Boehner Bashes Justice Dept. For Not Doing Enough On Voter Fraud
CBS, The Politico ^ | Oct 31, 2008 | John Bresnahan

Posted on 10/31/2008 1:34:57 PM PDT by OPS4

(The Politico) House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is slamming the Justice Department for not doing enough in response to GOP complaints of potential voter fraud.

In a letter today to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Boehner said he had just been told that Justice has reversed its 2002 policy of sending prosecutors along with election-observer teams into certain states.

"I have just been advised of your department’s decision to reverse its longstanding policy of assigning criminal prosecutors to serve on all federal election observer teams," Boehner wrote. "I am deeply concerned about this decision, particularly in the wake of a steady stream of reports highlighting voter registration fraud and potential fraudulent voting activities that have dominated the news in recent weeks."

The Ohio Republican also referred to a Washington Times story that said DOJ employees had donated $268,000 to Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, including several senior members of the Voting Rights section, which would oversee voter-fraud allegations. Boehner suggested pro-Obama officials within the Justice Department may be influencing policy decisions.

"I am particularly dismayed to learn that several DOJ officials with important responsibilities for overseeing enforcement of the nation's voting rights laws – from access to the polls to protecting against voter fraud – are significant financial contributors to the Obama presidential campaign," Boehner said.

And even though it’s the Republicans who are shouting the loudest about this, and wondering why nothing is being done, when McCain wins, the libs will attribute the win to Republican voter fraud.

UPDATE! Lawyers: Justice Dept not enforcing election laws

By LARA JAKES JORDAN – 14 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is failing to ensure that voters are legally registered in at least two states, a group of former high-ranking government attorneys said Friday in asking Attorney General Michael Mukasey to prosecute evidence of election fraud.

The five attorneys all formerly held top jobs in the Justice Department’s civil rights division. They also asked Mukasey to “vigorously” investigate the community activist group ACORN, which hired — and fired — some employees now accused of submitting voter registration forms signed by ‘Mickey Mouse’ or other fictitious characters.

“We write to ask you to assure the public that the department is taking all steps necessary to protect the integrity of our election process by vigorously investigating and prosecuting fraudulent voter registration activities,” the lawyers wrote.

They also pointed to Ohio and Wisconsin, where the Justice Department has decided against requiring state officials to confirm voters’ identities by releasing their names to local election authorities as “difficult to fathom.” At issue in both states were thousands of voters whose names did not match listed Social Security and driver’s license numbers in other government databases, or otherwise did not pass identity verification standards.

“This appears to be a dereliction of the department’s obligations to enforce federal law,” the attorneys wrote.

The writers were all high-ranking Justice Department officials during Republican presidential administrations. Friday’s letter follows an earlier request by another group of former Justice civil rights attorneys — who held top department jobs during Democratic administrations — who asked Mukasey to make sure voter registration investigations don’t keep eligible minority voters away from the polls next Tuesday.

Justice Department spokeswoman Jamie Hais said the letter is being reviewed. Earlier this week, the department said it was satisfied with Ohio authorities’ efforts to process problematic voter registration cards but will continue to monitor the issue.

The FBI recently began investigating whether the community activist group ACORN has helped foster voter registration fraud around the nation in the run-up to Nov. 4.

The group, which has denied any wrongdoing, says it has registered 1.3 million young people, minorities, poor and working-class voters. More than 13,000 ACORN workers in 21 states recruited low-income voters, who tend to be Democrats.

In a fact sheet issued Friday, the Justice Department said its highest priorities include “protecting voting rights and combating voter fraud.”

“The department remains committed to vigorous enforcement of the federal laws passed by Congress that protect the right to vote, the worth of votes honestly cast, and the integrity of this country’s elections,” the fact sheet said.

“DOJ answers to the president.”

Nonetheless, I think the good people in Ohio are paying Boehner to stay awake and go into action a bit earlier instead of waiting until the last moment. Further, Boehner and the Pres are on the same team!

I hope that McCain has learned something from watching Bush and from his own treatment in this campaign and goes into office with a clear idea of who the enemies are -- and that they are enemies.

"Laws for Logan Act violation, treason, murder, voting fraud, perjury, forgery, identity theft, election fraud,
Code level federal document stealing, and every other felony
simply do not apply to any Democrat or illegal aliens under my watch.
Obama has Teflon for both reasons. House Minority Leader John Boehner and the rest of the Republicans
had better leave this country before my messiah Emperor Obama orders us to
incarcerate and exterminate you."

I just spoke to a staffer in Sen. Sessions’ office and he said he will convey my concerns on to him. Please contact your Congressman and Senators about this. The President is a supreme disappointment in this matter.

UPDATE The FBI recently began investigating whether the community activist group ACORN has helped foster voter registration fraud around the nation in the run-up to Nov. 4. In a fact sheet issued Friday, DOJ said its highest priorities include “protecting voting rights and combating voter fraud.” “The department remains committed to vigorous enforcement of the federal laws passed by Congress that protect the right to vote, the worth of votes honestly cast, and the integrity of this country’s elections,” the fact sheet said.

ACORN has denied any wrongdoing, says it has registered 1.3 million young people, minorities, poor and working-class voters. More than 13,000 ACORN workers in 21 states recruited low-income voters, who tend to be Democrats.

Wall Street Journal's John Fund reported 10/26/08 Acorn -- the troubled left-wing activist group, has new headaches. Last week Michael Slater, head of its Project Vote, admitted that some 400,000 of its claimed 1.3 million newly registered voters were rejected by election officials as either duplicates or fraudulent -- i.e. it doesn't sound as if Acorn's vaunted "quality control" efforts were all that effective.

Some reasons why may be exposed next week in a lawsuit filed by the Republican Party of Pennsylvania in state court. The Web site PolitickerPA reports that Anita Moncrief, an Acorn worker in Washington D.C. from 2005 to 2008, will testify that the group engaged in "minimal to nonexistent" checking of its voter registration work during her time with Project Vote.

The Republican suit, filed by Pittsburgh attorney Heather Heidelbaugh, demands that the Pennsylvania Secretary of State follow federal law requiring that first-time voters using an absentee ballot show some form of identification. It also seeks to have Acorn turn over its voter registration lists, identify registrants who signed up fraudulently and instruct them not to vote. (Excerpt) Read more at online.wsj.com ...

I’m really upset that Bush sat on this until his 7th year, and then made a halfhearted attempt, at best, to go after voter fraud when it was so obvious the dims were refining it to a fine art form in 2000/2004.
