurt my parents, but i’m thankful that we have had a great relationship over the years.
Got in a fight at school back in the mid-60s. The PE teach paddled us both - with ping-pong paddles!
Others were less intellignet about that.
There was one shop teacher who was a former DI (USMC), whom no one messed with.
Calm down - its WND. They can be depended on to give you only half a story.
Child protective services are the first line shock troops for communism.
We had stories about a board with holes drilled in it for less air resistance and more pain, but I never found out about it.
Victims Of Child Abuse Laws
We were put through hell in the 1980's. Before the internet (for me anyway), I wrote letters to EVERYONE from the U.S. Congress that funded 'child-saving' services to the local newspapers. I developed a terrible reputation, but I got some changes in the system.
After having her second baby, my step-daughter told, "I used to think you were a bad mom, until I had kids of my own." And now, ten years after their father died, my step-children still call me 'mom.'
A couple of books I recommend: Wounded Innocents by Richard Wexler and The Child Abuse Industry by Mary Pride.... (Twenty years later and I still remember the names of the books....)
Anyone want to hock up for a class action suit against the Los Angels Unified School district?
They used to spank us back in the 60’s.
