Competing in traditionally GOP strongholds, they campaign on fiscal discipline, gun rights and oil drilling. They may pose a problem to party leaders in Congress if they win.
The prospects for big Democratic gains in the House, amplified by advances in the Senate and a White House victory, have spurred grave Republican warnings of a shift to the left that could bring increases in spending, taxes and regulation.
But if anything, a number of potential Democratic newcomers have been running well to the right of their party's leader, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco). Competing in traditional GOP strongholds, many are campaigning on pledges of fiscal discipline, gun rights and "family values."
If elected, they could pose a problem to party leaders at a time when Democrats hope to gain control of both chambers of Congress and the presidency for the first time since 1994.
"I own seven guns, and nobody's going to take them away from me," said Walt Minnick, a Republican-turned-Democrat in Idaho who is one example of the hopeful Democratic class of 2008. Minnick is in a close race against a wobbly first-term Republican in a district that President Bush handily won in 2004.

Any of you Freepers trust the Blue Dog Rats?
We’ll see how they do on election day. This isn’t an anti-Republican year.
As soon as they get to Washington, they are taken to a little room where they are forced to watch a video of Helen Thomas disrobing.
They are then told that they will have to watch it again if they don’t do what they are told to.
Then they get into office and vote along with Pelosi and Reid.
BTW the senate has let judge appointments languish. How is McCain going to overcome that and do anything about tax relief with Punch and Judy running the show?
That's a great big "mega-nega."
The way I see it, if they were really conservatives, they would be Republicans already. Why help give the enemy a majority?

That would even get ME TO VOTE DEM... until the cyanide kicks in
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
after which you'd be voting Dem into eternity.

Nancy, Harry, Howard and 0bama say: Don’t bite the hand that feeds ya.
Just a little token opposition, IMHO.
**Dem leadership is well to the left of the American people. **
THESE DEMS are Left of the old SOVIET PEOPLE!

as per my original post

For that matter, the Democrat leadership is well to the left of the Chinese Communists. They have more faith in the free market than the San Francisco Stalinist moonbats do.
As soon as they set foot in Washington they will forget all about “fiscal discipline, gun rights and oil drilling” except as things they won’t be voting for.
Voting for a conservative democrat is like screwing your brains out for celibacy.
Doesn’t matter, as soon as they get to DC they’ll become Pelosi’s bitches.
What they do is run as conservatives, but as soon as they get to DC their party leaders (who are far left wing), make them get in line.
So, even if they WIN as a conservative Dem, they never govern that way. Problem is though, once these suckers get in, they are hard to remove.
That is deeply disturbing, and hysterical.
Well, there's a bunch of South Carolina freepers insisting that the blame America first, surrender money DemocRAT nominee for the U.S. Senate down there is the "true conservative" in the race.
