Wealthier people who pay more in taxes should vote more often? Satire?

The government’s intrusion into our lives is thorough. When I was a little girl I listened for hours to stories my grandparents told of life in America before FDR.

It’s unlikely many in America would accept that much freedom and liberty in our country anymore. But still- it’s worth thinking about and looking back at in order to learn what different ways might work in the modern world.

We are far removed from the founders first principles today ..

Everybody has an unalienable right to vote, but those who give more to our social support system should be allowed to vote more often, in a fair and equivalent manner of course.

Those who recieve benefits from the government but do not pay taxes should not be allowed to vote. Clear conflict of interest. Thus the mess we find ourselves in.

what??? And who makes up the rules on ‘who makes too much money’. Who decides if You live too well, you’ve become too successful? Who on this earth makes that decision? I may be rich to a homeless person, but I am not to someone who makes more than I. There is great opportunity in the world for those who want it. Not everyone is motivated, maybe not everyone understands the opportunities available. But to strip it away from someone who is successful is wrong! It is wrong to punish those who have worked their rear end off and have done well. Wrong to punish those who have become successful enough to employ people such as myself and offer me a good job and insurance. IF they hadn’t becomes successful, I wouldn’t have a job. Over taxing hurts the economy, simple economics and trends proove that! This is backwards and outdated policies. And Obama is not moving forward, he is moving backwards to known failed policies.

Wealthier people who pay more in taxes should vote more often?

Yes. My taxable income puts me in this group:

Taxable income is between $31k and $62k, we are 25% of taxpayers, we pay 20% of our taxable income as tax and we pull 11% of the total tax burden.

I drew up some ratios between what percentage of AGI and what percentage of the total tax burden we shoulder and then compared those ratios amongst the different levels. If this is a fair way to calculate voting rights, I should get two votes for every one vote somebody in the "less than $31k" category gets and somebody in the top 1% of "more than $365k" should get eight votes.

speaking of giving to the poor, I truly feel that if people feel this way, they should give more - voluntarily. Pick up some health insurance for someone in need, pay their rent, buy their groceries. FInd a homeless person and hand them $100.00 or whatever needs to be done. Do you feel that would help? But, as far as charity, the USA is the largest donater is charitable contributions in the world:

Pretty amazing; thanks for the image. I agree with some of the posters here, though, that most the people who will vote for him would just shrug their shoulders. I think the true undecideds are going to break our way, but if this got widespread attention it would help.

This election has all the qualities of a nightmare. It is scary, it doesn't make sense and there is a desperate screaming-about-the-pod-people frustration quality to it. The only difference is we're not going to wake up in three hours and feel the relief that it was only a dream.

the tax codes of this country are an embarassment to us all.

they have evolved as a compromise between idealism and reason. they are a creature of congressional committees and endless arguement. there is absolutely no simple understanding of them. it is difficult to really say how much any percentile income group actually pays. the collection and dissemination of these statistics is as flawed as the tax code itself.

we can debate the details of this system endlessly and accomplish nothing but additional confusion and more codes.

i want a “flat” tax or a “fair” tax. by “flat” tax i mean a set percentage of income, the same for all taxpayers. by “fair” tax, i mean no income tax at all, but a tax on goods and services at a set rate. in either case, i mean no deductions or exceptions. income from any source in any form would be taxed in the “flat” tax. purchases of any goods or services would be taxed in the “fair” tax.

my apologies if i have not used the terms “flat” or “fair” in the same manner as others might.

my choice of the two would be the “fair” tax, but i would accept the “flat” tax on income as a compromise to get rid of our current system.
