How Can McCain Be Losing Latinos?

SAN DIEGO -- Recently, I was on a Latino-themed radio show defending John McCain. The defendant was accused of abandoning comprehensive immigration reform, turning his back on Latino supporters, and associating with a bad crowd (read: Republicans). I didn't give an inch. I was the only person in the discussion who actually knew McCain -- from my stint 10 years ago as a reporter at a newspaper in Arizona -- and I could attest to the fact that the senator had always gone to bat for Latinos. At one point, another guest scolded me in frustration: "Look, it's not about John McCain. It's about the Republican Party!"

I guess the lesson here is that people will stick with what they identify with. Blacks and Latinos will stand with their own kind every time if that is how they identify themselves. "When asked, who/what are you?" How many white folks say with pride, "I am a white person"? Not many. Black and Latinos will for the most part Identify themselves with their race before anything else.

How Can McCain Be Losing Latinos?

Audiences may clap and smile politely during a panderer's speeches... but nobody ever really respects him, afterwards.

I agree. People do tend to. I live in CA and, right or wrong, all I know is, at least here, the Immigration/Illegals issue has very much hurt the Republican Party. And they identify it with the Party. They don’t care where an individual Republican may stand on the issue.

Obama is not black. He is half white, partially black, and who knows what else.

Because Latinos (illegals from a;l other countries)
not only want free citizenship which both
McCain and Obama have promised.

They want “spread the wealth” concept as well.
Free education, free college, free health care, free
homes (ACORN) and free childcare (ACORN)

There is still time White people, keep your
country as your fore fathers gave you.

Elect McCain and Palin.

Republican Party = the evil party!

make it a big lie say it often and they will believe it.

I don't know how we can change this negativity that has been propagated against us.

"Look, it's not about John McCain. It's about the Republican Party!"

That's it. The amnesty crowd wants freebies and lax border security, and they know they're more likely to get that with Democrats in power.

Latinos have long traditions of being collectivists and socialists as well as building defunct societies. To think we'd import them all and they'd suddenly become free market, rugged individualists because they practice some strange form of Catholicism was not very well thought out.

It certainly would have been much brighter to try it out on a much smaller scale. Because it may very well be too late to do much about it.

Absolutely. Most ethnic groups lose their tribal mentality after a generation or two of assimilation, but blacks are still immigrants emotionally, and so many Mexicans have immigrated in such a short time that they have formed ethnic enclaves which resist assimilation. That is why immigration, legal and illegal, must be kept at a reasonable level: in order to allow the natural process of assimilation. Otherwise, instead of adding immigrants and their descendants as members to our unique society, we are diluting our unique society with assimilation resistant third worlders.

But Blacks and Latinos hate each other. Surely the GOP can exploit that anger. I love the Spanish language ads that that Mexican soap opera star is doing over abortion wherein he mentions how 1/3 of all abortions are Latino babies and that it is a deliberate attempt to exterminate them from the Obama crowd.

Indeed. Once Latinos reach Critical Voting Mass, They will make permanent the privileged status minorities now enjoy in education, hiring, and business, as well as "spreading the wealth" through taxation, and reining in law enforcement, border enforcement, and drug enforcement.

Yup. This issue single-handedly turned California from a Reagan Republican state into a solid Democratic state during Pete Wilson's administration, giving every Democratic presidential candidate a huge bloc of electoral votes to take for granted.

When you promise to rob Peter to pay Paul - you can count on Paul's support. Only problem is that Obama's telling everyone they're "Paul". It's a lie. Not enough money to "spread around".

Here's Obama's socialists bonafides

Here’s a New Party newspaper story about Obama - ( Socialist newspaper from Chicago )- front page from the late 90’s...

How can McCain be losing at all?

In terms of their impact on the future of this country, there is NO CONTEST between Obama and McCain.
