Redstate.com: Obama wants to reshape the agriculture industry
Redstate ^ | November 2, 2008 | Soren Dayton

Below, Moe writes on some shocking statements by Barack Obama about "bankrupting the coal industry" in order to address global warming.

Obama has it in for another industry: agriculture. Check out these statements from an interview he gave with Time's Joe Klein:

As a consequence, our agriculture sector actually is contributing more greenhouse gases than our transportation sector. And in the mean time, it's creating monocultures that are vulnerable to national security threats, are now vulnerable to sky-high food prices or crashes in food prices, huge swings in commodity prices, and are partly responsible for the explosion in our healthcare costs because they're contributing to type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease, obesity, all the things that are driving our huge explosion in healthcare costs. That's just one sector of the economy.

He is blaming our agriculture policy for global warming, obesity, stroke, heart disease, etc.

If he is willing to "bankrupt" the coal industry over global warming, what's he going to do to the agriculture sector which "actually is contributing more greenhouse gases than our transportation sector"?

Cuba. Every yard a garden. Every single area planted for food. That was done to feed the population. Everyone else worked the sugar plantations for export crop to Soviet countries.

He’s trying to placate the greens. What next? No private cars? Alternate gas days?

This guy is promising so much to so many, he’s going to fall on his face.

Where the heck has the GOP been on these issues? Destroying coal, agriculture, etc. and this is the first they are publishing this stuff.

He has the arrogance of the inexperienced. He’s never done anything so he’s never felt the sting of failure.

Let’s help the little marxist gain a little experience shall we?

“America has been warned...”

Disagree. Actually a few Freepers will read this article, and those that attend “Redstate”, but other than that America as a whole doesn’t know a damned thing about this.

Need to work to get this out to the public. I for one am sending this to everyone on my email address list with note to forward.

This was on WHO radio Friday. The noon farm show. Grassly was livid and said “typical Obama, says what he REALLY thinks one day then turns around and backtracks the next”.
Grassly was really unhappy about the comments. Yes, let’s blame the farm states for fat people and greenhouse gases (hey, CO2 is a GOOD thing, just ask ANY tree!)

“Let’s help the little marxist gain a little experience shall we?”

I think if he ever gets into office, he will find he is going to run into well entrenched, many decades of service, democrat senators and congressman who will inform him that he is a neophyte.

I smell a Carter on the horizon. Carter came into office with his own agenda and ran headlong into the real powers.

Or else, I have relatives in Munich I can visit...for a few years.

To Obama, we are all kulaks, rich peasants that must be destroyed.
And he will do so. Everything he does will be to divide people, create enemies and point to their destruction.

Ignorance is strength.

Well that really is the main concern with these types. They do think the government knows more than the individual.
They don’t trust in, or believe in the genius and uniqueness of the individual.

He's promising far more than anyone could ever deliver and all but his most avid his supporters will be enraged at him within a year.

Sometimes there is a reason for monoculture - climate, soil type, growing season. Our area has high nitrogen from frequent lightning strikes, a very short growing season and is at high elevation. Best for growing alfalfa hay and cows. That is basically all we grow as that is the highest and best use. Farmers tried to grow medicinal herbs and met with frost. They tried to grow sunflowers only they had to completely retool and field equipment and machines are expensive.

I have heard wildlife biologists suggest we put cows on a “water diet” or drip irrigate in pastures. They are clueless. They came in and pushed “efficient” pivot wheels that the government helped purchase. That changed the hydrology of the watershed. Now the groundwater is no longer recharged and the water leaves the area downstream faster, leaving little for summer flows. Also more land is irrigated at a higher cost than with flood or wheel line irrigation.

Our Ag extension does experiments on best crops and w3hat we traditionaly grow is just about it. Obama is ignorant.

Oh Lord. I just finished a book about Mao’s Great Leap Forward that resulted in 20,000,000 - 40,000,000+ deaths from starvation within two years.

Too bad our schools teach garbage. The kids don’t know.

I guess that’s why he wants his Nationalist Brownshirt Civilian Corps up and running.

Obama has less experience dealing with these sorts of issues than any of the four candidates running and he seems arrogant enough to move forward with sweeping reforms to entire industries based on faulty, naive assumptions. It’s extraordinary that he’s been able to go this far without anyone questioning his hairbrained schemes such as these quoted. He’s not making any sense.
