I guarantee you, I'll win: McCain
ABCNEWS ^ | 10-26-08 | Landers

Posted on 10/26/2008 2:28:56 PM PDT by Wegotsarah.com

US Republican presidential nominee John McCain says he can guarantee a win in next week's election, but says the result will be very close.

Senator McCain, who has been trailing Democratic rival Barack Obama by more than 10 points in some national and state polls, said his campaign was "doing fine" with the polls nine days away.

"Those polls have consistently shown me much farther behind then we actually are," he said. "We're doing fine.

"We've closed in the last week and if we continue this close in the next week you're going to be up very late on election night.

"I guarantee you that two weeks from now you'll see that this has been a very close race and I guarantee you I'm going to win it."

"We are very competitive in those areas [key states] and we're going to have to just get out our vote and work very hard over the next nine days."

Later Senator McCain addressed a rally at the University of North Iowa on a swing through the midwestern state where Senator Obama enjoys a near 12-point lead according to an average on realclearpolitics.com.

As he is expected to do throughout the remainder of the campaign, Senator McCain relentlessly rammed home his contention that Senator Obama is a closet socialist hellbent on raising taxes on ordinary Americans.

The 72-year-old former Navy pilot also struck a defiant stance as he told supporters he relished the election fight.

"I'm not afraid of the fight - I'm ready for it," he stated.

He also repeated his claim - angrily denied by the Obama camp - that the Democratic nominee had already begun drafting his inauguration speech.

"What America needs now is someone who'll finish the race before starting the victory lap....'

McCain needs to hit hard on “checks and balances”.

He needs to convince voters that a Obama/Reid/Pelosi combination is horrible for America.

Face it, we are not going to win back Congress. However, a trifecta of power is scary.....

Also, hot on Socialism. Is Obama a Marxist???

I am cautiously optimistic.

Senator McCain needs to repeat this every chance he gets. It helps his base believe.

Let Barry go ahead and plan the victory parade. It makes him look a little too cocky.

McCain understands momentum in an election and he has it right now. He knows he will close the gap this next week but it will be close. I believe we are going to be very surprised to see all the undecideds go McCain at the end of the night that will give McCain a bigger win than expected.

We need to work hard this last week and make sure we GO VOTE!

However, a trifecta of power is scary.....

And that's the trump card we play. It would be a nightmare for Democrats to control both the executive and both houses of Congress and I think that would scare a lot of independents to death.

We just have to pound it home in the homestretch. Congress gave us the housing crisis and Obama will give them a blank check.

Look at the significant developments that have happened in the last week: reports that Florida Jews are terrified of Obama. a Pennsylvania RC cardinal sends out a letter rebuking any Catholic that votes for a pro-abortion candidate, Murtha makes his comment about western Peensylvanians being racist, Joe Biden implies that Obama will be ‘tested’ because of his perceived inexperience, the national and battleground polls are tightening, Sarah is on top of her game, Obama stands by his comment to Joe the Plumber that he wants to ‘share the wealth’, according to IBD/TIPP McCain makes major gains among suburbanites. The only thing good for Obama is that the stock market has been volatile. First Sarah guaranteed a win in PA; now John guarantees an overall win; he knows what is happening on the ground; I think we all have an inkling as well. it’s called Palin power.

McCain: Visibly absent from the scheduling until Election night.

I had a strange dream last night. I was watching the election returns on CNN (I like John King’s election map TV) and it turns out McCain wins PA, NH, OH, FL, and WI. But despite that, they’re still talking about an Obama victory because “the one” has an early 3 point lead in NC and is leading by better than expected margins in MO in the STL and KC areas.

The margins for Obama are smaller out west but he still manages to carry CA, NV, and NM, while McCain gets CO.

But something strange happens, in all of places, NY. Returns there for most of the night actually show McCain leading and its baffled the media. They refuse to call it. Also, they refuse to call the state of VA. This leaves the race at 265 McCain to 239 Obama.

I remember watching my TV and seeing McCain appear to claim victory in NY, although the media won’t give it to him. Then I wake up.

Weird, pretty vivid. I guess to much time blogging and thinking about the election. But it seemed real and I was disappointed when I woke up.
