RedState: Romney Surrogates Sabotaging Sarah Palin?
RedState ^ | October 28, 2008 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 10/28/2008 3:31:52 PM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

When I was in St. Paul for the Republican Convention, more than a dozen people told me acolytes of Mitt Romney were feeding all the stories to the media portraying Palin in a negative light.

In fact, I heard that one of the biggest pushers of anti-Palin stories, including encouraging reporters to pursue the "Trooper-gate" story was Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.

I did not blog on it at the time because I perceived it to be people trying to finish off Romney. It likewise seemed clear to me that if this was going on, it was people loyal to Romney who were still hoping for his come back and not Romney himself.

These days it is hard to miss Kathleen Parker's savage attacks on Sarah Palin. She, along with several others listed here attacking Sarah Palin were also some of the first pundits in bed with the Romney campaign in 2007/8.

Again, it is hard for me to place the finger on Romney. It seems to me that these are people who are still convinced he's the better nominee and don't want Palin to be in any position to challenge him in 2012.

There is no reason to condemn her just as there is no reason to condemn Mitt.

Both are ambitious and both want to win, except the people who hate Mitt condemn him for it and believe every rumor while the people who love Sarah overlook every flaw and disbelieve every rumor.

There’s the double standard.

case in point”

Can you elaborate a little, what is the case in point?

There is no reason to condemn her just as there is no reason to condemn Mitt.”

Of course there is nothing to condemn her for, she is a real, lifetime, what I call a “genetic” conservative, and she is in the closing days of her campaign as our candidate for Vice President of the United States, and she is doing an incredible job.

Mitt Romney on the other hand, well, he carries an awful lot of baggage and that is why people believe the negatives about him.

Well, shots have been fired across the party.
If these underlings are not slapped down HARD, the party will pay. He’s been put on alert that his staff is scum and he better clean house if he wants any power.

It’s safe to say he’s been ruled out for VP pick by Palin.

And were those dozen people disciples of Hucksterbubba? If ever there was a man who give Christianity a bad name, it's Hucksterbubba.

“Romney is slick. He’s said one thing while his hired minions have done another for quite some time”.

If he were a Dem, he would be contesting with Bill Clinton and Barak Obama for “most adroit” (ie willing to lie) politician.

Forget about Mitt. He was never the present. His past is not very admirable and his future (in Rep politics) is nil.

Stick a fork in him. He’s done.

Conservatives know that, and I think that Romney himself claimed that he was not running in 2012, but some of his followers are almost cult like.

I’m in agreement with Erick on this.

I think these attacks by former Romney staffers happened below Mitt’s own radar. But they’ve been pulling this kind of stuff since their sleazeball attacks on Fred Thompson during the primaries. Remember the rumors that he would drop out (well ahead of the time he actually did decide to leave the race)? Remember the Phony Fred website? Both were the work of Romney operatives.

Kathleen Parker isn’t the only Romney-supporting pundit who has trashed Palin. She is joined by Michael Shmerconish and arguably Peggy Noonan.

If Mitt does intend to pursue elective office in the future, I hope he does not include these sorry bastages who worked for his presidential campaign in his plans.

I know thatMitt, who is a faithful Mormon, adheres to a stringent moral code. When his former staff and supporters carry out political activities which are anathma to Mitt Romney’s own ethical standards, they do not serve him well.

I have been with McCain since the Florida primary but a lot of us know who planted the story in Politico that the NY Times ran with on Judith that they retracted on page 68. Not to mention that McCain and Rudy are very close friends.

Rudy’s campaign people have never liked Romney, and most would never have supported him the way we have McCain. All along Rudy said if he wasn’t running he would support McCain.

There was a lot more underming by one campaign against the others then most of us realized at the time.

I just read the remarks made by Kevin Madden linked by Erick in his piece. Way out of place a week before the election and given the bitterness during the primaries between the two campaigns I’m not surprised.

I like Mitt ok- but I’ve never believed he “gets” us. I said on another thread- Mitt is a Republican- not a conservative.

If he thinks he’s going to inherit the party it’s going to be an interesting few years. At this point- it’s no contest- I’m much more favorably inclined towards Palin than Romney.

Miss Fred more than ever.

It is very apparent that the DimocRAT Underground forum does not have a monopoly on ignorance. Some of the posts in this thread have proven that.

Mitt has been supporting the McCain/Palin team right along.

I guess so, thanks for pointing it ou., I wasn’t too up on the Giuliani peoples view, but you are right, Giuliani does seem to like McCain and he also seems to be a good representative of his supporters piece of the GOP.

Romney operatives inside the McCain campaign are rumored to be behind the insulting leaks calling Palin a “diva’ and “whack job”. Shame on whoever it is!

I’m sorry, Soul Seeker, but Bobby Jindal will be too busy unscewing Louisiana for the next seven years. After he is done with his term limited job, I will allow him to seek a seat on a conservative ticket, providing that he does his job well here at home. bttt

All kinds of people work in campaigns. Some even want their own 15 minutes of fames. Stomp you down to get in front of a camera. And it seemed to me then, as it did now, those with the least amount of actual connection to the candidate or issue are the ones most prone to do these kinds of antics.

It's not like a mind-meld thing happens to everyone involved in a campaign; people can get involved for different reasons. I do not at all think Mitt Romney has anything to do with this. At all.

I can remember a physical brawl between two guys at a GOP convention each claiming they knew Bob Dornan best. The stuff each these guys was spewing was so obviously not at all about Bob Dornan, but about themselves.

Now, why some guy would run on about "pursuing Troopergate"? Who knows. Bet it's something personal and having nothing to do with Sarah Palin, and clearly, nothing to do with Mitt Romney.

Maybe he bought a fancy car figuring he'd go with Mitt to the Whitehouse. Ya can never just know.

Ahhh, rumors...those pesky tidbits of information/disinformation that are more often found to be untrue than true. Where have you heard these rumors?
