How Long Till Obama Pulls The Troops Out Of Iraq And Afghanistan?

Posted on 11/04/2008 10:02:40 PM PST by FTL

Any guesses on how long until he loses the war for us?

When he's pres, he can do whatever he wants in this regard. Elections have consequences.

We are in the process of getting ready to leave Iraq in any event. Only now 0bama can take credit for a process that was already under way.

I don’t think he’ll pull out of Afghanistan. For whatever reason, that particular war is popular with liberals, just like wars with Pakistan and Serbia seem to be.

I really don’t see coming out of Afghanistan anytime soon. Iraq? A year.

Actually I think that this is where he loses some of his disciples. Being pilloried as weak on defense, he’ll want to amp up the military effort in Afghanistan (like he told us). But the draw-down in Iraq will go far slower than he promised his pals on Daily Kos and the true believers will get restless.

It should be amusing and we should all guess what high-profile liberal will go crazy about this first. “Why are we still in Iraq! Is Obama Bush44!?!?!!?!?!”

I think it is likely Iraq will stand on its own at this point. A small blessing...

Iraq, one year. Only because of logistics.

Afghanistan, watch for a switch from combat to girl guide UN blue hat behavior.

He’ll pull out of Iraq immediately, then send a surge in to Afghanastan to “get Osama”. He’ll bring back a bag of bones, calling it Osama, and then declare the war on terror won and over. Then he’ll turn swords into plowshares (gut the military and go crazy with the welfare).

Actually, his plan and stated policy is 16 months which means that he will begin on this immediately upon taking office as that will be about how much time it takes to completely pull out of Iraq - according to his advisers anyway.

He probably won’t. Almost every U.S. president who campaigned against war went against war. He may start war/wars somewhere else, but I doubt he’ll bring them back.

Spot on. Bush does the heavy lifting, Obama gets the credit. I posted the same thing a few days ago.

StratFor has a fantastic analysis exactly on this topic already up.

In a nutshell - he can’t. Otherwise he’ll create a big disaster for himself and he’s got another election to look forward to. So, that’s his big test - he has to find a way to entice Iranians to play nice so he can withdraw. If it was easy it’d have been done already. The alternative is he withdraws anyway and the place goes to hell in a handbasket and people will see him for the incompetent he is.

So - guess we’ll see.

He is going into this situation just like I would...NO FRIGGIN CLUE. This pos hasn’t ever done anything. Who could he call? Bill for 4 years. Remember , he called him for help before. He could not pass any security evaluation due to his terrorist friends. Unless he gets a pass, which seems to be par for the course. Was this election written as a script on a thread here around the beginning of this year?

In Iraq it won't matter. In Afghanistan he's sort of on the hook to prosecute the war in order to validate his analysis that Bush was making a mistake by concentrating on Iraq. And that's too bad, because he could get a lot of good people killed through vanity if he doesn't start listening to the pros and I do NOT mean Wesley Clark.

A lot of this is going to rest on how long the MSM let him get away with blaming Bush for everything. Knowing them (and judging from the first Clinton administration) that could be years.
