Some Good News From Pennsylvania: Republican Wins House Seat Held by Democrats Since 1969.
SOS Website ^ | 5 November 2008 | Pennsylvania Secretary of State

Posted on 11/05/2008 10:38:41 AM PST by Vigilanteman

Tim Kreiger, a first time candidate, eeked out a 864 vote victory in Westmoreland County, a seat which has been safely Democrat since it was created in 1969.

In the closing days of the campaign, Kreiger was denounced by his opponent as a tool of the Bush Administration and a mouthpiece for the right wing extremist group Club for Growth.

Republicans won both the State Senate and State Representative seats which were heavilly favored to flip to Democrats. While all races are not yet decideded, I beleive the Republicans will maintain a narrow majority in the Senate whereas we don't know yet if they will overturn the one seat Democrat majority in the house.

Does anyone else know?

Another bright spot is that Tom Corbett, possible future gubenatorial candidate, posted a solid re-election win for Attorney General, the only state office won by Republicans. Tom is the guy who successfully prosecuted Mike Veon and other crooked Democrat legislators and was targeted by the enemy for engaging in a partisan witch hunt because he didn't arrest any Republicans.

This is some good news. Along with a few other things like Prop 8 passing in California.

Can anyone explain how in the world Murtha managed to win? How could the people of his district reelect someone who calls them racist rednecks? I just don’t get it.

right now the republicans are holding 100 seats and the dems 99 with 4 seats still too close to call. all 4 have the dems out in front so it looks it’ll be a 103-100 dem advantage in the house. the state senate will shape up to be 30-20 republican.

I defy anyone to explain PA voting habits to me.

I lived there for 8 years and could never figure it out. A pro choice Republican senator with a pro life (supposedly) Democrat senator -- a matched pair!

Sad from PA is that Lou Barletta, Hazelton mayor...lost in his run for US Congress. Got not support from the GOP because he was the mayor that led the way to remove illegal aliens from Hazelton.

Another sign that the GOP doesnt get it.

Barletta won re-election for Hazelton mayor with over 90% of the vote...and both the GOP AND DEMS nominated him as their candidate for mayor in the primary.

But with no national GOP support, and the GOP Leadership’s pro-illegal/anti-American agenda...Barletta didnt have much of a chance

Is the Club for Growth the group that wants to eliminate the property tax?

It seems almost like a “Stockholm Syndrome”-like effect. In this case the voters in that part of PA have so bonded with Murtha, that no matter what he says about or does to them, they still submissively and faithfully follow him. Apparently, his comments about racists and rednecks were calculated in order to challenge his fawning flock (i.e. constituents) to prove him wrong and vote for Obama. And vote for Obama they did, also re-electing Murtha in the process. Pretty slick move on his part. He knew all along his faithful, ever-dependent, submissive flock would never stray.

As a Texan living in Pa I can only tell you that the majority of voters in this state are uninformed jack asses that take their clue of who to vote for off the nightly news.

Other then that they are great people.

Murtha brings defense spending home and props up what passes for an economy in Johnstown. It’s that simple.

It could also be: I know Murtha wasn’t talking about ME, but some of my neighbors could be racists!

German immigrants? Explain Germans. (I'm partly of German descent, for anyone who is offended and I could explain about generational iniquity, but not to lecture.)

All they are interested in is somebody who will rob their better-off neighbors on their behalf. Call them racists or redencks. Just make sure that you deliver. Slaves cannot be too particular and will certainly submit to abusive treatment. He was never in danger. Never.
