Madelyn Payne Dunham opened doors for women at Bank of Hawaii with a firm hand and no fanfare, the same way she helped raise her grandson, Barack Obama.
Dunham, 86, died last night after a battle with cancer, according to a statement from Obama and his half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng.
Petite and determined, Dunham rose from clerk to bank vice president in the space of a decade, one of two women to reach that position at Bankoh in 1970, the first ever. Dunham remained reserved then, just as she was decades later when the world’s spotlight shone on her grandson.
“She’s a very down-to-earth person, a tiny little woman,” said Alice Dewey, a University of Hawaii professor emeritus and family friend. “No nonsense.”

I wanted to say something also but didn’t want to appear crass.....but my question was going to be, what kind of funeral does an atheist have? If they do not believe in God, how would they have sins? Based on what?
Whether you believe in God or not, does not mean you are without sin.
But Madeline Dunham knows that by now.
Lefty banker in Hawaii, not much beyond the ordinary. Now her daughter with the BLAZING TAIL is a different matter.

Had you posted this when her death was first announced I wouldn’t have been surprised if moderators had jumped to delete the post. It takes a while for the obvious truth to become accepted.

Me either. I had the same question about her background, since I never knew she blazed any trails until now, either-especially considering she would have been in her fifties at the time, and in an awkward position raising a grandchild of mixed race during the seventies.

I don’t care about her politics. She was a woman, a citizen, who was not seeking the highest office in the land. I also will not blame her grandson’s views or character on her.

You will hear plenty about her when $10 million in taxpayer dollars go towards building a memorial to her in Hawaii.

Notice Michele and the kiddies did NOT go with him to see her and Obama was campaigning, not with Granny when he got the news ... It smells. He already threw her under the bus and he will do ANYTHING TO WIN. That we know for sure. Even infanticide doesn't phase him ... think about it.
