Chamblis - 49.8%
Martin - 46.8%
Buckley - 3.4%
Where are you seeing >50%? I can’t find anything other than the SOS site.
The official numbers show 49.9% now. Go Saxby (and bring on the lawyers...).
Are we sure the same voters who turned out in huge numbers to make GA close at the presidential level won’t also be there for the runoff? I sure hope not as we need that seat. If Repubs can stay at 44 it isn’t too disastrous.
I am told Martin as is far left a liberal as 0bama. If GA elects him we know it is another sign the nation is just screwed as people have totally gone over to the other side.
Yeah, and he'll have 6 years to forget all about it. He should have been seriously challenged in the primaries. That might have gotten his attention. If he's sent back to the Senate, everything about last night's results will be forgotten and cast aside...
You sound like a lot of posters here in 2006. “Teach them a lesson!” blah blah blah. Well, I guess we really showed ‘em, huh? McCain wasn’t my first choice either and he would have driven me crazy had he won but I voted for him b/c I value Republican ideals. Staying home or voting for the Dem in the race doesn’t do us any good.
You feel safe gloating now b/c they didn’t get 60 seats but suppose the GA seat had been the difference? You had no way of knowing that yesterday.
I think it is ridiculous when our side picks an issue and “stands on principle”. Well, stand all you like but if all our voters sit home and pout, we will be routed even more the next time. These elections have huge consequences that effect our daily lives and future generations.

You’re right - I had no way of knowing that the DEMs wouldn’t have 60 seats, but that doesn’t change anything.
I’m not gloating, just pleased with the result. These are just people. They are no more important than you or I. That is a fact that Saxby has forgotten. You’d have to be in GA to understand.
I didn’t vote for a DEM. I voted for the LIB who represents as many of my political views as the supposed GOP leaders have. Its a trade off I admit, but I don’t have to sulk about having supported a sell-out GOP senator in my backyard.
It sounds like you’re buying into the myth that last night was a historical election in terms of turn-out. It wasn’t... McCain failed to get the turnout. We all knew that was going to be a problem. Obama DID NOT get many more votes that Bush did in ‘04. 62.4 vs 62.1.
The results last night prove to me that this election WAS WINNABLE by the GOP. Despite 22% pres. approval ratings. Despite the economy, despite everything else. Our problem was that our candidate himself carried a lot of apathy with GOP voters. Anyway, that’s another situation alltogether.

I agree 100%. The GOP need to stop with the incumbent worship. The GOP is setup to squash dissent in the primaries and time after time we have candidates run uncontested in the primaries, only to wake up as we get to the generals ticked at the candidate and wish other options were avaiable.
A candidate must get 50% plus one vote to win the election in GA. If no one gets 50+1, there's a run-off election.
Spot on. What a mess. Two thumpin's in a row for most people would be enough to realize the errors of their ways. Somehow, though, I'm not at all optimistic about the Republican Party's future because of their 40+ year history of happily being the minority party. It seems like being the minority party is the only thing "establishment country club" Republicans understand. We got one long row to hoe, that is for sure.....and not a whole lot of time to do it.....

Wrong continent.
The Dems put the +50% rules in place when they ruled the state. They did it because they ran uncontested in primaries and wanted the R’s to face run-offs in primaries. As such, the R’s would always face 2 campaigns and would be tapped out (cash/energy) during the general election.
