WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.
"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer," Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility."
Dunham helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

Prayers up for the family, I’ll have to let God deal with the spooky coincidences.
I hope she did not suffer. It is a noble thing to raise your grandchild. May she rest in Peace.

Common sense will tell one that an individual on life support (if that, in fact, was the case) can be taken off that support at anytime. Uncomfortable to think...but keep in mind those who are players in this. Your comment “spooky coincidences” sounds naive to me.
If she had bone cancer then bones brake very easy. It is also one of the most painful deaths.
But you DO give Barack “credit”. You say that he went astray. He didn’t seem to fall far from the tree from the sorts that his mother was hanging out with and I’ve seen some things to suggest that his parents were leftists too. And who was it that raised Barack on the knee of a bisexual communist?
Radio news is now saying she died last night. So the story got a “newshour” release today. Nice.

Biden’s MIL might not count *if* the Grandmother and the Campaign Director died within hours of each other.
The death of a family member has nothing to do with anything else. So, Obama is running for president, no big deal when compared to his grandmother dying, who mainly raised him and sent him to school. He has my sympathy just as anyone would who loses a family member.
That does not give him credit...that indicts him. His problem is that he has, with his ideology and vioews continued on that path. As I say, that is an indictment of the man, not anything positive.
I will not attack his grandmother.
My sympathies to the family. God is perhaps the only One who knows what happened here. I sincerely want to believe that this is just incredibly strange timing.
Just...dang.
